I have it saved now where it causes repeatable crashes immediately after hitting the Turn button. It asks me to upgrade a Influence starbase, I do so, then as soon as it brings up the GNN screen, crash. I can also monitor RAM usage on my keyboard's LCD display, it hovers around 50%, so I don't think I'm running out of memory (I've 2 gigs) ---------------------------------- Okay, this was very odd. Using a trick I read about on the forums, I scrolled to an absolute empty ar

What I'm not sure about is once you've received a trade good whether or not you have the rights to trade the item to someone else. If you do then if you bring up a trade screen with a different race (and they haven't already traded for the item) then the item should show up as something you can trade. It doesn't. Which is why they are great trades, because they don't go any farther than the race you trade them to. I never trade the military ones
Then I realized you can "park" fleets on them, and came to understand that that's part of the strategy - they're precious resources (or mining such) and you must protect them with both fleets and strategic location. They were deliberately designed this way. It's a challenge. Hmmm...but when enemy fleets attack, does the defense fleet get attacked first? Or will the fleet and the SB defend at the same
Well, I've gotten four "0x4fe7725b" exceptions within an hour. This is getting tiresome to say the least . I turned on the hardware mouse, and turned anti-aliasing off and it still crashes. I suppose trying the single GPU mode is next. EDIT: Single GPU mode didn't work, nor did stepping the game resolution down to 1024x768. It failed almost immediately after hitting the Turn button. De
I've seen this also. Immediately after the UP vote I checked the trade route screen and no new routes were opened.
I had SmartException running and "got lucky", the game crashed very quickly into it. I've sent the report to support. In the meantime I'll try the tactics suggested.
This could easily fit into a "What I'd like to see for GalCiv3" thread . . . I like starbases. I love building & upgrading them (versus the "upgrade themselves" wish). I had all kinds of ideas and requests for them, since they don't stand up to enemy fleets very well. Then I realized you can "park" fleets on them, and came to understand that that's part of the strategy - they're precious resources (or mining such) and you must protect them with both fleets and strategic locat
I've had a window pop up that invited me to join the war against their opponents,I think it was related to their Super Organizer ability. Oh, so that's how it works. You could just say no, though, correct? I did. Personally, I haven't seen any AI diplomatic abilities where
Do some abilities work on players? For instance, if you're the Iconians and the Altarians are attacked, are you affected in any way? I've had a window pop up that invited me to join the war against their opponents,I think it was related to their Super Organizer ability. Somewhat related, the best interaction I've seen so far was when I "sneaked" a transport up to
No, using any tiles with population bonuses over 100%, or building more than two farms guarantees morale problems in the future as you approach 20B. The only solution is to build a bunch of morale alleviating buildings (which defeats the purpose, since you want those tiles for banks), or have numerous morale mining sites, galactic wonders, etc, to counterbalance it. You're not missing anything, its the way the game has been for (I understand) several versions. The only time I use thos
I've read the post about the 7950 GX2, but never had any issues with the game to date. The driver's the latest and greatest. I'll remember those tips in the future if the crashes reoccur with any great frequency, thanks.
Heh. Naturally, as soon as I post, both problems go away. I shutdown SDC and, upon restarting it, got an update message. After the update and subsequent restart I logged in fine. Of course, it may simply be intermittent again. Grabbed SmartException and ran it - now the game doesn't crash. Yet. It already has progressed several turns beyond the point it crashed every time. For now a big NEVERMIND I suppose. Otherwise if it reoccurs I'll try to get the proper info ga
I've two problems, the first is a saved game, Gigantic galaxy, that crashes continously 1-2 turns into the game GalCiv2 Dark Avatar v1.50X2 The second problem lies with SDC. I noted in another thread about using SmartException, so I went to grab it, and its not listed, only one demo program is listed under "Free Stuff". This is likely because my login failed. I get intermittent login failures (sometimes it logs in just fine). I'm currently getting one right
Yeah, this doesn't sound like a bug in the game, but in RL. The "S.O. Bug" which keeps one from doing things of real importance - like playing GalCiv2 Sic a virus checker on her! How'd she get past your firewall?
Whoops - appoliges to both Quixen and Marshall - I was typing in a hurry and when I made my post. I meant for the congrats to go to Marshall . Not that yo
I just pretend its an immense, frame-shaped nebula Heh, that might not be a bad idea. Have large nebulae (not THIS size, but, say, 1/2 a parsec) that sensors are ineffective in. Good place to run to if pursued, or even hide a nice big battlefleet ; on the flip side, freighters going through it often g
Anymore I generally conquer worlds with capitals before I build my own. Why?? Don't you want them both? No, I just don't get 'em built in time, LOL. I forget about them, or put it off until I can get that "plum Class 15+" planet to put one on. Then I conquer or flip a planet, and, whoops, too late!
Anymore I generally conquer worlds with capitals before I build my own. That can blow sometimes, like when the AI makes a dumb build with one Tech capital on a Class 4 world filled with industry. That also makes it impossible to build one where I do want it. I don't like the "can't destroy" way they work. C'mon, if I took a bulldozer to it I should surely be able to knock that ECON capital down. About the only thing I can do in that situation is to give the planet to someone
A good show to watch is called "Mental Engineering". Its on the public channel here in the midwest, on Friday nights. Its a panel of folks from various walks of life, professors, comedians, etc, that have fun dissecting commercials. Not so much about whether a commercial is effective versus its sociological roots and impact. Naturally, since they don't accept advertisers they run on a shoestring budget. It's an enlightening show. <a href="http://thehighcommandhegemony.myfastf
Is the 100% bonus from evil a bug, or not? The 100% bonus is a "bug" in the Mind Control Center that has been known for so long that it's apparently left in place as conscious decision by the developers as something necessary to make Evil a playable option. You're kidding, right? Its not like Evil has any other huge perks (like awesome weaponry, free starbase upgrades, wonder to negate invasion costs, or that eth
Ditto. I haven't tried a reload with it, though, when it happens again I will.
The mods don't really like us talking politics here. Officially, we're supposed to take that over to JoeUser or another general-purpose board. Yeah, I read the sticky but forgot about it, easy to do in a rant. My apologies. So I'll change my rant: Anyone familar with the guys that do the incredibly inane Sonic commercials? The tater tot rejector guy? Someone needs to hunt him and Will Ferrel down
I try so hard to be optimistic, and to ignore the inequities of life, its so hard sometimes. "Life is not fair, but just" is cold comfort, particulary when I've got a good tirade going Concerning lawsuits, the Japanese have an interesting law. If you sue someone, and lose, the judge awards them what you sued for. Tends to keep the frivolous lawsuits down and reduce the outrageous amou
It's in Latin, so . . . . . any linguists out there? Words to the DL version: Dreadlords Theme Lyrics
The one-constructor star base is still vulnerable, however. It would suck to have your super-duper fleet have to turn around and fly all the way home because some cheap fighter took out your base. True. I just use 'em to reach galactic resources or establish trade routes. Interesting to see what happens if you establish the latter and the base is destroyed . . . . wonder if all of a sudden you lose a bu
