Now that they have a thread all to themselves Well, it looks more like a "propaganda"-style thread than anything else. If they have been taking notes from the forums all along, and they have tons and tons of ideas for GC3, I really don't see the point of such a thread. Except to get players talking that is. All of it has already been repeated countless times. PQ1 planets becoming very good planets is weird. Doesn't really make much sense. Maybe

In that case, make your point again. Less sarcasm, more clarity. Do I really have to? Wasn't it quite clear? The date is largely for flavor purposes. It's like turn of the century books which have us flying the stars by 2025. Obviously that's not going to happen. What are you saying, it doesn't make sense? Heh. Anyways, it *is* GalCiv we're talking about, and there are space stations already, so another

Yup. Galactic space battles and the colonization of the galaxy are way beyond anything we have that it's purely fantasy. Once you get that far out, anything goes. 2178~2225 is hardly "so far in the future", that's what I meant. It depends on what you meant by "really living." Are inmates in prisons "really living?" What about Japanese salarymen who essentially live in little cubicles day in and day out? People have li

Sorry. I'll get to you in a few days. As long as it's for GalCiv related stuff. The realm of scifi coevered by GalCiv2 is so far in the future that there needs no real scientific reason for these things to exist. So far in the future? They're sent people to live in orbit, but not to live on the Moon or Venus. I take it one is easier than the other. Are p

But there's a difference. Saying that the game isn't great and saying that one does not like the game particularly aren't the same thing. The former implies at least some bit of general applicability and objectivity, whereas the latter is specifically only a personal dislike of the game. I know you read the conclusion of one of my latest posts, so I'm not even going to comment this... You're criticizing GalCiv2 for a f

The logistics are limited because of the fact that you have to re-supply the ships. This may be difficult in space, but If the ships are orbiting it shouldn't be much of a problem. So why don't you give the defenders unlimited logistics? Because if normally logistics shouldn't be a problem, during a battle it will be for sure. Resupply takes time and resources.

See, I can accept your saying that the game's flavor is simply not your cup of tea - that's fine. But saying that the game is only so-so FOR EVERYONE (or ABSOLUTELY) because it doesn't meet your personal standards of flavor... ...well, doesn't that strike you as a little much? And where do I say FOR EVERYONE? If I need to put IMO in all sentences I write, my posts will exceed yours in length <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Wink.gif

The Korath are evil to the extreme. They desire extermination of all life besides them. The Drengin simply desire dominance over all life. But both are evil. How's that for a radical change? Quote from DL: "The Drengin are cruel, evil race bent on exterminating all those in their path."

But how many Blizzard expansions were pretty much based on player feedback and requests? Seems to me, most of what is in DA was pretty much brought about from this forum and the people who made suggestions. But it could just be me. This can have at least 2 other interpretations. The base game is lacking in several aspects for the majority of players; and the devs didn't have such a strong view of what the game should be like after all - like with MP, ca

I don't see why it's unusually absurd. All 4x games are the same. You use libraries and universities to research - Hoplites?!?!? Huh? Metallurgy is discovered in foundries and smiths, not libraries, and military discipline is founded in armies and military installations. It's absurd, but it's reasonable, too. Thing is, here you have *one* entity, labs. Space age labs. nd again the Civ examples. Hoplites didn't have any special metal or weapons that were

Even "space cannons" are fundamentally unlike any weapon we have on Earth, despite the superficial similarities to guns. Just think about it. Every time you fired one, your ship would go back the other way. Does it really make sense to have it as a weapon? If it is, it's probably unlike anything we know of as a "gun." Recoil? Ever heard of gauss guns? "Other" games call them railguns, space cannons is another "childish" description so common in this game

It I wanted to count beans, I'd balance my taxes. Which reminds me, I have to do just that GalCiv2's model is different, but not any the less "realisitic" or "dumb" for all that. That's where we disagree. Compared to other games of the same *specific* genre, it is. And yet

Indubitably, space stations are not limited to orbital locations, Just like they're not limited to "deep space" stations I hope that I make it clear enough which ones are taste-based and which one are not. Yep, but you do understand that it makes it a bit hard to discuss things when you switch from one to the o

Perhaps you can point to specific literature that refers to orbital bound platforms as "Starbases?" As far as I know, "Starbases" only refer to installations that are or have the capability to function independently of specific planets. Sure. Star Trek. You can search for "starbase" in the Wikipedia and it'll read, among other things: Many sci-fi series use the idea of starbases in their story lines, most notable of which is Star Trek, which

Game balance. Oh, that kind of support. Well, I think there is some exageration as to SD being the best in that kind of support. I personally don't see it that way. I mean, them being so much better than everybody else. I prefer not to comment that. Well, purporting to know the tastes of a whole populace is even more "arrogant" than knowing just my personal tastes. Even so, I also provided that it may not be "arrogant

Likewise for carriers. In every film or action space-opera I've ever watched, space combat involving fighters largely involved them essentially functioning like late WW2 fighters on late WW2 carriers. Would this even work in space? Heck, MODERN REAL carrier/fighter combats aren't like that at all. You see the enemy on the radar, you lock on, then you fire the missile. The cannons on fighters are largely backup weapons. Of course you're talking atmosphere

The game is played with starships and plasma weapons, or some analog of the same. All galactic games of the sci-fi genre are of this sort. All of it is absolutely fantastic and completely fictional. Each is tailored to a specific sentiment or general intellectual persuasion that makes each "believeable" depending on your particular viewpoint about the future of space travel. A game, then, becomes "realistic" to you depending on whether it agrees with your particular se

It's not that I'm sinking, it's just that you have nothing better to do on the weekend, and that amuses me. I see you have toned down your attitude Good. Still, after abuse come personal attacks. How predictable. Have nothing else to go on, huh? Anyways, like me apparently lots of people around here have nothing to do on their weekends, I guess they're al

MOO2 has not had any game approach its dominance until the appearance of GalCiv2 and that means that it bears relevance, regardless of when it was released. That's a matter of opinion really. For example, in my opinion, GC2 is good (that was never in dispute), but it's not great. Too many "details" prevent it from reaching such status. I'm not saying other games in the genre are better or have no flaws, nope. But that's not the point. <div class

It’s nice to see that Titan of Steel took some time off of his busy weekend social schedule to reply. Kind of sad, though... one would think he could have found something better to do on the weekend. We’ll just leave that alone for now. Heh, glad to see you back and sinking deeper with each reply. Still no good arguments, huh? What is it that you're doing replying to me, again? Nothing else to do? Why don’t you break

Yes, you can say an entire race is evil. So you mean an Arian (Indo-European) guy trying to exterminate a particular group of Semites automatically makes all Indo-Europeans evil? But wait, there are also really really "good" people that are Indo-European... The Drengin Empire, the Korath Clan are very very evil. The latter mor

Ouch, you cut, I bleed. At least you're polite, which is a considerable achievement for one of your mental faculties. Maybe, MAYBE, someday you'll get there. While you try really hard to become a decent human being, why don't you start reading the dictionary? Learn a few new words and stuff. Might do you some good. Broaden your horizons and all. Yes, there is logic to it. A 10 from 5 years ago is not as good as a 10 to
