I never installed a mod to GalCiv 2 before. How do I install this mod? I looked but couldn't find any directions in the zip file. Sorry if this has been asked before.
The annoying part about it is the way most AARs (factual ones, too, it seems) just drop off completely. It seems the least the author could do would be to post an epilogue about how the game turned out, or where the story would have gone if it was pure fiction. Way of the world, I suppose.
That's why I rarely get involved with an AAR. I rather write little snapshots of life in a GalCiv universe, like m
I think the fiction writing is slowing down just because the newness is off the game. This invariably happens with every title. Perhaps once we get the new update, things will pick up a bit when some new players get in the game? I've been meaning to write another piece of short fic. Just haven't found the time.
I finally jumped into this game last week and am greatly enjoying it! Thanks for all the feedback! DW definitely has the potential to be the go-to game for sci-fi fanatics. I can't wait to see what's in the expansion pack!
Bit off-topic, but when talking about "saving cinematic sci-fi", i am really looking forward to Michael J. Straczynski´s remake of the Forbidden Planet. If someone is capable of doing this, i believe there is no better person than the Babylon 5 creator.
I'll pass. I am tired of remakes. We don't need remakes of classic films that already work. The science fiction community has an overflowing library of books just waiting to b

I was a bit disappointed when I found out that this is going to be a straight to DVD movie, but I am grateful for the effort. Hopefully, this movie will sell well and act as a piece of sales literature for a big studio production. God knows if Transformers can get its own franchise, 40K deserves one of its own!
Very ironic that you mention ewoks when starwars is all of those things that you mentioned, as is the latest star trek movie (minus the politics).
I will give credit to the original Star Wars (episode 4) as being they type of science fiction that I like. SW does have more than a little fantasy to it, but the original movie nailed it (particularly Han Solo). As far as I am concerned, every SW movie since the first
I don't mean to be so down on Avatar but what is galling me is that now that we have the technology to make our sci-fi dreams come true, we are getting one movie after another that squanders the opportunity. There are so many novels out there that have great plots plus amble opportunity to utilize CGI to its fullest (The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, any of the Honor Harrington novels, The Lost Fleet, Hammer's Slammers, any of Ian Banks' stories...on and on and on), but Hollywood is instead
Quoting CrusaderScott, reply 4 ... the Thundercats saving Ferngully. While I don't agree with this, I nearly spat my water at my computer screen when I read it. Easily the best description of 'Avatar' I've read yet.
I can't take credit for that; Hitler said it first . [e digicons]
It looks silly to be honest.
That's pretty much my opinion too. When I heard Cameron saying he was coming back to save cinematic sci-fi, I was excited because sci-fi certainly needs to be saved when it comes to the movies. I had visions of original ideas or even movies based on some classic novels...instead I get the Thundercats saving Ferngully. [e digicons]>:([/e] My expectations are quite low
What's this C64 stuff?!? [e digicons]:(O[/e] Atari 800 all the way! Heck, planet Irata is even named after Atari! [e digicons]:inlove:[/e] Great find! Look out Wampus, here I come! [e digicons]:banhammer:[/e]
Chief Administrator Haren Jart stared out the octagonal window that occupied nearly the entire back wall of his office. As he gazed into the inky blackness, one punctuated by countless sparkling diamonds of star systems near and far, Jart allowed his mind to wander. He knew with certitude t
I was purusing Deviant Art ( a site that is quickly becoming one of my favorite haunts) and found this cool GalCiv2 custom desktop theme from a few years back: It seems to be a modification of the Sins of a Solar Empire theme from Stardock's MyColors. I have to admit, the guy who did it did a very nice job!
Thanks! I've got a better idea of how they work now. Since my first post, I built two additional influence bases and maxed them out with all the influence/diplo tech I have at the moment. It seems to have worked as I created friendly culture bubbles around my bases now. [e digicons]:D[/e] Thanks again!
Ahh. Got it, thanks! (I'd purchased GalCiv 2: UE last December, but never really got into it for some reason. I dusted it off the other day and now I can't stop playing it! [e digicons]:smitten:[/e] ).
Hey All, How do you stop a planet from rebelling? I recently colonized an aquatic world in a region of space dominated by the Dregin. I thought I wouldn't have a problem because I have an influence starbase in the area with an embassy and an franchise center. Even though my approval rating is at 100%, the planet still wants to rebel. How can I stop this? Thanks!
At last, a television show that gets me excited. Check out this vid for Slingers: Slingers It hasn't been picked up yet but I bet it will soon! It has a great "Cowboy Bebop" style to it and is refreshingly original (well...except for the CB vibe, but hey, if TV wants to rip that show off, more power to 'em!). Here's hoping that the series is as good as this demo reel suggests! [e digicons]B)[/e] <!
No multiplayer in X3TC, though you would never know it. [e digicons]^_^[/e]
Chess, of course. [e digicons]^_^[/e] But I've suddenly become addicted to X3: Terran Conflict. I'm pretty happy with myself since capturing my first craft, a Hermes freighter (left). Now I just need to save enough money to move on up from my starter El
Sword of the Stars vanilla had a bunch of frustrating issues. But with three expansions under its belt (the most recent is Argos Naval Yard), the game is definitely worth playing ( review ). Personally, I am constantly cycling between GalCiv II, Sins and SotS. Each has something to make it stand out from the others. Now, if only someone could figure out a way to merge all three together.... [e digicons]:
I don't think there is anything more iconic in the world of sci-fi than the fleet action. Ironically, when you stop to think about it, there are remarkably few fleet actions on the silver screen. Mind you, I am not talking about those fleeting scenes (pun intended) where you have a few ships shooting at each other for a few minutes, but a well-developed battle that is a focal point for a movie. Using that criteria, I can only come up with the following: <
I don't really consider Lost sci-fi. I think the show may better qualify for the "New Wave" label of "speculative fiction".
Don't forget Fred Saberhagen's Beserker series! Great stories about man's unending fight against ancient killing machines. Try Berserkers: The Beginning for a great collection of classic short stories set in the Berserker's universe.
