I'm fairly far into a game and need to build up some asteroid mining bases near recently-captured planets fairly quickly. If I design a custom mining ship with more than one mining module on it, will it increase the rate at which asteroid mines are built/upgraded?

Hi, I've been using just the bare default shipstyles so far with functional modules just pegged on. I attempted to design one or two custom ships on my own for a unique look, but quickly found the interface limiting/frustrating. The shipyard seemed only to allow me to put parts onto other parts, and rotate them..... it wouldn't allow me to choose where or how I wanted them to connect. Is the following possible? 1. Moving (not rot
My question was this. Do you conquer planets from the AI that have little or no improvements when you have the tech for said improvements? Or do you conquer planets from the AI when you do not have the techs for said improvements, and then do not notice any improvements on the planets? Because in TA when you take over a planet and don't have the tech for improvements that have been built there, those improv
For folks who only occasionally or rarely have need of an compression/decompression program and are particular about what gets installed on their computer, I heartily recommend the portabilized version of Z-Zip, which is available either alone or can be rolled into a larger suite of tools from PortableApps.com. All programs distr
Thanks for all the useful info, tips. Some more questions: 9. If I invade or influence-flip a planet and have a spy on it, do I regain the spy? If a 3rd opponent has a spy on there, do they lose their spy? 10. If I set a spy to sabotage the food production, will the population die off down to the level that the planet can support? If that spy gets nullified or removed, will the population immediately replenish, or have to b
Can I just tax the tails off my population and crowd them together with no good TV shows, with no consequences? Works in America.
Wrong, sir! "Lost" on ABC's netowrk is engaging, suspenseful and keeps me looking forward to filing my 1040 forms each year. I'm serious. What consequences will GCII enforce on me if I let my approval rating tank? If it's only a decline in population gr
Thanks for the quick and detailed reply! 3. What I don't understand about "Advanced" espionage level is that at "High", I already have a pretty detailed civ report on my opponent, can look at their planet tiles, improvements, shipbuilding activities. What additional intel/benefits do I gain by spying on them up to an "Advanced" level? If it's not much, my strategy might more commonly be to only spy on each opponent up to the "High" level, then move on
Hi, I'm trying to understand espionage better. In a previous game, I was losing ground sandwiched between both the Korath and the Drengin. I had a fledgling Terran empire of about 10-12 planets when The (@#?!%*) Jagged Knife hit everyone and took 3 of them, including my just-completed Manufacturing Capital and the Tech Capitol I was grooming. I hadn't yet researched much military tech and the Drengin declared war on me. With things rapidly deteriorating, I decide
Thanks for your work getting Endless Universe supported on Impulse, Stardock folks. :)
I feel the need to um...resettle Minors to one of my red extreme planets first before I take over their homeworld. What can I say, I'm a nice guy. That and I avoid the diplomatic penalty for wiping them out.
I'm guessing that resettle = Give them crappy planet, let them colonize it, then invade their homeworld?
Will customers be locked out of future support for this product due to region restrictions? I'm a customer in the US who recently bought GalCiv2, but not yet the expansions. There's currently a sale going on for Endless Universe, but it wouldn't be such a great deal if I purchase it and later find out that updates will only be for region-specific customers.... folks in Europe, where the game was marketed to.
Other requests, again these are for GalCiv III if/when it ever happens. 5. Cloaking, Cloaking Detection. It'd be interesting to see a tech tree on Cloaking research, with 2 branches: cloaking/detection. Yes, I know it's very Star Trek-y, but just like the first Star Trek episode to feature a cloaked ship, it would introduce the space equivalent of submarine warfare. I think the ST universe could give us some useful guidelines as well, such as the
This seems to be a regular misperception. I've seen several (admittedly console-centric) gaming blogs refer to it as a new expansion to the series. I realize that, in certain circles, it's probably hard to get coverage for niche PC-only titles at all. Coverage that is factually incorrect probably complicates things further. I suspect that part of the problem is that many gaming blogs/magazines get much of their factual information from the same very fe
For a sequel, the following reqests. These aren't meant to suggest that I'm in any way unhappy with GalCiv2. The game is excellent. 1. I'd like to see "Range" be a more meaningful attribute of ship design. Currently, range seems to translate to: This is how far your ship can go. You can go up to the limit, at which point some magical force will prevent you from going further.... engine troubles, crew mutinying because you wandered into
Thanks for the suggestions! :) I'll have to wait until I get home, but I'm running the game on a compaq laptop with not-particularly high specs (2.4ghz P4, integrated graphics and 512MB RAM). I'm impressed that it runs at all, let alone runs fairly well. Re: re-setting your race's color, is it possible to do this from within the game I'm already playing, or will I have to wait until the next game?
I'm playing my way through my first game (GalCiv2-DL, no expansions) and I find it gets difficult to tell where I'm sending all my ships, since the auto-pilot lines are faint and about the same color as the gamefield's grid. Making use of Rally Points has eased this a bit, but I was wondering if there were an interface tweak that would permit me to increase the brightness of the auto-pilot lines, or change them to a different, conspicuous color. This may only affe
