Or split production altogether. Factories produce social improvements, a (new) line of starport improvements (or a new shipyard facility project line) produce ships.

I do question the fact noone caught on to the weak texts early on and handled it pre-release. Yep, when the budget was higher. The problem *now* is the budget, what was it then? AFAICT, it must have taken what, 5 min to come up with say the extreme planets text descriptions? The problem isn't it not getting caught, it's obvious, it's nothing was done when it should have. It's not a problem in the updates, that's what it's being passed as.

Most of our budget (at least 90% of it) goes into updates that are adding new features and content, not fixes. Like what? Can you provide some examples? Real new features and content in updates. As released, GalCiv II and Dark Avatar were very solid (especially compared to other titles). I really cannot think of any significant bugs that have been fixed in Dark Avatar (certainly nothing requireing a patch). </d

I realize a few people see community particpiation as a cynical "free work" type thing. Not really. By definition, it is free work. But the problem is how *you* see things and the way they're presented here in the forums. Honesty? I don't think so. To me it feels more like it's either naive or simply a marketing act. But let's be honest here, we're talking about free updates. Really? Technically, patc

Careful guys, the thread-jacking police is watching (grin) Officer Pavlov K9 is around, and taking notes. This is improper behavior for a forum. Heheh. Anyways, the AI has always been the strong selling point for this game. If it is not playing by the same rules as the human player, wether you call it cheating or not (remember that an AI doesn't have any intention, the programmer does), you can't really say it plays fair. I guess it's a matter of perception. Players think/thought tha

The Food Distribution Center increases the pop limit on a planet (which depends on the initial colony/civ capital + farms). You get a 25% increase on the base max pop. The Fertility Clinic increases the pop growth rate (which depends on current pop, morale, racial ability, check the wiki for the formulas).

The problem here is will they trust the person doing the editing enough to make the files official? It's a risk. Even with a changelog, it'll take them enough time to check it to make me have some reservations about this. That's why this should be done by someone in the team, or someone close and trustworthy - a veteran preferably. Not questioning anyone's skills, it's just the reasonable way to do things.

It is a medium hull, and you don't have that tech either. It also has advanced support, which you also don't have. In fact, you don't have almost all of the techs.

Heheh. This whole environment and related techs sounds like a rush job, and ultimately shows an incredible lack of creativity. This could have been a very interesting new feature, but it turned out to be just another source of the good old cheese. The thing with the aquatic environment is that it shouldn't really be a special environment - these should be the ones that required a domed colony. Ra

I am fairly new to this game, so I can't help but wonder what was the driving force that turned such a simple thing into a complicated formula requiring square roots of this and rolls of dice and if this and if that. I think they were trying to be different. It turned out to be an unrealistic and senseless system though. It also doesn't help that they went overboard with the weapons descriptions, like using warp fields in battle and black holes, which ca

A few ideas were thrown around some time ago. Best was big battles leaving debris/anomalies. And yes, the initial flagship does go against the rules, which is very lame. That should be another "strategic" option; if you want to go for the anomalies' money early, research sensors. Rush-buying doesn't help either, you need money for that, and the best source the game offers initially is anomalies. The game has a too fast start IMO, and these things are there to promote it.

Alright I have now figured out whatever you say to ToS Iceman he doesn't really read. He just comes up with a reply instantly to dispute it, no matter if it makes sense or not. Don't bother replying to him. It is a waste of your time. You mean, you were wrong. If you can't keep up, sure it's a waste of time. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/B

Off topic: You don't think a system of 3 seperate branches that put checks and balances on each other with a constitution that can be added to was a new system of government in 1776? Sorry, forgot to reply to this one. Last time I checked, he had little to do with that really. Care to elaborate? If the American system was not a new form of government I don't know what was. It was actually based

The battle system still works as it did before. Hmm, before this fix you didn't have to degrade both off-type defenses. Now you do, which makes them stronger. Especially at low values when opponent has all types of defense. So when opponent has the on-type defense, you don't have to degrade (both) the off-types? Isn't there the risk of NOT having the on-type defense but having the other two types actually being better (than having the on-type)?

Now its constantly in 100% in something each turn hehe. Well, maybe you should read the thread(s) about it to find out what exactly the "exploit" is. Sorry to those who want to read something related to this thread. I was going to ignore you, but at the request of many families, I'll give you some atte

DA defenses have never rolled; Incorrect: WWW Link As per the example, there's no r/p/s system anymore. Any defense is as good as any other to defend against a certain weapon type. No reason for the 3 weapon types anymore. The example doesn't clarify what happens when there is the right defense, in terms of if the other defenses will be decreased also before the hul

I don't care what the other threads say. I meant that the 2D map and movement rules issues have been addressed in other threads. It was in the following of "I don't hear anyone...". You explain to me the rational by which movement range is in a square but sensor range is circular and follows the Pythagoream thoerem with regards to distance. Do I have to? Hmm. Because ships can only occupy a parsec,

It doesn't really matter, since the entire concept of research is abstracted. Technically, how comes the same factories can produce both interstellar vessels and sports stadiums? How comes the same lab can research high energy weapons, medicine and recreation? ALL concepts are abstracted, not just research. Still some of them are unique to the corresponding buildings. As for the factories, that you should ask the devs really <img src="http://images.sta

Tourism depends on 2 things. Galactic population, and the % of the area of the map you control (your area of influence). Each 1 billion pop generates 1 bc; you get your influence % of the total tourism $ generated in the galaxy. As for starbases, if they extend your AoI, they'll increase your tourism revenue. That increase might not be worth the 5 bc maintenance though.

Yes. Desktop enhancement and game development are two different things. Really?! Never noticed that... Seriously though, EA is a huge game development (or publishing) company, but if they would put five or six people on desktop enhancement, they would be small in that regard, too. Would you see it as a small co

Strange, not being fun writing the texts for the game. They're an integral part of the game. Not sure if this should be taken as the only fun part in developing this game is only adding stuff, even if it is superficial, inaccurate, or poorly documented. Not saying it's always the case. Feels more like a project than a game really, with these words from Frogboy. I don't think those words were really helpful in convincing anyone into editing the texts either, they somewhat showed a lack of interes

If you seek a narrow minded, single purpose game, then by all means, create a crack staff of dedicated beta testers. Perhaps they should adopt similar programs to many of the gaming companies out there... Yes, I'm sure all those games out there (which is most of them BTW), are narrow minded, single purpose games. I bet this is the only game you play, right?

How many Ambassadors do you know who've come up with entirely new lines of government? And how many labcoats do YOU know that did just that? In terms of proximity, which one do you think makes more sense? Notice why I gave that example. The problem with talking about a fantasy background is anything can be made to make
