Ok I pulled out all the miniaturization tech and went in and checked out the hulls in a 'battle of the gods' game... The avaiable space is significantly lower without miniaturization but still not so low that with the smaller size of the weapons in the advanced stages of the tree you cant make a decent ship... So I started looking at the tree and thinking how I was going to slip in the extra hull techs. This is what I came up with on my first attempt so far... Basic Hull Design

I'm not sure if I can get my 3dsmax back up and running but if I can I have some modelling experience (Starfleet Command series, NWN1. Yes, a while back) but havent done much in a while as I havent really found a game that has caught my eye lately. Well, till now that is. I will see whats up if I can find the disk I put it on. i have 3dsmax 5 or maybe its six laying around here somewhere. Alot of good advice here for many varying styles of play so I think I'll just emphasize a thing or two. 1)Random AI is a killer if you are learning the game. The AI gets pretty smart on high levels and will crush you if you dont know the game mechanics. 2)Try to balance your initial colony rush. If you overextend too soon your economy will stutter and crash HARD. Once you learn more and start to gain your own little building strat you will be able to increase the colonies

Didnt realize I'd started a conversation, I've been too busy addicted to the game to notice. I never had galciv one nor any civ game at all so I'm still figuring stuff out. As I played I found out what miniturization was actually doing for me (only had the game a couple of weeks now) and I started wondering if my hull idea was even worth it. I'm confused what more hulls you're actually making? like more hulls in between tiny, small, medium, and large

Anyway, I wanted to add that storyline, if you really cared that much, could be a futuristic setting with a united earth where the stargates effectiveness is still based around small skirmishes, espionage, and sabotage as mentioned above, and planetary inhabitation and attack had to occur on a much larger scale, again, as mentioned above by stormWeaver. It can be its own tech tree nearly. Or slipped in along with the exsisting troop modification

You use ships to take heavily populated worlds, you use Stargates for espionage and sabotage, so make it an Invasion Tactic! Make it destroy atleast one improvement and reduce defenses slightly. Makes sense to me. It could be available alongside Traditional Warfare in the Planetary Invasion tech. I think it could still be done. Well said, and perfect as an invasion tactic. Send in an SG team, or more, with various options available in tact

Is it possible to create new hull catagories other than the default (tiny, small, etc...)? I get the feeling its not. I had the idea of creating a branch off of medium building and making 'enhanced tiny/small hull design' then off of massive building, or whatever it is, have enhanced medium hulls. But as I said I get the distinct feeling I'm pushing into hardcoded territory when it comes to actually being able to provide the new hulls. What I'm thinking is make use of the new 'fie
