Food distribution centers

Can someone tell me what these food distribution centers are good for. I havent built one yet. Does it just increase the pop cap again? I already don't research the last farm tech to keep planets from over populating.

It increases food production, which is different from the population cap. The cap is determined by the size of the planet. The amount of food produced depends on the planet's colony type, farm level, and food distribution centers. A guide to the planetary cap can be found here in the GalCiv2 wiki. Be careful with the wiki information, though, it hasn't been updated since the game came out.

I have no problems with building up to advanced farms. A planet with one advanced farm (13 bil. population max) and one virtual reality center should have no problems even with high taxes. Just remember to build only one farm, don't use the farm tiles, and don't build farms on home planets that already have a 12 bil. limit and you'll do just fine.

Spore. When you absolutely, positively got to kill every motherfrakker in the galaxy. Accept no substitutes.

These seem to be useful on your transport planets so you can quickly replenish your supply of troops for the peace keeping missions you send them on. Of course if I'm wrong someone will point this out to me. HeeHeeHee

Thnks, but i still don't see what building one does for me. What does having more food DO? Faster population increase? So how would that differ from the fertility clinic?

And why would the Yor, robots, have a fertility clinic?

The Food Distribution Center increases the pop limit on a planet (which depends on the initial colony/civ capital + farms). You get a 25% increase on the base max pop.
The Fertility Clinic increases the pop growth rate (which depends on current pop, morale, racial ability, check the wiki for the formulas).

Placing one advanced farm and one food distro center on a planet gives you a pop limit just under 20 billion in most cases. If memory serves, usually about 16 billion though I sometimes got 19 billion pop. It could be argued that the space is better spent on a stock market or something else, but if you're like me and pretty lazy about keeping all your planets guarded, it helps a little when enemy transports slip through.

Hi!
Be careful with the wiki information, though, it hasn't been updated since the game came out.

That exact page you pointed on was recently updated, and is stil not finished. There are some strange pop growth "readings" in DA 1.6 beta5 that need to be tested. At first look I'd say the pop growth formula has changed.

Thats my understanding. Its just the next step up in farming. BasicFarm ---> XenoFarm -----> SomeOtherFarm ----> Food distribution thing
