Again, I'm the opposite of a techie, but to me that Nvidia 5200 looks a little weak for this kind of a game.

I'm no techie, but I notice that in the posts I've read here about crashes and freezes I haven't seen any mention of starting up with a so-called "clean boot." When I first started playing Oblivion, before I got a new Nvidia card, I had crashes. I was told to start up with a clean boot and it worked fine...no more crashes. I'm wondering if that would be a solution worth trying for all whose who aren't playing GC games on the internet, because starting with a clean boot means you are not on t

Just to clarify what you all mean in your posts about the relative strengths of offense and defense you build into your ships, can you comment on this example from an actual situation I had in a game. Dark Avatar. Relatively early in a game, you find that your techs allow you to build either of these fighters as your prime warship for approximately equal const and time to build: A 0-15-0 ship with harpoons and no defense. A 0-9-0 offense and 4-4-4 defense ship with harpoons and defen

In an earlier DA game I simply landed a freighter on a distant alien colony by occupying the same space. But in this game, when my freighter got to a distant alien colony the game refused to let me move the frighter onto the colony space. Thinking the problem might be that the alien had to have the trade tech, I opened the relations screen and sold him the trade tech for whatever he would pay, so I know we both have that tech. Now what else do I have to do to be able to land on his colony plan

In another thread, there were some good replies to explain how Planetary Defense and Omega defense management work. One further question if I may, when you build these, do you have to click on a tile thus using up one of your buildable tiles and losing the production of a factory or research center on that tile? If you have a Class 7 planet would you have to give up two of the seven buildable tiles if you wanted to have the two defense systems? Thanks for your replies.

It is nice to have a ship movement command "Go to Colony" which I don't see in DA. Sure, you can set up a rally point on each colony and do it that way, but that's considerable extra key strokes. An advantage of this command is that the ships go into orbit and thus if they are warships help defend the colony while they are waiting to be used elsewhere, or if they are not warships they are more safe from casual attacks by roving enemy warships.

Some very basic questions in this area I still have after reading avery page of the manual as updated on line. If I missed something, I apologize. 1. Economic and Research Treaties. On the Relations-Speak to screen, both the alien and I showed economic treaty as available. I proposed making the treaty by bringing down Economic Treaty on both sides, the same as trading one tech for another, got the green light and made the deal. Later, when I looked at the Trade screen, I was chagrin

What is Twilight of the Arnor? Is this a free update patch on Dark Avatar, or is it a new purchase and basically a new game? Twilight of the Arnor is listed in the updates at Stardock Central as an available update for Dark Avatar, but I did not download it because I am happy playing Dark Avatar for the time being and would rather not go to a new game or major changes if that's what Twilight of the Arnor is. I seem to be dominating the questions here, but I hope that the que

Thanks, everyone. I had installed Stardock Central but had not clicked on Games because I thought that would only be a list of their products and that Updates would be an item of its own. Anyway, now I have installed the voluminous updates including the Heightmap whatever that is. I'm hoping this won't screw up the good game I have already been playing and enjoying so much.

Thank you. How do I find out which version I have? It's straight out of the box, Gold Edition, Galactic Civilizations II Dread Lords includes Dark Avatar Expansion. I've never added anything to what came out of the box. I can't find anything anywhere on the box or in any screen or the manual that tells what version I have.

Are there any updates or patches for GC DL DA that we should be downloading? I've followed through the download button in the upper left corner of this website and did not find any, only a download to get Stardock Central, which I have installed but which does not show any updates or patches for Dark Avatar that I could find. Thanks for replies.

In the current game I haven't been able to get my ships to go on autopilot and can't get the game to cycle through my ships that have remaining moves (tab command). In the previous game this was going on no problem. Can someone please review how to get these processes to work? Is there a tech you have to have to be able to do this?" Thanks for your help.

Is it possible to have a non-colony ship (that can't be upgraded to a colony ship) occupy the space of a planet and stay there orbiting the planet to keep a neighbor from colonizing the planet? Please reply before I play six more turns. (Just kidding,) Thanks, Ed.

I've heard the expression "playing in windows" and understand it to mean you are playing the game with your internet browser open so you can go in and out of the game to check on something in the Galactopedia or read the replies to a question you posted here etc. without having to save the game, quit, and load up again. If that's not what is meant then please tell me where I've got it wrong. If I have that much right, then can someone tell us how to do it? When you are in the game, there is no

I think it's a wonderful game just the way it is. For those who think there are too many bells and whistles and that causes load problems, can't you go to the Options menu and cut down on most of those bells and whistles to rduce the load? I played oblivion and even after upgrading my graphics card I still had to set the video options such as anti-aliasing just right so as to stay within the power of my card. Seems the Video section of the Options menu that offers a way for those who wan

Questions about adding defenses to colonies: Is it possible to fortify a colony in the same way that you can fortify a starbase? Example: I have a 16 colony near a military starbase. In time I've sent constructors to the starbase to add attack and defense modules so it is extremely powerful against attack. But the colony is protected only by ships in orbit around it, plus some unknown defense inherent in a colony. 1. Is there a way of knowing what defense a colony has on its own

Is there any way of determining how many trade routes you are allowed at a given time? I've reached Master Trade tech and assume I can now have quite a few trade routes, but how do I find out how many? I'd rather not keep buildiong freighters and sending them out until I get a screen telling me I've exceeded the limit...that would be a pretty clumsy way to do it. Haven't found anything in the manual on this. Can someone help me out here? Thanks.

Here are two more newbie questions, about ships: 1. When I sent constructors to build bases on resources, as soon as they arrived at the resource they disappeared from the ship screen. When I got new techs to improve the resource bases, I was allowed to add modules, so I guess the constructor ships are still there but embedded in the resource base, but I no longer have any control over moving them. They do not show as orbiting the base. Is this the way it works? (I think I read somet
