Thanks for the spy explanation, LTJim. I'm still on DA v 1.80g.100, but Stardock Central does not show any new versions of DA available (just "---------"), (nor for any other component of GC2). Even if I turn on Show Beta Releases there is still nothing. Any ideas?

That is, under no number of years can you hit Medium while only having 1 passive spy placed.
Just to be clear, what do you mean by "passive" spy? I thought a spy was either placed on an enemy building or he was just idling, unused in your spy pool?
It makes some sense, though, that your spies were mistaken for loyal members of the destroyed race and were killed during battle or imprisoned/"disappeared" after surrender.
Yesterday, I just got 3 techs researched in one turn in DA. It was later in a game and I'd gone back to research an "easy" tech that hadn't been researched before. I guess my civ had plenty of research, enough to develop the 3 techs in a row. At the time I had 5 planets colonized.
I like your idea, DJTool (post #12). Using a sort of "spy rush" early in the game to cripple a nearby neighbor might help conquer them. Next game, I'll have to try that, too.
I think new players often feel they need to fill the build queues right away on every world they get a hold of. That can play hell on your economy.
You're right about that! I'm a beginner and I have been going full bore with research and always have something being built on every planet and in every starport. As you say, this loses a lot of money and eventually I have to scale my resource spending way down to avoid going broke. (I don't know what happens if you actually do
I'm just a beginner, but in my current DA game I'm playing as the Thalans on a small map with 5 opponents (down to 4, now :-) ). The star/planet occurrence rate was set random and ended up pretty sparse. The Thalans don't get a 2nd planet in their own solar system and I was boxed in on all sides by the other civs. My colony ship wandered around, but there were no nearby habitable planets! Very frustrating. I ended up pumping out a few colony ships from the home planet (with lots of fa
Interesting. I was making all "good" choices in the ethical dilemmas this game, so maybe, as you say, the robot changed because of that and it was just a coincidence that I noticed the other glitch at the same time. Thanks.
Thanks for the reply. That's good news about the influence going back to normal after awhile. Any idea why the robotic newscaster would've changed? That is mainly just weird. :-)
I just bought GCII Gold Edition two days ago. It's great! I loaded up a saved game yesterday, though, and something odd happened. Compared to when I'd saved the game, my borders had noticably shrunk, as if I'd lost a lot of influence. Also, the science advisor/newscaster had changed from a blue, male robot to a brown, female robot. Everything else appeared to be OK! (I could continue the game, but with less influence.) Has anyone seen this behavior before or know how it mi
