Zyx, if you had anything constructive to add you would have done so some time ago. So just troll-la-la-la along... In other news, i tried the memory switch described above, but began a new game... so it will be a while before i see a difference i guess. However, reading what has been written about adding this, and looking at other info i've seen about making this addition, i should probably reverse the changes. i wish i would have purchased the 64bit version of Vista when i

[quote] on a separate note, i've got nothing against Mac-ophiles, but seriously, if you want to play video games, they're really not the best way to go. i imagine the purchase was probably made out of professional necessity, video editing or something along those lines, and if that's the case it was a fine choice to make. but if you can afford a seven thousand dollar computer for professional applications, i think you can suck it up and assemble five to seven hundred dollars worth of standard PC

Very helpful Scoutmaster. i am going to try this out immediately. i did a bit of research on Vista and it seems that the 32 bit version (which is the one i have--Home Premium) can recognize maybe up to 3 GB of memory. The 64 bit version can recognize more, so i wish i would have gotten that version. Amazing to me that PC's are so lightweight these days. My MacPro has two 64 bit processors and can handle up to 32 GB of RAM if i wanted to push it to that... even OS 10.4 recognizes a

Yes, i was ranting, and perhaps i owe everyone an apology for that. However, in my defense, i had just experienced yet another annoying loss of numerous actions taken during a turn of the game that i could not then save. Although i have the game set to save automatically every turn, sometimes, a lot happens in one turn. This is a very irritating bug that is known, and experienced by many. It is furher irritating to know that the only way to repair the bug, apparently, is to shell out more mo

And one more thing for the idiots who posted above blaiming me and my MacPro for this issue: "Unfortunately, the memory management in GalCiv2's code base is almost nil. I'll be nice and not pick on the developer who wrote the 3D engine despite the fact that he no longer works here, but the fact is that we'd have to pretty much re-write the engine to get more control (or even more information) over the memory usage. I tried introducing the memory tracker that we're using for the fantas

And one more time, for all those who might still be a little confused... i CAN play the game. i can even play the game on a gigantic map if i want. The thing runs quite smoothly. But, after several hours of play and the game becomes interesting, then it runs out of memory. Therefore, i have begun playing on a smaller map, and decreased demands on the system, but it still does this. Therefore i can't ever seem to finish a game. i think my irritation is quite justified. i ask agai

[quote] You didn't think it was worth mentioning previously that you're running via bootcamp on a Mac? And you're blaming the game and the coders when you're trying to run it in a totally unsupported manner on an emulated OS? And winner of the, "Ding Ding Ding!" prize goes to, rls669! Congrats!!! And a great, succinct, and totally accurate point! Rhamial, don't blame the game for your own problems. For instance, it's not the game's fault

Oh please. i didn't mention it because i knew some friggen idiot, such as the morons who attempted to flame above clearly show, would jump on the fact that i am running Windows on the Mac as THE problem... which, btw, it CLEARLY IS NOT. i am NOT running Windows under emulation, i am booting straight into it, and i have drivers downloaded and installed from the sites themselves for the WinTel components. Blithering idiots, can't wait to flame a Mac, eh? BTW, regarding the price tag... at least

BTW, the 3 gb alteration to the boot.ini file on the MS website appears to only affect Windows Server... can it be done on Windows XP? If so, how should it be written in the Boot.ini file? i have virtual memory already set to its highest setting, but this does not appear to help much. i am running on a MacPro 3ghz under bootcamp. This does not present any issues, however, in running any other application that is Windows based. i have 13 gb of physical RAM--but am well aware

i am running Windows XP and everything on it is updated. i understand the RAM limitations of the OS, which makes me doubly question why this game fails to run reliably on a system for which it was written. i have the most up to date versions of Gal Civ and Dark Avatar, and i save the game every turn, and have the game set to auto save. The game doesn't crash... it just says it doesn't have enough memory to save the game. This is incredibly annoying. Especially if you have made numerous move

What is it with this game? And what is it with game developers that they can't seem to simply create a game with CLEAN code so that it can actually be PLAYED? i have not been able to compelte a single game since i have owned this piece of crap because it is constantly giving me out of memory errors. And the biggest headache of all is that the out of memory errors always seem to occur when i am saving the game! Before you folks go creating further expansion packs for this hunk of JUNK why don

i just don't get it! i have not been able to complete a game since i got this game. Seriously. And worst of all, is the out of memory error only appears when you go to save the game! What the heck is that?!!! i spend all day playing a game, and want to save the thing to go to bed... and i can't! i have 5gb of RAM? Something needs to be done. This is UTTERLY RIDICULOUS!

i am constantly getting an out of memory error when i go to save the game. When i tab out of the game, it takes forever for me to get back into it. This only happens when i go to save the game and is extremely frustrating. i have 5gb of RAM in this machine... i just don't understand what could possibly be the issue... This has been an ongoing problem with this game... which is quite fun, if i could ever REALLY get into it without one error or the other crashing the game.

uhm... so sorry for being an idiot here :/ Where do i put the mod so that i can play it? i put it in the mod directory of galactic civ (i have dark avatar but there was no mod director) but the mod does not seem to be showing up even though i have mods enabled in the options. Help please. Thanks

well... it still crashes... it appears to be linked to whether ships are together as a fleet. i have battles on "normal" view, rather than watch battles in movie mode or what ever that is called. If i am attacked with fleets or i attack a fleet then the game just crashes. i have only seen this with the Vulcan's so far... darnit. This error appears about 20x's at the end of the debug log file: ASSERT ERROR in file .\Source\Starship.cpp at line 14010.

Thanks NavyBert, i will give this a try... well, every suggestion with the exception of the first one as i have no clue how to repair an xml file :/ i absolutely love this mod. It breathes new life into the game and i was very let down when my game started crashing... it always seems to do this at the best parts... right when everything is beginning to pick up speed... aarrggggh. Hopefully the two other suggestions will work.

i finally figured out what i was doing wrong with the ships. Thanks for the suggestions. However, my game continuoulsy crashes... this happens when i am attacking with a fleet, and sometimes when i am attacking with a single ship... Why is this? Does anyone else experience this problem? i have federation ships and when i attack the Vulcan's then the crash occurs. Things seemed to be doing better when i stopped full fleet battles being shown in the viewer, but then i crashe

thanks for posting the update here... Stardock downloaded the GalCiv update, but kept saying it could not download the update to DA or the heightmaps... using Stardock may be convienent, but it is not so when it does not work... posting updates on the site here would be a little less confusing. i am still unable to get the heightmaps however... this is a wee tad frustrating i have to admit... the game crashing all the time is also rather frustrating... Great game... if it would work.

It was the Star Trek mod that i was attempting to load, but this is irrelevant. The issue is that i can't seem to make the game go back to its original configuration of finding mods in the original location even if i have deleted mods in the new location because there is apparantly no real way to navagate folders from within the game itself...

That is what i am saying... when i click on the shipyard tab there ARE NO ships available. It is EMPTY. And, in addition, all weaponry, etc. is blackened out... although there are names there, when i click on them there are no pictures of the actual components. This is regardless of whether i choose the Terrans or any other race... i can't build a ship in the ship yard without anything there to build it with.

My mods folder originially went to the one for galactic Civ. But i changed it becuase although mods were going to the actual game screen, no ships were showing up in the build screen... not even the game original ships. i created a mods folder in the avatar folder, and somehow the game found it and again loaded the mod... still same problem. i get the mod to load, and i even have the starting out mod ships. But then when i go to the build screen... there are absolutely no ships avail
