NO SICK JOKES PLEASE Awww...You know us better than that. OK. I'll behave just this once. Summer has started here too. It's a tad over 150F and down to about 99.999% humidity. It won't be too long before we'll need our air conditioners. My sister-in-law's car recently lost its AC. I'll have to remember to call her up and say that

Speaking of which, who wants to join my campaign for Earth to become a PQ 11 in the next revision? I think its a pretty good place, all things considered, and all that liquid water...mmm, mmm, good! What's this? Earth as a PQ 11? I'd have to respectfully disagree. How can intelligent, much less industrialized life exist on a planet that's made up of about 70% water? And 97% of that is salty? A PQ 8 at best. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/
Great concept, ghostwes, and well thought out rules, ghostwes and neilo! I'd love to play in a tournament where an impartial Ring Master hands out the assignments like that. The win/loss scoring idea is nice too, since it would really level the playing field. I'd also say, play within one level of your regular difficulty. For instance, I play suicidal. It wouldn't be particularly fair if I decided to go cakewalk for the tourney. I'm not sure what difficulty would be one step below
I want... his giant menagerie of Evil Houseplants! I understand the Root of All Evil is in there somewhere You're killing me! And beside that, my army of spies sent distrubing reports to me....the
Whaddaya mean "already"? It's been numerous days without a coup or at least an attempt to take our leaders life or position already! My, my. Where does the time go? And beside that, my army of spies sent distrubing reports to me....there are rumours of his evirulness being somehow entagled with some "Do-Gooders"-empire.
Ahhh! Another victim...er...Member! Welcome aboard, Iceciro! Viva la revolucion! So, Herodias...Trying to stage a coup already? Pretty evil, but his evirulness the emperor might have a word or two to say about it. Something along the lines of...
Thanks, guys. Looks like I've played everyone except the Altarians for this tournament. Might as well put one in for them. They're the easiest to play out of the group, so it shouldn't take too long. @neilo - I know the feeling. We go on 12s for one or two weeks at a time about 4 to 5 times a year. Always goes through the weekends too. I hope yours goes as well as it can. <a href="
Welcome, DethAdder and Wargoat! We keep getting stronger and stronger! It won't be long before I'll lose track and have to call our members by their character names instead of their aliases. That's a good thing, IMO. Well, apparently yue ebil i
Yet another galaxy falls to the glorious Drengin!
FYI We are now 16th on the AltMeta...Whoo hoo!! Up to #9 now with The Mad Dragon and my other character! I dont know how to get the huge scores like Mottikhan, no matter what I do. No secrets here. 1. Suicidal Difficulty. (Higher score multiplier AFAIK) 2. 9 Opponents.
Ok, now when abouts should I do that? Like, at first, how many planets should I attempt to colonize? I like to colonize as many planets as I can in the early game. I skip the low class ones (5 or lower) though. If they're inside your area of influence, they'll eventually flip to your side anyway. On the small maps that I play on suicidal, I normally get two or three planets besides my homeword and then the colony rush is over. Sometimes I on
It appears that the voting is over. Best of luck to neilo and Wyndstar! With what I'm sure was good participation in the elections, whatever happens, the Metaverse will be better off. It's time for me to take my leave from the HCH to concentrate on more evil things. Take care and stay logical. <a href="http://altmet
I don't want to reduce the difficulty, because I will never learn. I agree. Play at the very highest level that you can and you'll learn more. I also play DL instead of DA. Techs vary depending on race, but I go with a basic idea when I research. I choose the tech that'll give me the best economic advantage in the least amount of time. The first techs I try for are... Universal Communicator (so I can do the tech tra
Hey, how do I go about joining? I need a place that is willing to help teach a noob . We're here to help whether you join or not. As far as that goes, I'm not sure. Our emperor sent me an invitation via email. There's a way to join without that, but I don't remember how. Would the emperor o
I'm considering a move. I might bring my main character over from the HCH. The reasons are that I feel a lot more comfortable here and the "fun" part of this empire suits me better than the "mature" theme of the HCH. I joined the HCH when Alex was under attack from ouside the empire. I wanted to show my support for him while that played out. That's now over with and I feel like I've done my part there. Thoughts? I'd particularly like to hear from MarshallONeil and neilo,
My Drengin game is getting close to finished. The Arceans have just fallen and only the Drath remain from the original 9. Their economy is in shambles, while mine is through the roof. My military took a beating from the Arceans, but will recover pretty quickly. I only have two troop transports and one fleet of medium missile ships left, other than my myriad tiny engineless defenders. It might be enough. No gaming for me for the next couple of days, but I'll finish this one up before
A warm welcome to Herodias! Our evirulness is getting stronger by the day!
@ The Mad Dragon - I think you're on the right track by first disabling the tech victory. I have all victory conditions disabled except Military and Alliance. The other posts are also good ideas. In the early game, immediately after the colony rush (or during it close to the end), I usually build small fighters with the cheapest 1 attack and 1 defense that I can. No engines, since they won't be moving anytime soon. I build 9 for my home planet and 9 for whatever my other e
Will do, and thanks. Should I finish and submit my current game first, or is SmartException safe to install during a Metaverse game?
I've been getting random CTDs without any obvious reason while playing DL. I usually ignore them and go on, having set the autosave to every two turns to offset the problem. I have read that the problem is thought to only occur on larger maps, but I've been playing small maps. I'm not posting to complain. The game is excellent and this isn't a game killer. I'm posting in the hope that this can help those who might be troubleshooting similar problems. Here's the debug.err...
I have the Gold Edition, but play DL exclusively for now too. I don't have a problem with DA now, I'm just not finished with DL yet. At first, I thought pretty much like you did. Rules changing and having to re-learn it, etc. I'm warming up to the idea of DA now that I can see that DL will eventually get long in the tooth. The changes in DA will freshen it from time to time. Mind you, that's a completely different thought process than I've had not too long ago. <br/
Hehe...That's an eeevirul mountain if I ever saw one, neilo. Thanks for the tip, kryo! neilo - I lifted and modified that welcome graphic and can't duplicate the font. Here's a couple of home made ones... If you hover your mouse over this one, it'll display "Mwahahaha!" The text can be changed to whatever we want. <img src="http://inlinethumb49.webshots.com/6320/27
Welcome aboard, MarshallONeil! Sorry to steal your nice welcome banner Motti, it just seems to fit us so well. No prob. It's public domain AFAIK. Maybe we can even corrupt some of the "good" empires into using it. Bwahahahaha! On another note. I'd like everyone's opinion on at what point we stop making everyone a sena
Are those the Thalans? (I can't quite make it out. Old monitor with older eyes.) If so, I came across that once too. Only once and it was a while back. I think I had done a CTRL-N and got a CTD before reloading it. I abandoned that game after reading the debug.err and seeing that the AI's intelligence was reset to a lower level. Similar circumstances? If so, just abandon it and be real careful with the picks on your next game.
Just dropped my first 100k game for the empire! And i tell ya it just might be the last, 7 years of mopping up planet after planet, and i did'nt get 1 surrender go in my favour poor me. My first one was this weekend. I gotta tell you, it got rather monotonous towards the end there, with the turns taking so long just to move the ships around. I looked for a way to skip showing the ship movement phase, but didn't find one. Zooming out to icon mode was
