Hi All. Haven't been here for ages. Hope every one is well. Work's been a b*tch for the last year and half, as I been implementng a new supply chain for the hospital I work at. We are live now, but still many problems. Haven't play Gal Civ for a while now, but I'm playing a lot of CIV5. Maybe I fire it up and see if I can still roar. And, congrats KP. Later.

After playing this game for almost 3 years now (my word, 3 years), I've decided to try something different. I'm not going to play for score. I'm going to play to see how long I can keep a balance. I want to try to keep the 9 AIs and 8 minors around as long as I can. Some of my goals are trying to keep all AIs alive for 10 game years, generating very high experience fleets, letting 1 minor expand by giving him a secondary star system. My first attempt is a lot of fun so far. I'm
Give 'em ell. Just remember the Kzinti motto. Sentient species taste better...
Just lucky, I guess. [e digicons][/e]
I actually missed one. The Iconians have one on there homeworld. That should bump me over 100 when i take it.
1. No, but you will need to able to connect to post a game. You will be prompted when you complete a game. 2. No. You only need to be connect to start a new game, or post a completed game. 3. Nope. 4. I play Terrans almost excusively. Make money, not war!!! I trade for everything, even military and planets. Someone else might be able to give you some direction on a different race. Enjoy.
Unchecking all victories conditions should give you military only victory conditions. I have played many MV games doing exactly that. Don't know why you had a tech victory loss, except to ask the obvious. Are you SURE you had tech victory unchecked?
I have 99 right now in a game I'm playing. Every major race built a Hyperion Logicstics Sytems, and i bought, extorted, orflipped those planets. Forgot to build one myself though. Doh!!
Thanks all. I started a new one last night. I'm pretty sure I can better my score.
Can I join? http://metaverse.galciv2.com/index.aspx?g=player&id=16316
Quoting Ferrel, reply 3748 I had 10K 1/1 tinies. I'm upgrading them piece meal, to 25/70, until I get to around 8K. Then I'll try a mass upgrade. I can upgrade around 100 per turn, and am almost to the 8K mark. If that doesn't work I'll upgrade piece again until 7K and try it then. Gotcha. Makes sense. If you haven't already, might want to think about overbuilding anything that is
Quoting Ferrel, reply 3742 I got an econ boom and pop increase event fairly early that hasn't ended yet. Anyway, not doing to bad for my first giga. Those events make it more fun. Sounds like you doin good. Have you decided what to do about the upgrade? A one turn upgrade will certainly max military, probably overall score. If you can't upgrade than many ships there a
I would have had another game to post today, but I made the mistake of playing V2.03. Don't upgrage to V2.03, it makes things WORSE, not better. Here's what happened this time: 1) The Korath completely culture flip, the graphics go wacky. 2) The Drengins completely culture flip, the game freezes up.
Sorry to hear that. I have not experienced any problem
Popped in to say I'm still working on my first giga map. It's 8 Apr year 3. I checked the score and was at 472,000. Not sure what kind of final score I'll get. There are only 541 colonies, of which I hold 540. Most are fully built up with max pops of 15B to 23B. i have around 10K 1/1 tiny hulls. Not sure if I should just stop building ships, and upgrade as many as I can each turn. Turns are getting awfully long. I got an econ boom and pop increase event fairly early that hasn't ended yet. Any
I'm doing OK on the giga map. Half way through year 1 and just about ready for a swindle. Giga maps sure play different though.
Has a 300,000 medium ever been done? Your'e knocking at the door.
I don't think so. It's what I'm shooting for. Though, yesterday, I actually started a giga map!!! I'm in serious economic trouble half way through year 0, but I think I'll pull out of it OK. Anomalies sure are spread out on a giga map.
Ferrel, congrats on your latest and greatest score! Sentient species taste better...
Thanks. That was without an economic boom, and I never did manage to upgrade those 9500 ships.
This has probably been discussed before but.... Are there any tricks to getting around a Runtime error when doing a massive ship upgrade? In my case 9500 ships. My system has 4Gb of physical memory, dual core processor, virtual memory set at 5Gb min, 8Gb max.
Very helpful, this. I created 8 macros, so I can click on a fleet, select a ship, and use a hot key to upgrade to one of the eight ships in the upgrade list. I will eventually create a macro to upgrade every ship in a fleet, but right the 8 macros I created are saving a lot of time.
Kudos to Robert Hentschke for coming up with this. i will definately be playing around with this on the weekend. Maybe we should post any macros we come up with here. I've got some programming aptitude, so I should be able to come up with a few.
Another good idea. Thanks.
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I knew about the all ships tickbox, but I really only want to upgrade the ships that have fleeted, not the the ones in transit. Oh well. I like your idea about a keyboard macro though.
My last game brought up an issue of tedium in regards to upgrading ships. I built nothing but tiny blank hulls and had them fleet at a rally point near my SCC. Here I would upgrade them into what I wanted them to be. Contructers, Frieghters, Colony Ships, whatever. I got to the point where I was upgrading over 100 ships each turn. Here's how I was doing it. Click on fleet, click on ship, click on detail, click on upgrade, click on what I wanted to upgrade it to, click on upgrade,
Ferrel, congrrats on the latest game! Looks like a new personal best for you. Sentient species taste better...
Yup. An econ boom helped, but concentrating on my military VERY early, to the exclusion of all else, did the trick.
Saw it last night. I have one question. Why did the aliens come to Earth in the first place? Or did I miss something?
