Not a newbie but missing something in Strategies GalCiv2 Forums

I'm not really a newbie, been playing off and on for a few years. But it still seems I'm missing something. I've started a game with the starting positions well apart from the others (specially mine). I think the difficulty is beginner, or it could be normal. Anyway. But no matter what, I cannot defeat the Yor. They always win. Even when I cheat my butt off and the first 30 or even 50 planets are maxed out at 43, I cannot get ahead of them. That did it, thank you! After I figured out that the C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Fences was hardcoded, rather than where the program actually was, it worked fine. Thank you! Fences is one of my favorite utils and I have it back! Happy camper.

The other machine had xp pro on it, and I bought fences a number of years ago (this new machine is win 7 pro). The button to download my version on my 'products owned' page said 'vintage' or 'legacy' or something like that, and the file they had me d/l was 'fencespro110_setup'. Are you saying it is not possible to install this version on this machine and I must upgrade? I was perfectly happy with the old version and don't need any new features. My old machine, where I had fences installed, crashed a while back and I had to get a new machine. Fences will not install on the new machine. It says I have to upload this certain file with this url. But the url goes to the homepage of a game store. How do I install fences on this new machine?

Hot dog! I'll take it. Thanks. Playing (theoretically) Ultimate, altho it comes up Dread Lords in places, and Twilight in others. DL in a splash screen, and TA in task manager. This seems to work. Ah, frustration drop.

Are there ship designs I can download? Maybe even a complete set that covers all the tech? I'm tired of the shipyard. When I want to upgrade a ship, unless I'm missing something, and I don't say I'm not, instead of simply removing the old and putting on the new you gotta start the design from scratch. If I merely want to upgrade the engines on, say, my colony ship, I have to redesign a whole new colony ship. It's tedious and I'm tired of it. You can say

While I'm at it, I guess I do have one or two questions that I'll ask here: Are there ships you can download? As I said above, one thing at a time, and designing ships will come later. So it'd be nice if there were a complete coterie of ships available. Even fairly generic as long as they're effective. Is there such a thing? All I see in the download section is the stores to buy the game.

Thanks everyone. I've found the code list, but the problem was the crashing. And I might get to the metaverse someday, but not soon. I definitely want to be up to speed first. So I gather is that ultimate is no different than twilight? Nothing added?

Hi all. I'm new to ultimate, having got it just today during the special. Really you could say I'm new to galciv, having played only a few games of dread lords, and that was a while back. I've found the wiki and am reading up on it, so won't have questions on most things until finished anyway. What I do have a question on is: how to cheat?
