So, if it's pretty much any site, you would think that I would have found it. It isn't on Stardock's main page, or Stardock Design, etc. which would make the most sense if it was generic clue. Next time Stardock has a contest I hope they make sure it works better than this one has been.

My mistake, I meant scientists, not necessarily climatologists. The 18,000 scientists I was referring to have all signed what is known as the Oregon Petition - and you're right, now that I look at the information, it seems that I was wrong about the number. It isn't 18,000, it's 31,000. I guess the other site was old. I'm not going to claim that this number is 100% accurate, but I believe it has some merit. Here is Wikipedia's article on the petition: <

My thoughts are that the only reason that it isn't done already is the extreme cost of necessary storage space and internet bandwidth. That is why some shows get yanked - they have to make room for other shows. I believe an hour-long DVR-MS (the format Media Center records in) of standard def TV is well over a gigabyte in size. Then you have the higher-def, DVD quality versions which are far larger. A DVD movie, minus the menu and bonus features, is about 6 gigabytes i

It is true that I'm not a climatologist and that my knowledge of physics comes from other people. However, those guys with Ph.D.'s also got their knowledge from other people. Also, I have seen numerous sites which state that there are over 18,000 climatologists who say global warming is a fraud. Also, I know that the government spends billions of dollars funding huge numbers of the climatologists who say global warming is a problem. After all, we have to save the plane

Right, I would be totally fine with it if the time limit was shorter, say, an hour to finish. However, leaving it open all day penalizes the people who actually can and do well on this game (which actually happens to include me this time around). Anyway, do you think we'll ever know who actually won?

74 Replies 119,681 Views

You could make it a drawing between the top five people... I still don't like the random drawing thing. And I have to ask: will we ever know who won today?

74 Replies 119,681 Views

More fair? The hell if it is. Now those who actually do well on this have a lower chance, and others who did poorly have a greater chance. How is that fair? Are you a socialist? I for one am pretty upset about that, especially since the longer they leave the freaking game running, the lower my chances become. I'm greedy too, you see - and I never win anything that involves luck. This random drawing thing has totally shot my chances of win

The number of people the chart shows changes every time I restart my browser, except for now, as the Progress Tracker is not showing at all. For instance though: clue #1 showed ~50 people earlier. I restarted my browser. Then it showed ~94 people on clue #1. I restarted my browser. Then it showed ~70 people on clue #1. And so on...

He's editing the raceconfig.xml file in the Program Files/Stardock/TotalGaming/GalCiv2/Twilight/Data/English folder, or applying a mod which edits that file.
... also curious: it's showing that more people got to the 5th clue than finished the 3rd clue.
I restarted my browser and now the numbers are no longer the same, and now more people have reached the 3rd than the 5th. EDIT: I restarted my browser again, and now once again more people have seen the 5th clue than the 3rd. I am beginning to doubt the accuracy of those numbers. A moment ago, i

Well, we will see who wins I guess. EDIT: I went back and looked at it, and yeah, the Stardog just hadn't been in the Red Wings theme like it was supposed to be. I hope that nobody else was able to see it while I wasn't.

It has been clarified that "Do you hear what I hear" referred to SoundPackager, which ironically is what I originally thought, but a glitch of some kind made it not work for me. That's too bad too, I might have won.

I will just say that when changing out components in your computer, never ever wear a fleece shirt. I recommend you wear a normal cotton t-shirt. The reason for this is that certain kinds of shirts, especially fleece ones, have a tendency to build up static charges which can easily destroy a computer component the instant you touch it. I've destroyed several computer components simply by not paying attention to what I was wearing.

Now that I restarted IE, the progress tracker is showing how many people found each clue, and now all of the Stardogs are gone, so it seems to be working okay. I hope this won't happen tomorrow - I would like a fair chance at winning this, so please fix whatever issue your contest is having. EDIT: Also, I should mention that the instant the contest started, the progress tracker showed one person on the fifth clue already, for a moment before it stopped showing any numbers at all

Umm, I think there is something screwy going on with this. It doesn't seem to be working right. Are there supposed to be Stardogs all over the place, all giving the same clue? And no, I don't hear what you hear. I thought maybe a Christmas theme or SoundPackager, but not there. But wait, no, it was there - once - and it gave me the same clue as the demigod website did. Oh, and your 'progress tracker' doesn't work either. What the hell?

Sins uses OGG? That's kind of ironic, I remember thinking that Stardock should have done that for GalCiv2, since MP3 is proprietary and its compression isn't as good. I actually use OGG myself for the small hobby game projects I make every now and then. You could download a copy of Winamp, that will play OGG files, and then you wouldn't have to mess around with burning it to a CD or whatnot.

As for the whole apocalypse idea, I personally would be more worried about someone creating a giant magnet and moving Earth closer to the sun (or the sun closer to Earth). Or we could invent a machine to destroy the nitrogen bonds in the atmosphere so that the sun's gamma radiation can roast us all like the Hulk. We could put a geosyncronized mirror into orbit and create a miniature Antarctica in the middle of New York. We could eat all of the fish in the ocean so that the w

Well, there are certainly both sides to the issue. I personally think that based on objective information (water = stability in temp, more CO2 = more plants and less CO2, etc.) that the earth's temperature merely cycles every so often, and that global warming is not caused by humans. The 'denialosphere' seems to have the better argument. But yeah, the information is out there if you just look for it. EDIT: What I meant earlier is that

I've had one like that that even the Dread Lords couldn't beat - it started out with I think 900 base hp, and after killing a few hundred Dread Lords, it wound up at 1.5k hp. Quite awesome.

Using the TA Iconians, I once had a game where it was me against the Dread Lords. The Dread Lords had, through my laziness, managed to conquer the rest of the galaxy except my two starting planets. This is the first and only stalemate I've ever seen in this game - my ships guarding my last two planets each had about 1.5k hp apiece, as well as some 500-ish beam attack and 300-ish defense (it's been awhile). The Dread Lords couldn't beat them, and my economy couldn't sust

You can't do it in the game, you have to go into c:/program files/stardock/totalgaming/gc2?/twilight/data/ and open the raceconfig.xml in Notepad. In this file you'll find all of the race's attributes, one of which is range. You can change this value to give every race a -200 to range. Just make sure you back up that file first, in case you mess up.
