Sorry if the first post is screwed up. I did copy-paste from MS Word for spell check. It shows up fine in FireFox though. I think that no matter what, the AI should be forced to not research terror stars untill they have finished everything else on their tech tree. This would be one way to un-gimp them. I think it would also be good to have them spend at least a third of what they spend on weapons on defense. This would make it so their ships would have even attack/defe

I agree that the influence part of it seems a little strange. However, I don't think that letting your ally take over the map is any fun, so I don't really think it's overpowered. Both are advantages for the player, so if you don't like them, you could just not use them.

I would say Dominion of Korx is pretty much worst overall because they can't get their economy off the ground. Thalan have pretty good ships, not sure if they're the best Korath effetively have the best soldiering since they don't even need soldiers to conquer planets. Not sure about econ, but the Humans seem pretty good. I would say Iconians or Altarians for research Krinn for Influence Humans for Dipplomacy Yor for facto

You can have someone start on a team with you. When you start a game a select the AI you can edit their relationship with you. They start at "unknown" by default, but you can change it to "team." This way they can't break an alliance with you.

I've been playing this game for so long I feel like I should know by now, but I'll still ask. When you explore an anomaly and get one of the bonuses to economics, soldiering, etc. does it give a permanent bonus to your civilization? I thought it did but it seems like if this is the case my soldiering ability would be a lot better than it usually shows up as. Are the bonuses cumulative? Thanks

I'm playing on 1.95 also, and the Altarians still outright refuse to build a military. I can't figure out why either.

I thought the Arceans always got at least a 146 million percent bonus to persistent trade... But seriously, I didn't know there was a persistent trade stat either, although the value for it is obviously whacked in that game.

Yeah I didn't really think the races were ever balanced to begin with, but it does depend a lot on play style. But the Krynn influence thing is close to what I was talking about. A really good influence race is gimped with the near-useless super spy ability. Customizing helps make them much more powerful.

I'm curious what everyone thinks of the ability to use anyone's tech tree when creating a custome race. It seems that if the original races are balanced, some races must have better tech trees than others. For example, some races have really terrible super abilities (like super spy), and I was wondering if anyone thinks this is offset by their starting bonuses or super abilities. If so, it seems like you could make a custom race that could mop the floor with everyone else by using the best tech

Reply to Good VS Evil in Game Talk

The reason the MCC was brought to attention by numbnuts is because in TOA each race has a different tech tree, so there was no default value to receive the bonus (MCC reverted to a default stat, which was econ, to give a 100% bonus to, if I'm not mistaken). This made the MCC completely useless, so it went from an exploit to nurfing evil. So not patching the game wont help :)

Well I played ToA a little bit but am just getting used to it. I'll try keeping building costs down and letting population get higher, thanks for your help!

Hi everyone, While playing the first mission of teh ToA campaign I always seem to get badly into debt. I'm guessing it's because there's no one to trade with and without the extra income I just can't seem to make my economy work. I even tried going down to normal dificulty but still run into problems. Does anyone have a strategy for this?

Glad it helped!
Moving the launch point on a planet was mentioned earlier in this thread. Will you explain how to do this?
Well if you click on a planet you will see a little box in the top of the box that shows the planet's shipyard(where you can see all the ships orbiting a planet), if you mouse over it it says "change launch location" or something like that, just click on this and you can choose which direction to launch ships.

Playing as the Yor helps a lot with keeping your planets from being flipped. But out-right turning it off would, I think, greatly unbalance the game.
So say I trade Ultra Spices to the Torian for 500 bc. Do they receive the empire-wide bonus to morale in perpetuiy or for a limited time? If it's limited, how long do they get it? If it's in perpetuity do I get 500 bc a turn or just the initial 500 from the trade? I'm assuming also that I still retain the bonus myself after the trade since I still have the item - is that true?
From what I understand, you retain the bonus, they get it forever, and they only will have t
The espionage boost for the Iconians is just Stardock's business model for trying to make the Iconians as crappy as possible. One of the races has to suck, why not the Iconians? Its all laid out in the company's financial documents for the investor relations packet. I think one of the designers had an Iconian ex-girlfriend and he isjust pissed off at the whole race now.As for the Drath, they took away the espionage because they are 12 feet tall. I know just last week I saw a 12 foot t
