Upgrading from 1.5 to 1.8

Hi,

I just bought the Gold version and started a game. I see it's Dark Avatar 1.5 though. Will I be able to continue my current saved game without problems if I upgrade to the latest version 1.8?

Also, is it really necessary to download the Stardock Central software in order to obtain patches? (that's really bugging me -- I just want to download a file without installing extra stuff to do so).

Thank you.

It's always best not to try and continue a game through a version update. People have had problems doing that in the past.

SDC is the official distribution method. It's required to download and install updates. SDC also provides an easy and convenient way to install the game (tracks version info, handles activation, keeps archives). It's really quite unobtrusive and innocuous. I highly doubt you'll find anything to complain about other than the little bit of time it takes to download and install it.

I'm of the same mind that in order to patch ANY PC software... it should be a simple clickable .exe.

Stardock worked w/me in the past so that I could still update w/out internet... they're a top notch company.

SD needed 'something' for copy protection and this was their only way of implementing it w/out truely hindering their customer base - I think it was the wiset decision they could have made.

That, or simply do NO copy protection at all, make the patches/updates downloadable, and able to be taken home to a PC w/no connection - clickable .exe etc.

But, with the level of quality of their software, their level of service, dedication to their customer base and their personal interests in the development of these games: I give them this much 'off'.

They've earned it from me.

I mean... I'd never even heard of GalCiv until mid last year, and out of nowhere: they just landed in my compgameplaying swing of things.

Stardock is up there w/Blizzard and ID imo. I can't wait to see what they cook up next,

no idea why my post is read, and why "me" changed to Neural Tech - trust me, I didn't speak of myself in the 3rd person :p
