Am I the only one or does the map editor, on the sticky post, work really bad? Ive tried many times to create a map and when I select it and start GC II always crash to the desktop. Ive added homeworlds for all the races so what is the problem?

Depending on what is most important for you then this game can the best 4X game currently. However you should be aware of a few things. 1. There is no tactical combat, none. Combat is decided by attack points, defence points and hps. There are no special weapons or anything that Moo2 had and you have no control whats so ever. 2. Ground combat is also not tactical with no control and just a small window showing two sides approaching and shooting at each other. And it al
Where are those polls? I have yet to see the results of any polls. How was it formulated? Because I find it extremely unlikely that in this year of internet gaming a majority of people would NOT want to play a game over the internet. So by we I mean people who like to have an option to play against real people rather than computer algorithms and I would bet good money that would be more than just me. Besides what is your problem? This thread was put sticky f
For good multiplayer support and better combat (like in Sword of the Stars (SotS)) I would pay the equivalence of 40 US dollars. GC II is truly a great game but it is lacking in tactical combat and multiplayer support and those are the only reasons Im playing SotS instead of GC II right now. On a different note, what would be the point of carriers, besides the cool factor, in GC II? There is no tactical combat and all weapons has the same range and the combat starts with the sh
Thanks for the reply, but I dont want to just look at them. So to clarify, Im wondering if there is a way to IMPORT .X models into 3DsMax, possibly change then and then EXPORT it back. The exporting I already have a plugin for, but not for the importing...
I wanted to import the models Ive made in the game to a 3D modeler program like 3DsMax but there doesnt seem to be an option to import .X models. Anyone know how that can be done? I tried using Blender to load and then convert the model to a format that 3DsMax can read but then I seem to lose the textures.
One thing thats for sure, I hope GC2 stays Single player. Ive been playing Civ for a while and always wanted to see empires split off, alliances made and broken, religious wars, powerful nations cumbling or split from one single event and now several civilizations stand. I see events like this happen all the time in GC2. mostly from evil civilizations. my only com
Ah very nice but can you be more specific please. First step is to find a ship from some "other game" and then somehow import it to a 3d model program. How is this done? Are the models stored as files in some "other game" and I just load the file, which is in some format, and import it in the modeler program? The second step, put on dummies. What does that mean, why is this step needed and how is it done? Third step seems pretty straightforward, just export t
Hi, I was pretty sure I made a similar post like this one a few days ago but I cant find it and its not in My Posts listing. Was it removed for some reason?? Anyway I have a couple of questions regarding how you import ship models from shows like Star Trek, B5 etc? Ive played both of the mods for this game and the ships are very similar to the ones in the show. Have someone created them from scratch with a 3D modeler program or have they used some other models as base? <br/
Ok time for a newbie question (even though Ive had the game for two months): Who are the Dread Lords? Im guessing they are like Antarans in Moo2 and will pop up to give all civilizations a good beating but so far I havent seen them. May be because Ive quit games I knew I would win and I didnt have the patience to conquer every single planet. So how do I trigger them to show up?
I wonder how many of the playerbase would want an expansion with only multiplayer added or the upcoming Dark Avatar. Personally I dont care much for the stuff added for Dark Avatar, it will still be basically the same game playing against AIs. Would much rather want to play against people all around the world.
Tactical combat can be on several different levels. One is ofcourse an all out tactical combat element like you see in RTS games and that would need a really good AI to be a challengeto veteran players and Im not even sure if there is such an AI for a game like this. However you could add other things to give the player some kind of control and make combat multidimensional and that could be different formations depending on what situation you are in, for example you could use protectiv
Hm, "no tactical battles because AI cant perform as well as human" actually makes sense to me but cant that be said about every part of a game? But as I said it makes sense since Ive yet to play a RTS where the AI was a challenge to me unless they outnumbered you greatly. But wont you have that problem in Sins of Solar empire aswell, since that game is mostly a tactical game? Or it seems to be anyway, havent played it yet as Im waiting for my pre order beta <img src="
Anyone tried this game? I bought it and I must say that GC II beats it in every department except in one crucial thing and that is tactical combat. The tactical element in that game is very rich with even a possibility to target specific parts of ships. Why is GC IIs tactical combat part so poor? I mean all that matters is number of hps, attack points and defense point with no way to influence the outcome of the combat in any other way. Heck even MOO 2 had richer tacti
In my first game I built quite a powerful military starbase with beam weapons and defence and all that but it just stands there idly and doing nothing while enemy ships destroy my colonies and ships. Do I have to activate it or something?
Thanks for the reply! Evil Muppet: I already have bought it. Even though I dont expect to play it very long Im a big fan of these kind of games and when one is so well done I usually buy it just to support the very few developers for spending their time to develop these kind of games instead of just another 3D shooter or RTS game which doesnt need half a brain to play. Tototot: Multiplayer may very well be very challenging but, being a programmer myself, playing against co
No game released 2004 or later can be great without a multiplayer option. This is the age of internet and any game developer that wants to be part of the future has to have support for playing over internet. Without it this game, even though it is great, will fall into oblivion. No matter how you twist and turn it, playing against a real human being is always more exciting and fun than playing against some computer algorithms. Heck even chess is more fun against real peo
Hi, I just discovered this game and it seems very cool as I was a fan of MOO II, years back. Anyway, no game without multiplayer last more than a couple of weeks for me, even MOO II quickly got boring in single player and I played that game for months in multiplayer mode. So Im wondering if there is any official word for the probability of a multiplayer expansion. I know there is a sticky post about this but the original post was made 9 months ago and I dont have the time to si
