Ah. There it is. Thanks. Still doesn't work. The Browse Directories dialog doesn't show any of the folders in the Mods directory, which is not the way I remember it working. Am I supposed to change prefs.ini to ..\Mods\Autumn Twilight manually? (BTW, does it handle embedded spaces gracefully?)

Okay, this is strange. The 2.20 option page still points to the Mods folder of the old Steam installation. I reset the option to Default and it now points to the Mods/Default folder of the 2.20 installation. Which, of course, does not have the AT folder in it. But I can't figure out how to change the mods folder specification. This suggests that the mods folder spec is saved somewhere besides the installation. I see nothing in the MyGames folder

Oh cool. I don't recall having been inside gc2types.xml before. What indexes the Flavor texts? I don't recall seeing most of them. ("Death Rock"?) Geez, the evil guys research Artificial Slave Centers so rarely, and so late in the game when they do, I think it's pointless nerfing the improvement. I mean, if they can get that far with their lousy production techs, they deserve the boost. Yor shouldn't have it, though, it'

By putting an intentional hook in the firmware that only the OS can use, and refusing to boot with an OS that doesn't grok the hook. Intel and MS have been warning us for years

One of the best Nova programs was the one that presented "the black hole war" between Stephen Hawking and Leonard Susskind. Hawking was stymied by the objection that any object that actually crosses an event horizon removes information from space-time, violating the (little known) principle of Conservation of Information. Susskind solved it one way, but Hawking didn't agree. His reply was a paper that 'solved' the dilemma by postulating that the lost information

Froggie, I know where you're coming from (especially on the OS/2 shit). I have a LOT more than 10,000 hours in development and constantly ran into people fresh out of college that 'knew' more than I ever learned the hard way. Problem is that I've never been diplomatic in the face of ignorance. My solution? When the wife left I just blew it off and retired -- with the intention of keeping on writing code. Did write a lot of code fo

I agree about the Evil weapons. IIRC the ONLY benefit to 2.20 Psionic Missile is that it's a little cheaper. I really liked the old weapons. Anyone that thinks the vanilla evil races are too strong is a pussy. Oh, a question. I see that the Korath Germ Warfare branch requires Impossible Tech . I gather that is only enabled with the Super Abilities? (Might be fun to play with germ-ridden Korath with

That's a good point. Might account for some of the ships, but many were gifted very soon after I paid Drengin to attack Drath -- IOW before they got any war profits. As for the alignment changes, I'm not against Drath as Neutral. But somehow making the Terran Good just isn't right. I didn't get an answer when I asked about why we need to keep the alignment count balanced. Anyone tried it with an unbalanced count?

The article clearly says that inflation is non-local, in that the size of galaxies does not change (at least in relation to large scale distances), while the distance between galaxies can increase so fast that they actually fly apart at speeds exceeding 'c'. Yeah, I'm still trying to get my head around that. Sounds more like the universe is, or will be, bounded by an event horizon. BTW, if that last is so, what is the distance to those galaxies? <

In techtree.xml the Civ. Ability is stated correctly: 10 But the editor doesn't show it. Xeno Medicine is identical in form and it shows correctly in the editor. Since the editor won't even display techtree.xml (at least mine won't), and munges what it can edit, then this is a worthless pursuit. I'll just ignore it.</p

Notepad++ is very good. I also use Eclipse if I have it open. The programming comment was more for Stardock's benefit. [hint, hint, Brad] Thanks for the pointers on the editors. It occurs to me that I should go look at thalantree.xml to see if the Civ. Ability is actually defined in the file...

No, I used c/s-Z to delete the nascent stalks. I left several on a few planets to see what happened and so far so good. But as if mid-2230 the 'bots have made no move to research Advanced. Next time I'll let them run and see what happens. BTW, has anyone found a way to modify Super Abilities? The frikkin' Yor drop Influence Starbases all over the place, making navigation a RPITA. Nope, never have saved in the editor, at least in 2.20. I'm used to editing the xml directly so I know how, but the editor would be so much easier. Are you saying that one can't save at all in the Tech Editor and get a usable result? That would blow. Any of the other editors f*d up? Just double-checked it again. No Civ. Ability on Xeno Bio. Is there something in the file that is unique to the CU-based 2.20 update that I can check?
