And it may lead to strange effects, as some races colonize like crazy, own half the universe, but not a single warship. Eventually someone declares war on them and they surrender.

I think I read somewhere on the forums that some techs (esp. "aggresive" ones) have a stronger influence on the tech inflation (or probably when it will happen). While I somewhat understand what made them implement it, I do however think that it doesn't make a lot of sense the way it is implemented.

Hm, are you sure that reserving a low-cost tech will mostly prevent tech cost-inflation? Not sure if that fits with my experience on the issue. What I found was, that there are some techs that are best researched early, like Planetary Invasion, and at least one weapon tech. This way I have those important thechs which would otherwise become extremely expensive. However, researching to far into this tech trees will rise the costs for other techs pretty fast

This topic already came up a couple of times I think. As I understand it, there are actually 2 versions of the precursor ranger you can find. One is simply a mid-level dreadnought similar to what you could build at this tech-level, i.e. not all that powerful. That would be the "standard" random event. And then there's the mega-event version, what is what you got. This one is extremely powerful, similar to the ships you get late in the ToA

Whenever it happened to me (not very often) it was just a ship that was somehow "stuck". So all you have to do is find the ship (most of the time it was on screen) and move it and the turn button should be back and working. Also try simply hitting the "Find"-button as suggested to find the ship.

I think some more experienced players complained about research being too fast. Furthermore, with weapon techs that expensive you actually have a reason to keep your ships for some time withoutconstantly upgrading them. Still it can be annoying sometimes. As some kind of workaround I usually try to research some expensive techs early on (like thechs that lead to weapons and planetary invasion).

I had the same problem (endless universe german), but only noticed it in the DA campaign, as I don't play drengin in sandbox mode. It's indeed somewhat strange. Shouldn't it be possible to find out what the tech should be by using Galactopeadia? Hm, going to try that later.

I think what you describe is called tech inflation and is indeed there. It can get pretty strong on some techs. Say for example that at the begining you could research "planetary invasion" in e.g. 20 turns. If you now first research a couple of other techs (especially weapons I think, but not sure here) the costs start to increase after a while. So it can happen that even if you have more research points now, you take longer to research "planetary invasion", say 40 turns.

So I just finished the last ToA mission, wasn't that difficult. I didn't really buy the game for the campaign ;) , but overall I enjoyed it, it had some quite unusual missions. However, I don't understand the last mission. Just how were you supposed to do this mission? In the briefing you are told that Tandis shared the Terrorstar-techs with you. Yet you still have to research them, wich would take hundreds of turns. Ok, now you can take creativi

Hello! Did anyone ever try to put custom music into Galciv2? I guess I could just exchange the files in the music folder, but is there a more elegant way of simply adding music instead of exchanging it?

My 2 cents on the matter (but I'm no expert in this game ;) ) For increased growth I like building Recruiting Centers, as they are available early on (probably not in all tech-trees). Imho morale buildings are a must especially on more crowded worlds mid-game as they allow you to raise the taxes without getting too low approval rates. Later on you probably also get some techs and galactic achievements that allow for some empire-wide bonus to morals. As far as I know, however,

Usually I decide for one type of weapon by looking at the techs the AI is using. There isn't much sense in researching missiles if everyone else is using them, as they will develop missile defense pretty soon. The other factor is kinda stupid, it's the aesthetics :D For some reasons, I don't like the looks of missiles, I prefer beam weapons or mass drivers, though I'm probably the only one to do it like that... @Mac2411: I get this a lot

I agree that these are severely unbalancing. In one of my games the drengin found one and as it was still pretty early in the game there was no real possibility to beat it. I guess you could try to buy it, if you have the money, diplomacy skills and are on somewhat friendly terms with them. Otherwise reloading is probably the best solution if it happens early... While a mega-event should be challenging it shouldn't be game-breaking.

As I started the campaign from within TA, I guess it's using the TA tech-tree. Still I'm wondering, because afaik the Drengin tech-tree does not have this tech two times, but I may be mistaken.

No, it's not working, unfortunately. But you can use Google to search the forum: just add "site:forums.galciv2.com" to your search request in Google.

After I bought GalCiv 2 EU some weeks ago, I started playing the campaigns. DA coming before TA, I started with the DA campaign, but within TA. At some point in the later missions I encountered a strange problem. The "Ultimate diabolical research" tech seems to be in the tech tree 2 time. Once after completing "imaginative research", the second time it's there without prerequisits. The first one just gives you acces to the next lab, the second one howev

As far as I can tell there are two types of rangers one can find. The easy ones with about 30 mass driver attack and armor. In one game (TA 2.02) I got 5 of them. And the dangerous ones with very high attack in all three types. If an enemy gets them early this can be devastating. Fortunately in my last game the Arceans got one when my fleets were allready strong enough to deal with it. Alternatively I could have bought it I guess...

I just played a game on a "large" map, average difficulty, and it seemed to happen here as well. I invaded some Torian worlds that have been Torian for several years and have never been invaded before as far as I can tell. Many of them showed only very few developed zones when I surveyed the planet before invasion (int rating maxed out). When the Torians surrendered to the Thalans some months later they started improving their newly acquired planets.
Rather, I would ask this question: Is it possible to generate two warp fields with one ship to any benefit whatsoever?
The principle of the engines in this game is, iirc, to bend the space around them, bringing two points closer together. Therefore you could argue that two engines would allow a ship to bend the space further than a singel engine would allow them to. It would be simply a question of the amount of energy available to d

Just found this old topic. I noticed this same problem in almost every game in TA 2.02 I've played. One of the AIs, strangely often the one with the most research/influence/population just seems to totaly neglect weapons in the first year or so. Then, all of a sudden their military rating explodes. Often this race (so far mostly Altarians and Thalans) have advanced very far into the planetary invasion tree and seem to try and wage their wars simply by sending t

Having bought Endless Universe only recently after playing DL over a year ago, I feel a bit sad at the state of the forum. Especially as there seem to be many changes in TA (2.x). Some more activity and answers to posts would indeed be good. Especially as the search function doesn't seem to work for me. ;)

Guess you've dealt with it by now ;) Anyway, I was in a similar situation recently. Only thing is, the Drengin didn't find one oft those "Lucky" rangers that have something like 30-40 attack, but instead a truely horrific machine of war with attack somewhat above 100 and similar defense, too. Could have killed a dread-lords fleet... As it was still early mid-game, they started wiping out every military unit of their enemies (including mine) I have absol
