How do you IMPORT .X models?

I wanted to import the models Ive made in the game to a 3D modeler program like 3DsMax but there doesnt seem to be an option to import .X models.

Anyone know how that can be done?

I tried using Blender to load and then convert the model to a format that 3DsMax can read but then I seem to lose the textures.

wait wait, you used what to export to X? you need plug-ins to export and import from X to X. but more likely I thought your problem is to covert to X... but you seem to say that your problem is to covert from X?...

there is a program that can show you X files but nothing more. I found in the game folder a lot of models that are not used in the game. here is a link:

Thanks for the reply, but I dont want to just look at them. So to clarify, Im wondering if there is a way to IMPORT .X models into 3DsMax, possibly change then and then EXPORT it back. The exporting I already have a plugin for, but not for the importing...

The only 3ds import plugin I have had luck with is Xporter - as per this old thread.

you just can import the given meshes, with the x-import/export tool, but not for 3ds max. In 3ds max you just can export into x-file, with the panda plugin,

The ships you made in game, were just config files which know which parts are connected to each other, there is no possibility to import your shipdesigns.

The only way you get your ships into 3ds max, is to import all parts(meshes) from the gfx/models directory and put them manual together in 3dsmax. but then you won't have textures and have to retexture it again or browse the texture path when rendering for testing, a very difficult way but 99% the only one.

hope this could help,
