I don't have a good (or any) explanation, but I agree that with UE/TA 2.04 all the aliens went for Beams. With 2.2n that is no longer the case. (Thank the ghods of GC.) As for your other, poorly described, issue, I don't see any difference.

So if I had the same point output, but olny 3 Research tiles, I would have been limited to three techs? Can you spell "obscure rules"? Sheesh!
we're already going to be limited on what we can do because of the "only 4-techs per turn"-limitation.
This bit I don't get at all. AFAICT you're limited by the points you can produce. For example, I'm relatively late in my game, with lots of research points per turn. I switched over to the Shield branch for the heck of it (no opponents are using Beams) and completed seven (7) t
and if the enemy uses lazer wepons??? will my zero point armor be useless??
No. Defenses that aren't directly opposed to the weapon (e.g. shields to beams) apply at 1/3 strength. So a ship with 12 armor factors would defend against lasers the same as a ship with 3 shield factors. Not great but better than nothing.
Was there an update that removed the automatic basic ships updates.
Nope. It works as it always did. I'm not clear what the problem is. Can you explain in detail?
Fascinating! Thanks. I was playing around with the setup and specified Saturn. I got a Saturn with an 800% Production tile, colonized Earth and it had a 800% Research tile! Maybe Mars has both! (Years ago I generated an Earth with both of those tiles, but somehow managed not to save the game setup. Arrgh!) I haven't read the Gameplay section yet, but I'll definitely get to it. So much still to learn.
That should be interesting, though I'm more interested in customizing races than in ZYW.
So you can see the approximate location of the enemy homeworld on the mini-map with the Ownership view selected.
My best 'normal' game is a bit less than 250K. How much can you score with a ZYW?
Geez, what density are you playing? This one I've got Immense, Tight Clusters, Common Stars, Occasional planets, Common Habitable, lots of Anomalies and Asteroids, Rare weird planets, Slow tech. Are you playing Yor as Evil? Metal or flesh, it is good to be King.
Okay, I *think* this is what a ZYW is: Start with a small universe as Kzinti Korath with Super Abilities enabled. That allows you Spore Ships as a possible tech. Now instead of doing any colonization, use your money to buy labs. Research the techs required for Spore Ships. Pump out Spore ships and use them to "conquer" (i.e. destroy) all the planets in the universe. No year will have elapsed - thus
Orbital2000, can you take this to a new thread and stop posting in every GCII thread? You've asked some interesting questions that I would like to know the answers to, but this is not the right place.
Well, yeah, I think. If you look at the Templates you will see what the game considers to be the base designs. Everything beyond the base designs is produced either by the auto-designer or by you. The existence of a base design doesn't mean that it is buildable. If a design requires, e.g. Railgun II and you don't have Railgun II tech, then you can't build it. Period.
Not in this thread. Unless I missed it.
Well I missed it too. I looked and looked and couldn't find it. I was gonna ask about differentiating the SB modules, but you beat me to it. I gotta say, this "quicky" game as Terran vs. Drath and Altarian has turned out to be a lot of fun. I forgot that you have Terran as Neutral and Drath as Good so misjudged
I have made it through Siege to Achilles' Heel in the Dread Lords campaign. I have only played as the Terran Alliance so far, and the arbitrary requirements for the missile and railgun ships have me confused. I am very good at early game colonization, but actually fighting has me somewhat stumped, because the Battle Axe and later Dreadnaught seem to be the only things that really work, ideally upgraded. If I am lucky to get some, the Lu
Yep. No denying that. Raises the question though, if there's infinities in math, do they exist? Bigger question. Is math real or merely a construct we invented? Or, is it something we stumbled upon because math is how the universe works? Big question. Tricky to answer.
Plato or Aristotle? ;) I think the answer was made pretty clear when it was shown that consistent yet contradictor
Maiden, I'd like to see a guide to how the game arrives at a score. I've played games where I simply kicked alien ass all over the galaxy - and scored 75,000. Tried winning quickly, tried various victories: no appreciable difference. I usually play Immense, high difficulty, at least 5 races. Never Metaverse.
i play for years and I dont control not even 1 % of the galaxy.. is that related to metaverse?? is there a way I could control some part of the galaxy??
Nothing to do with metaverse. How many planets
... there's many infinites you deal with on a daily basis. Just count from one to two. There's actually an infinite amount of numbers between those numbers. Infinity is a real thing and to make things even more complicated infinities come in different sizes.
In that sense infinity is a mathematical concept. There is no real thing or set of things that is demonstrably infinite. Yes, I've read Rudy Rucker, too.
What did you change in the starbases from the version I'm playing? (I don't have any military SBs.) Boy! These things can be really strong with the investment of enough constructors! BTW, I made an earlier comment about the 'nerfed' Mass Driver branch. Now I kinda like how that weapons branches are differentiated.
demands a lot from the computers..
Fortunately, my computers are not as old as I am. Actually, no computers are as old as I am.
This is even weirder. As soon as I changed prefs.ini to the AT folder, I can suddenly see all the mods in the Mods folder. This thing is whacked! I'm starting a new game as Terran. Only two opponents in an Immense galaxy (Drath, Altarian), so it should be quick.
I hope that is recorded with SD as a BUG... Thanks.
So where is Vista in the stats? Lots of people out here still use it.
