Imagine an enemy ship is any distance away at all.. say, 2 light seconds. Say it's moving at a few kilometers a second relative to you, engaging in hard lateral thrust in a random fashion - in other words, dodging. To hit this ship with a laser you have to lead this ship by 2 seconds - and you can not see where it has dodged until two seconds after it HAS dodged. Hitting the ship at all would be a matter of PEPPERING the likely spaces for the ship to be at the time the l

And the more crystals you have locked up and the closer to victory you are, the more the other civs hate you. It can turn into a brutal slog of a war.

Research/Mil/Soc/Econ: +88%/+50%/+50%/+51% They do have a lot of worlds, and many with no infrastructure but full 8 billion pop. The profit on one of those worlds, a class 8 for example, is like 70 bc/week, and it providing 14 research points, too. Ow.

Just two days ago, I started a game as the Krynn in gigantic, tough galaxy - and moved up a difficulty notch to 'painful', so I thought perhaps I was simply experiencing the AI bonuses when certain races began rocketing up in tech far faster then I ever could. In fact, I managed to snag economic and research treaties that vastly improved my economy from the Torians. I was slow in building up my military, but I began to realize something was wrong when they had a technology rating of 800+ when

.. Listen, Slurple, give up. I know such a small amount about computer programming that it's pathetic, but even I know that it would require changing a *large* percentage of the code of the game to make it doable, and adding in much more. Basically, it would require almost as much work as went into making the Twilight expansion pack. It's not something some hack could do in his basement over the course of a couple weeks without access to the code. .. the only analogy I c

I have noticed it. It's a big inconvenience. O well, at least I love the trade complex and two unique industry and research structures of the iconians.

In my last few games, since I downloaded the 1.92 alpha patch, I've found the Korath behaving very dumbly. Has anybody else noticed? They've only colonized the two worlds in their home system, throughout the whole game. My settings for AI are always random opponents, Tough AI, force max cpu.
Lheim: are you running Windows 2000 or earlier? Thanks for the post
Ahh.. yes. 2000 Professional. By the way; I've been reminded today of how much Norton irks me. Anybody suggest a good antivirus/connection monitor alternative?
Do you have the BITS service enabled?Do you have the .net framework installed?Do you have a firewall that might be blocking access?
I have just enabled BITS, I have MS .net framework 2.0 service pack 1 installed, and I've tried turning off as much as Norton as it'll let me (@*$# hand-holding program.. who doesn't provide options such as 'turn this program off!'). I'm just trying to install and check out Impulse in preparation for Galciv 1.95 - and I can't even log in. Impulse is telling me it can't connect to the server, and Impulse Dock crashes on loading. The relevant sections of the errorlogs are..: impulse-errorlog.txt -- [6/18/2008 5:06:52 AM] ---------------------------------------------------- Context: Retrieve Acount: Message: Failed to retrieve account information. It's a little dissatisfying for me too. The last couple of games I've managed to buy off militarily dead empires only through the offering of my complete tech tree ( ), all my money ( :SURPRISED: ), and lots of space ships (which presently become pirates :SNIFF!: ). .. nothing else seems to do it, unless an empire only has a super small number of worlds left. It's a nuisance to have to clear up my own super ships after buying a victory like that.. and it'd be tedious to invade al

While it may not be handy to the foreign advisor screen, I believe the 'stats' page in the civ manager gives a lot of that information.

The last time I saw this amount of negativity on a forum, it was World of Warcraft.. but then I don't browse forums that much ;). Are the bugs game-breaking? Nah. Did Stardock have a bit of 'crunch time' that slowed things down a bit? Sure. Do I blame them? Nah. Is seven weeks too long to wait for a patch to address a tech-cost scaling issue? Not terribly, compared to -some- game companies. Am I waiting on baited breath for the patch? Sure, why not. So some people're a little t

1) Frogboy has just posted that the tech cost increase will be addressed in a patch next week. Remaining issues, a bit later. 2) Turn your difficulty up a bit, use max cpu, maybe get some evil neighbours. In fact, the torians are planet-invading bad-arses in most of my games lately.. dunno what it is. I s'pose their superior population levels give them enormous confidence. 3) This isn't a game-breaking issue. I actual prefer the new screen - as abstract as it is - to the marchi

.. a quick report; the only tech for extreme colonization I can get anything for in the trade screen is aquatic/advanced aquatic. I do believe that they're not suppose to be worth anything, which means Aquatic ought to be fixed. Cheerio.

For the record, I had this crash too on alt-tabbing - until I switched the game out of fullscreen mode. Now I can browse and play all I want, very stably. Try it, till the patch comes out.

I've been playing a huge galaxy game at tough difficulty with the Thalans lately and I find their power is absolutely mind-boggling if used intelligently. I started out by choosing abilities which nullified their population growth disadvantage, added to their economy, and industrialists government .. if I'm remembering correctly, +10 pop growth, +53 soc/mil, +10 econ, in total. I did not, for a long time, have to at all build manufacturing matrixes, and when I did start, for the

I'm not exactly sure where all this 'cheating' accusation stuff is coming from. The only thing I can suggest is that either the original poster has failed to communicate properly.. or more likely, several people in this thread have failed to read thoroughly. Allow me to re-state the original poster's case. The minimap contains the information on the location of stars and planets (if you have stellar cartography), however, it is a small element on the screen, zooming is awkward
