A burglar is snooping through a house at night, flashlight in hand, when he hears a disembodied voice. "Jesus is watching you!" Thinking he's hearing things he continues snooping. Once again, he hears "Jesus is watching you!" Now he's sure he heard it. Pointing his flashlight at the corner of the room he sees a parrot in a cage. "Jesus is watching you", says the parrot. Relieved, the burglar approaches the cage. "And what's your name, pretty bird?" he asks. "Clarence" the bird replies. Amused, h

My typical map settings (due to PC limitations) are a Dread Lords medium map, 5 opponents, no tech trading, abundant habitable, common planets, common stars. I had no problems using a balanced approach up to and including the Maso difficulty level. Lost a first Suicidal and came here looking for any strategy tips. I came acroos this all factories/all labs approach. I've had a very hard time making either of these strats work on Maso. I think I now know why. Typically the colony rush, on my setti

David Brin - Sundiver, Startide Rising, The Uplift War. (The Uplift Saga, 1st Trilogy) David Brin - Brightness Reef, Infinity's Shore, Heaven's Reach (The Uplift Sage, 2nd Trilogy. Startide Rising, and The Uplift War, both won Hugos for best novel. Also recommended. Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. Possibly my favorite scifi novel. It also won a Hugo.

I completed a DA game. Only on Painful, but that was painful enough. I didn't mind coping with the all the changes, unfortunately my PC couldn't. One crash, and soooooo slow. I was only playing on a medium size map, had graphics set to low, and still..., "stutter, cough, wheeze, gaak". I have no problems playing medium size maps in DL, so until I upgrade that's it for me with DA. Have you tried the lat

Just finished my 25th Metaverse DL game last night. FINALLY, I started a DA game. Wow, how things have changed. My starting strat doesn't work as well anymore, and I was late to the 2nd phase of the colony rush. Had to quickly research some colonization techs to prevent the AI from grabbing planets from under my nose. I'm a little behind at this point but, I'm first in Tech so I should be able to catch up.

I had my page file on a physically different drive than my system drive, my D: drive, and hard set to 3072Mb. So I am assuming that you have more than one hard drive, correct? If not, then how the heck did the virtual memory go to a 'different' drive? Just have to ask since I'm pulling out my hair trying to get a stable running game. <img id="ImageResize_Image_1" onload="ImageResizer.createOn(this);" src="

I know this is an old thread but I was experiencing this exact problem in DL. The first 10 invasions everything is OK. At the 11th the hard disk light would go crazy. The pop-up would take a long time to load, and response would severely lagged. Restarting the game would aways solve this. But that was a pain. I made a change to my system and the problem went away. I buy factories. Here's what I do if there are no production bonuses on my homeworld. (This is a DL strat, I haven't played DA yet) Turn 1. Buy a basic factory (438bc) on your homeworld. Focus on Military production. Set spending to 100%. Set Social and Research to 0%. This should get you a colony ship in 3 turns. (At least with the custom race I'm playing) Turn 2. Buy another basic factory on your homeworld. Lock Social at 0%. You can now adjust the military down from 100%, bu

This strategy has worked for me in 2 games so far. Medium size, custom race vs. 4 tough AIs. DL, haven't played DA yet. The first game ended in a very quick Influence victory. The 2nd is well on it way to victory. Very solid strat, and not having to keep adjusting focus and sliders made the game play so much faster.

Let your allies take all the punishment. Don't expand. Concentrate all your infrastructure on research, a few defenders to handle DL transports, and do not build starbases. They are DL magnets. Your goal here is to be the research center for your allies. As soon as you get a new tech, sell or trade it to all allies. Make sure they stay at the same tech level as you, and they will do 99% of the work. I easily won this way on Tough.

Hello everyone. My first post here. I never played GalCiv 1, but I'm having a blast with GalCiv 2. Currently playing at Normal level. I just wanted to share a story about a game I was playing. I was Terran. It had all come down to 4 races remaining. Me, the Drengin, the Altarians, and the Arceans. The Arceans had been fighting the Drengin for most of the game. Currently they were kicking the crap out of the Drengin. I had been playing nice all game, tech trading with everyone, setting
