Negative! As for "newest", the Kzinti predate the HCH by about, ummm, 25+ years or longer - when they first appeared in Niven's books. They're pretty dated. Logic is irrefutable, everlasting . . . . . and besides, I'm allergic to cats. We're still around! Still listed on Altmeta - in 8th place! I can't think of a better position to start driving once more for the top rank!
Popcorn Avenger
I miss the Hegemony *sniffle*. Of course, I also feel responsible for it's current state . . . is there no player of some stature willing to revive the Irrefutable? Our Logic is Undeniable! The Universe was ours, and can be ours again.
From the depths of space, emerging from the shadow of a dead world, the nearby red sun revealed the immense bulk of the HCH Star Warden. Harvesting valuable minerals and artifacts from the long dead precursor ruins, the Warden loitered as several constructors and scientific craft hummed about the planetoid like so many busy little bees. The Captain sighed. "There's no doubt it was a Hegemony transmission?" "None, sir. The datastream contains encrypted protoc
I'm experiencing a consistent CTD when clicking on planets in order to place a Spy. While the problem itself is intermittent, it -always- occurs when performing this action (like it tries to open the planet view and crashes). Debug only shows me saving the game (I quicksave prior to placing agents). I can restart the game and do it again and it works fine, only seems to occur after the game's been running awhile. **************************************************** Debug M
Seems like you could split it into two categories, best Horror and Best "Monster" movie. For me, hands down its John Carpenter's The Thing, which IMO was the greatest horror movie of all time. Best story, best plot, best (and scariest) critter. If I had a favorite monster, though, it'd be the Alien Queen I think. Or maybe King Kong.
. . and with that I'm going to get on with the task of bringing my scores back up. ;) . Once I know the "lay of the land" and its confirmed the HcH is no longer a viable metaverse entity I'm sure the wayward fleet will have to apply for membership in another empire. Doesn't mean the story's ended, but the Star Warden and its fleet, for now, has once again disappeared into the depths of space. I'm sure the actions of other empires, the fate of the habitable planet(s) in the Z
A small asteroid floating in the depths of the void. Adrift in the sea of stars, this space rock, composed of impure iron ore and quartz silicates floating, seemingly oblivious to the massive energy discharges and explosions occuring in and about the planet nearby. Unbeknown to the fleets contesting the fate of the small Kzinti outpost, this small rock was completely artificial in origin. An outer mantle of rock hid a sophisticated listening array and computer controlled by ad
mindbogglingsoulwrenchingdismayjoyscentmetalflowerlibidolinearstarwashTHRUMM! Several medium to smallish fleets of Hegemony ships winked into normal space as they cavitated, shone with a brief burst of luminescence as well as emitting some hard gamma and x-ray radiation. Appearing at the edges of the Zrinj system, each group of ships immediately sent a brief tachyon micropulse to the neighboring fleet, synchronizing their internal clocks and confirming ship status. <
Won't allow me to edit the post - not sure why, it just does it sometimes. Wanted to say I have forgotten much, and am not sure what a "AAR" is. For me this is just fiction with more than a few contributing authors :)
so, this is an AAR using MV empires, right?

Yes, it seems to have become that, although I doubt that was Popcorn Avenger's original intent. I'm having fun with it. Sentient species taste better...
No, I like to write fiction when my Muse is obliging, and my original post was just a "I'm back" message of sorts. Then it escalated when another empire declared us having been wounded by the Kzinti (always very likely, but I'd leave it to them.).
The vessel off the port bow slowly rotating in the blackness of space. A small ship of the Hegemony's Intrepid class, it was a scout ship equipped with an advanced lab well suited to the exploration of the Void, and any of the potentially powerful - or lethal - precursor artifacts scattered here and there about the galaxy. This scout, and a nearby freighter, were fated to do no more exploring. Commander Wilson sighed; their gutted remains were a sad sight, as well as a trophy to
~He stands upon the bridge surveying the empty space about the aging warship. Standing upon the bridge of the Star Warden, a sleek ovoid of the immense Proselyter-class . It's aging hull spoke of the tender carress and kisses of dust and micrometeroids that were ubquitious in the Void. This warship, however, had lost none of its power and little of its impressiveness, due to the demanding r
Spies bollux the production of whatever building you put them on, you can't just plant them as information gatherers. The more spies, and the longer they remain unnullified raises your "espionage level" on that particular race, and increases the odds of stealing technology from them. How I use spies: - Once the early game is in full swing, I allocate at least a minimum amount of credits to create spies. During the game I'll adjust the slider depending on how well I'm
Congratulations fellow HCH members! We shall prove our Logic truly undeniable once we subjugate the Diplomats.
Wow. i'm gonna play WAY more MV games, even though you will never topple the mighty Galactic Diplomats! Our Logic Is Undeniable. Resistance is futile. Your defeat is inevitable. Join us or be annihilated. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/g
"Walk softly and carry a big Plasma Cannon" ? "I'm a Diplomat. Which means that I'm a liar and a cheat, and when I'm not kissing your baby, I'm trying to steal their candy." - from the Hunt for Red October I could come up with better ones, but here's a bunch of famous quotes about Diplomats: Diplomat Quotes <img src="http
This has been an interesting discussion. I've been building Farms on every bonus tile I come across. I've had planets that might have one 300% and two 100% and I've built on them all. I see now that may not be a good idea. I've always wondered what the ideal population limit should be, now I have an idea. Obviously I need to build less Farms, I've been trying for at least 2 per planet. I did the same thing; I had
Well, I was pretty discouraged, this gigantic Painful game I had in the bag, the save crashed right when hitting the Turn button, every trick I tried to get it "over the hump" failed. If I can't play on gigantic that's it for me, competing on the Metaverse is what remains to keep me interested. That said, 1.50X.072 fixed it - that time, that is. Its crashed twice in the last 4 hours or so, which is still a hell of a lot better than once every 4-5 turns. Kudos for the crash fi
I'm in agreement that while I don't want starbases to be invulnerable - protecting them should still be a necessary consideration when creating them - I would like to see a little more "beef" in their offensive/defensive capability. I'm in the middle of a gigantic game at Painful; the tech tree is almost exhausted so that probably gives you an idea of how long I waited until I opened the gun ports and started wiping the Yor out of the galaxy. The primary reason I waited so long was I w
The Super-Diplomat ability has sooo many benefits that go beyond simply getting uber techs for scrap. Just keeping yourself out of wars for one is worth the ability. Not to mention easier Economic/Research treaties (which raise the AI's opinion, also keeping you out of wars more easily). Super-Diplo also lets you speak to the AIs more often (fewer weeks between), and even when AT war you can usually still get council
I think (without verification yet) it affects demanding ECON treaties. Research, money, tech demands work.
Okay, now I'm really smokin'. I'm so fed up with PC's. Exhausted. By "PC"'s I mean personal computers - first the Amiga, then the intel "PC", and even Macs. I've been wrestling with their problems for over two decades now. Always applications that refuse to run, crash, require extraodinary tweakage to get right . . . OS problems. . . . incombatabilities . . . . I'm worn out. You don't have to put up with this crap with other products. If you bought a car, and it had crash pro
I manage to play a few turns but run into more crashes. I'm paranoid, so I not only quicksave it a lot, but also had autosaves set up for every 4 turns. I thought maybe the auto's were killing it, but still crashed when I disabled them. The problem with SDC is unrelated, I should have made two posts. I'm just messing around trying to get it working. The game worked fine, though, until 1.50X2 - very, very rarely did I get a crash. SmartException has about 12 crashes
It affects us Terrans moreso than most, because the strength of the Super Diplomat ability was both in trade and keeping yourself out of wars (until you're ready). We still get above average leverage in trades, yes - but the "average" has been adjusted downwards dramatically. In other words, the nerf affected races globally . . . we still have an advantage, but our ability to trade is greatly compromised, particularly early in the game. <a href="http://thehighcommandhegemony.
