Before I went on hiatus, the 2.03 TA update didn't fix what I was coining "archeologists". Any planetary spies would be refunded to you when a race goes defunct, but passive spies would remain and continue to gather information levels on that race. You'd loose some spies this way. How about 1 last espionage hug?

I have yet to check out the new patch to see if they fixed this in 2.03. Perhaps some day I should boot gc2 back up.

Also a note about race-wide spies. Pull them off a race that is about to die off if at all possible. There is a current bug that will not let them return to the pool once the race dies out. And if you got plenty of game left, you'll even go up in intel levels since those spies are still placed on the dead race. I prefer to call them 'archeologists' at this point. I do. It's a product they are trying to phase out. However, you fall into a niche they didn't support on their new product. Due to the IE7 requirement for Impulse... I agree with Neilo...give in and join the dark side.

Actually, via the cheat system you should be able to recreate this easily. Plant a spy on a planet that is about to flip to an opponent, then swap to that opponent's race and save the game. Make sure the planet will be flipping by making it deep in their influence aura.

Go 1% mil, 49% soc, 50% research. Then focus your planets. At least then you got a 50:50 ratio. The other option is the "All-X" strategy. Check out the strat forum and look for that. Essentially it's just building one type of building, only putting the sliders to that type of spending and then focus planets to the other when need be.
