To plang75015: They should do it for free as a goodwill gesture for people who are currently using their products (even the most mercenary credit card company doesn't charge a "change of address fee")(nor do most car DMV offices). It should also be free as a way to entice people into making new purchases. That being said, I suppose a transfer fee of something less than $5 would probably (VERY GRUDGINGLY) pass muster with most gamers. Side note to (Citizen)Silverbeacher:

Silverbeacher's example is all wet becuase even he/she admits such an example doesn't happen in real life. Once again, we are NOT talking about making multiple copies for resale profiteering piracy. We are NOT even talking about making one personal use only backup copy to keep in a fire safe in case the original disk gets damaged or destroyed. I have NEVER lost a game disk in my life and if anyone is stupid enough to do so then they deserve to have to pay again. What is a good e

It's garbage start positions like this that SCREAMS the need for a SID MEYERS Civ Conquests style map editor that lets YOU dictate starting positions.

I'm not a big fan of SDC because of it taking up precious hard drive space, and some of us on a tight budget just can't spend the money for a bigger drive right now. Also, AND MOST IMPORTANT---The idea of having a game company shove its data management program down our throats just so we can download a patch is HEAVY HANDED and the kind of thing that got Microsoft a class action lawsuit to "unbundle" some of its programs. While I don't mind the ocasional email from a game company informing me of

Oh, 2 more things. 1st: any starbase will increase the exploration range of ships in the area. If your exploration ship gets a messege that it can't go further, get a constuctor there, build a base, and you will be able to travel futher from "home". 2nd: if you build an influence base next to an opponents planet, you had better build a couple of defense and weapons modules (or at least have a warship guard it) or your opponent is likely to send ships to destroy the pesky base.

Influence starbases have a MAJOR effect. If you put one up in open space, that area is under your influence immediatly with expanded borders. If you put one up next to an opponents border, it will "push against it" depending on how strong your overall influence is. Influence starbases will not have an effect on neighboring solar systems unless they are within the bases' range of effect. However if both you and another race have a planet in a system, the planets' influence fight aginst each other

Hi, actually, for this discussion a better example can be given. Think of "CRAFTSMAN" tools: "Warranteed forever." Get a replacement at any time if not 100% satisfied. No receipt required. The brand word “Craftsman” stamped on the tool is sufficient. It does not matter who you are, or when, or where you bought it. It does not matter if you bought the tool personally or if it was bought by your grandmother literally100 years ago. It is a genuine “Craftsman” tool in your physical possession, which

I don't want to pay for you to burn your copy to everyone you know because it's an awesome game and then everyone gets to update their illegal game . Ok guys(and any ladies who might be reading this), As I threw out a statement of opinion that is obviously controversial, I don't mind a lively debate. I don't mind someone else having the opinion that I'm wrong. As I have stuck to the topics of business

If Stardock's programmers had got it right in the 1st place there would be no need for patches. To put it bluntly: A customer should not have to pay for the manufacture's F!@# ups. It does not matter who has a legit copy of the disk. Who ever physically has the Stardock manufactured disk(assuming it wasn't stolen of course) IS THE RIGHTFULL USER!!! It doesn't matter how many times the disk has changed hands, whoever has it is ENTITLED to patches/ updates with equal rights as the 1st time puchase

An option for sid meyers CIV like borders is one of the best things that could happen to to GALCIV. I have played HUNDREDS of hours worth of the various Sid Meyers games and find them to be THE model for Stardock to emulate. When I played my 1st GALCIV game, I was actually quite shocked that the AI was crossing MY "borders". Of course you could have trade routes, its just a simple matter to make freighters "immune" to borders. Of course an otpion could be programmed in the diplomacy screen to de

I said it before and I'll say it again: For anyone at Stardock to claim it is cost prohibitive or technologically difficult to change serial number registrations is just a crock. The registry of motor vehicles can change a vehicle registration from one owner to another in ONE MINUTE flat!!!!!!!!!!!! It is as easy to verify possesion of an original disk as emailing a photo of the disk that shows the serial number on the case. Some peiple dream of hitting the lottery and never working a job a

To Archonsod: At least we agree about EB's "old trick". Nice to agree on at least one point. I used to play Daggerfall, still have the disk, anyone interested in an old game with a million miles or so on it?? (ok, ok, just trying to lighten things up a bit-though I do still have the disk---wonder if it would make a good coaster?) Next point: my warrantied products carried a serial number (just like the disks) so being taken in by mass produced copies wasn't an issue. Once

Hollow man misses part of the point. To some of us poor working stiffs with 4 year old 60 GIG hard drives filled to the max, hard drive space means something. Not everyone has dual 500 GIG drives with a 3 day old vid card and dual core processors. Do I WANT to play with the disk in the drive? Of course not. Do I want to see copywrite protection on the disk so I can't make a single backup in case the original disk gets damaged? Heck no.Its just an option that would help those of us who only have

Hi, to reply to 3/4 Cav: I think YOU are missing the very essence of the point. Lets start with the LEGAL part 1st. There are provisions of the Uniform Commercial Code and other FEDERAL LAW that give the buyer an implied warranty of usability no matter what disclamer the seller/manufacturer tries to claim. This is very much like going to a used car dealer and buying a car. The dealer can say "As Is" all he wants but if the car is sold without passing safety inspection the dealer is guilty of a F

Hi, yes, while I will kibitz to no end about details of the game that I think should be adjusted for playability, I will give credit where credit is due and say thanks to KRYO for the generally speedy forum replies...

Hi all, actually what I'd like to see added is the ability to change political parties (and more than once)during the game. You would not get the bonuses of the ousted party but get the bonuses of the new party. You would have to pass a vote so morale would still be a factor. Building your empire? play the federalists. Ready to kick some butt? vote out the bean counters and put in the War party. While I hate to keep comparing GalCivII to another game, if Sid Meyers Civilization has this option i

Hi,Linthar, thanks for the thought. I tried that and it works somewhat. Problem is one you get to a certain power level, the race you're at war with keeps surendering to another race. You still end up being force to attack everyone constantly instead of being able to leave an enemy with just his homeworld and an active state of war so you can keep playing a building flavored game. Yet there is a spot on your relations screen that lets YOU surrender to someone but no option to DEMAND surrender of

Ok, so lets assume the seller is on the up and up and its a case of the seller trying the game and simply not liking it. The seller has made no copies of the disk and the buyer now has the only original. The seller also gives the buyer the logon username and password. How does the buyer now change the username to the name he wants? It really should be this simple.

249 Replies 602,518 Views

Why is there a need to have a new serial number? Why can't the seller just deactivate the account he created and have the buyer activate a new account? Only 1 account would be active at a time for a given serial number. Why should anyone care who is using a given number?

To the GalCivII managers and developers: HEED THE MASSES !!!. There is no reason you can put forth that will satisfy us about not making a decent map editor. Sid Meyers CIVILIZATION series has one of the best map editors in existance. You can create random maps with general parameter outlines for size, resource density, etc.. You can build a map tile by tile. You can tile by tile adjust a random or premade map. You can adjust landscapes and their resource output. You can add bonus resource tiles

Hi,all. Thanks for the reply Vinraith, I see that option and will use it in future games. Kryo, thanks for taking the time to reply . I understand the GalCivII might not be programmed to play beyond victory: MAJOR DESIGN FLAW!!, as other games do have this feature, (future patch/update??). What I'm now looking for is a good hacker who knows how to change the individual save game file to make the file read
