Can anyone confirm what this guy is experiencing with 1.8 please? I'm wondering if 1.8 has bugs w/the AI that 1.5 does not.... Someone please come in here and confirm or deny. Thks

Good to see the game has given you so much enjoyment!! :D That's what it's for. If you're 'this' excited about DA... have a look at TA for a moment. ;)
Are you sure you ready for release ?With each version I see more and more "basic" bugs: Invisible core ships (had invisible starbase once) , Freighter command not working , technologies not appear in the tech list (but you can select them from tree) , some starbases can not be repaired with starbase repair kits,, miners doing nothing when in auto mode and there is upgrades to do, 3 "Sol" systems (each one with own earth mars etc) on the same map , CTDs from time to time , "next turn" disa
...End of April. I still remember getting the email, claiming it would be released NOVEMBER, LAST YEAR. D:Hmmm, I also remember people casting their votes to wait and send out a better finished product. Thanks for taking the time for putting out a great product. It was a long wait, but you can never anticipate getting sick or getting overwhelmed with other projects. Patience is a virtue and I am sure that most of us (the other players) will greatly anticipate the release date.

Great to hear. I'm not playing the betas because I want to experience the finished product first time. Looking forward to it!
Same here, ALTHOUGH I would really love to add to this "round" of user interactiveness.... would love to get some feedback to the developers, but........ I know this community is a bunch of Strategy badasses at heart, so I'm plenty confident that the guys that support this software (and especially the ones who've been there since the first
Could be the difficulty setting. Try playing on something higher than challenging. The names are scarrier than the opponents on some levels. I'm playing the latest patch now, 1.8g, and i don't find the AI too idle, they have 5- 6 ship fleets all over the place. However, I do notice that once you get rid of the enemy's fleets they will leave massive amounts of ships to protect their planets. Similar to what you described. The AI tends to build orbital fleets managers and such, but I find t

I still can't get over the multitude of ways to play and enjoy this software. In all honesty: I don't think there's a game in my 160+ stash that'll hold up to the test of time like GalCivII DA will. I have a feeling I'll still be playing DA and TA looooooooong after GalCiv III surfaces. GalCiv feels like Chess on steroids combined with the imagination of the world. This game pulls me in like no other.... and if you look at the different ways people go about pl
which version of DA should I settle on when I end up acquiring TA???Brother NeuralTech, once you get TA, DA will become a fond memory. Since I downloaded TA, I have only ever loaded up DA once: when the map editor was first released, and wouldn't work in TA. I loaded up my first map in DA and it worked like a charm. So believe me, this question is moot. Now, if you play meta tournaments, then DA will still be important until enough of the core players upgrade. If this is the case, then wh

The Drengin are badasses in 9/10 of the games I've played against them in. LOVE the way they play!!! mean bastards I tend to get a decent Economy going whilst trying to slip in Medium hulls 'just in time' for when the Drengin start pumping out military ships. The race I get into w/the Drengin more than not is - they have more advanced weapons, but I usually get the Medium hull researched just in time... so it's a great uphill struggle w/them from that point on (most o

Can't we simply 'edit' the AI and allocate the points ourselves? think we can... same as for when we're doing it to the race we're gonna play with in a game... innit barely ;p

I wish I could help you out there.... 1.5 here... and I've been wondering since mid last year if I should ever 'patch' DA... I still haven't heard from anyone on here which version is the definitive version we should all be playing. Something definitely sounds wrong though judging from the difficulty settings you were set at... although you did say you pick random... did you get stuck w/a bunch of "dumb" AIs for this particular match-up perhaps??? Other t
Perhaps think of it this way...It is a MIND CONTROL CENTER after all. And it is Evil of course. Perhaps it IS working as intended, just not on the subjects you think it is...oooooohhhhhhh, conspiracy is afoot! Question everything! Nefarious schemes are all around it!
(lol!) I like you because you're witty. ;)

I'm wondering how (if at all) TA will differ with the Max AI setting enabled. Also... if it's been tweaked from patch to patch. I'm still on 1.5, guys... since I still haven't learned which version of DA is the preferred, and least full of bugs. On my old AMD 3200 machine, the 'only' real bug I ever noticed in 1.5 was when the comp would stack BUTTloads of it's ships on top of each other... which would eventually (as soon as multiple races starting building LOTS of shi
Are we talking an extra 20-30 seconds per turn for the comp when AI is maxed... roughly? Not necessarily. Remember, the AI processes it's turn while you are taking yours. This has been the case since the game was in OS/2. IIRC, it was the first game to do this. So, there shouldn't be any noticeable slowdown, unless, perhaps, you are simply clicking the end turn button repeatedly without doing anything else in between. Even then, I haven't noticed much of any difference in the time it takes

I will try it out eventually, but atm: I require no extra difficulty. They basically only move what... an extra 2-4 moves ahead compared to 'non 100% cpu AIs' right? thks for the replies so far, Chr*s

Morning fellow Commanders, I'm in the middle of a fantastic war (been away from the game for months), and couldn't be happier. I've been playing DA on my new machine (Intel Q6600 & EFX 8800 GT) and am absolutely LOVING it! It runs like a dream..... now that I have WAY more machine than I used to: I've noticed that I can hit the turn button, and STILL zoom in/out and generally look around the map at will w/zero pauses/lag/etc (mid Comps' turn).... it's wonderful. I

I would love to start a discussion about what we all want from GalCiv III.... actually, I would be surprised if there aren't already multiple topics covering that subject... anyone wanna point me in that direction please? I'd appreciate it. The MAIN thing I'd like to add (and I know you guys will say I'm crazy)..... KEEP the 4x side of the game 100% intact... the game plays the same, BUT there would be one HUGE difference. When it comes time to do ANY batt

Everytime I see it sitting there on the shelf at Frys, I think to myself, "Do I really need another 4x strat game"... I mean... it was only mid last year that I first introduced myself to the genre. GalCiv II was my first... and will be my only 4x game un GalCiv III comes out... Seriously, can a 4x game get any better than GalCiv II? :)

I'm of the same mind that in order to patch ANY PC software... it should be a simple clickable .exe. Stardock worked w/me in the past so that I could still update w/out internet... they're a top notch company. SD needed 'something' for copy protection and this was their only way of implementing it w/out truely hindering their customer base - I think it was the wiset decision they could have made. That, or simply do NO copy protection at all, make the patches/updates do
