How am I supposed to play this race?

I also have the x3100 and was getting many random crashes in DA with the 14.31.1 driver. The SOFTWAREVP command did not work for me when using the 14.31.1 (fonts flashed rapidly). After updating to 14.32 the crashes have stopped (note: this driver was pulled because it gave users a lot of problems, but its mostly bug-free for me). however, i am still getting a lot of random crashes in TA. No error messages or anything, just crashes to my desktop. You can find a link to 14.32 h

I didn't pick the "creative" perk when I started my game. Does that mean I don't have it, or is every race inherently creative to some extent? No message said I received these techs due to my creativity. Also, there is no reason to suspect they are Arcean techs. I dont think this is due to the creativity 'boost' because I received about a 12 instantly. That seems like way too many.

While playing Krynn, I encountered the Arcean empire. When the initial "you met" screen popped up, I decided to "speak to" the arceans immediately. I wanted to trade technologies with them, however, strangely none showed up for trade on their side. After closing the diplomatic trade window, I received notification after notification about NEW techs I just learned. Must of been about a dozen new techs. I tried playing this mod with both the Borg and the starship enterprise races. Neither of them had templates for basic ships such as Colony and Constructor. When I tried to use the shipyard to make the templates, the components were missing. Yes, I deleted my "/documents/mygames/g2darkavatar" directory before installing the game. Did I misinterpret the install instructions? What did I do wrong?

Is there a menu somewhere that shows an overview of what techs are left to research before certain ship designs are made available?

I have the x3100, and TA runs great. However, im getting 17 fps on the search screen for some reason. Otherwise, frame rate is usually 30+, unless there is a massive amount of stuff on the screen. Even then, usually doesnt go below 20fps.
