I don't even think Hollywood knows what sci-fi is anymore. Take a look at Cameron's forthcoming $200 million dollar extravaganza, Avatar. Cameron describes it as a sci-fi epic...that takes place on a "jungle world". Jungle world? Since when are sci-fi epics based on jungle worlds? Here's my point: when most sci-fi people think of sci-fi epics, they think of the type of content we so love in games such as GalCiv, Sins, EvE, etc. In other words,

X3 has much more in common with EvE than it does with Sins. And personally, I think EvE is a far better game. I tried and tried to get into a game of X3, but I just don't find it all that interesting compared to EvE.
I've always wondered about that. I thought that my ships were getting some sort of HP bonus from a nearby starbase or something. [e digicons][/e]
Thanks! Any GalCiv player will enjoy Sins. They are birds of a feather with the only real distinction being that GalCiv is turn-based while Sins is RTS.
Great AAR! I have to get around to doing one of these as soon as I finish my Sins AAR . [e digicons]^_^[/e]
Is there something wrong with the I-mod website? Whenever I try to learn more about this interesting idea, I get a network time-out. [e digicons]XO[/e]
Merry Christmas to you and everyone here as well!
I encountered the same problem and discovered the same solution. If it isn't already stickied, it should be.
I've been playing the GAlCiv series for years but have never played through a campaign. The story never mattered that much to me. I made my own as I played in the sandbox. I'd do TA in the sandbox and dabble in the story later.
Same here. I never got the point of story-driven games. The fun of playing a game is making your own story! [e digicons]:cylon:[/e]
I'm in the same boat. From what I understand, if you want to follow the story-drive campaign, start with Dreadlords and work your way forward with Da and then TA. However, if you don't care about the story-driven campaign (i.e., you just want to play a sandbox game), then I would recommend just playing TA as that has all the chrome in one package. I think this is how it works.
Thanks for all the advice, guys! I'm looking forward to writing my first AAR! Stardock are currently working on Elemental - War of Magic, scheduled to come out early 2010, and I guess GCIII will follow that (ie 2012ish) I'm sort of glad to hear that. I was just positive that as soon as I downloaded the GalCiv 2 bundle, I would read an announcement that GalCiv3 is slated for January 2009.
I tried galciv1 and was not fond of it, I bought galciv2 if your computer is not 10 years old I would say go for galciv2
I'm glad to hear you say that. I tried GalCiv 1 and wasn't that impressed with it either. Not that there was anything wrong, just that it seemed more like a board game than a computer game. I just received the GalCiv2 bundle pack for Christmas (early [e dig
