The problem with individual tech trees so far is that the ai trade their own tech tree for that of other races(using the system in star trek and alternate reality for example). Then they just start researching their opponents tech tree as well as their own, which stunts growth.

i think the report tab is vital for alliances but one i always get is "militeristic" does this mean they dont like me beacause i am or they are militaristic or am i missing the point. By the way tributing money can help you. In 1.2 i went from neutral to friendly with a race by giving them a wad of cash, but this only works to an extent with good races.
love the mod i used to watch trek a bit but the quality of your work makes it a must download anyway. id be playing it right now if it wasn't for some of the invisible ships in the first release. live long and prosper.
by the way i bumped because i was unshure of why bump was written on all the posts and wanted to see if posting a reply puts you higher up on the recent post list.
i have to say i sympathise with stormbringer, i realise that the dev team here are alot more active than those of some of the larger game manufacturers, EA comes to mind, but since ive been playing the game i have found tons of glitches that realy put me off playing. I also feel a bit ripped off that some of the features promised in galciv2 are not only unavailable but that i need to purchase an expansion pack to get them eg.destabalisation. Overall i was pleasently suprised with this
thanks
Ive researched alliances but for some reason this game dosnt allow me to even click on the button, it normally works fine, btw ive also given the tech to everyone and our relations are friendly.
Ive not played any higher, or lower than tough and i almost always win but i tend to do it differently to you guys. I always prolong developing my military or military techs until i have some real enemies as you can be sure everyone is too busy too research all the invasion techs. This ensures that when i need a force i can pump it out with all my latest techs. If there is a dominant race on the map the way i remove him is to take out the smaller races first, as they are too weak to all
Thanks shadowmaster, Thats exactly what i think ,it would be nice if the fighters could engage in dogfights rather than just wriggling in any direction whilst the turrets do all the work. The anti fighter weapons vs "hull ripper" weapons idea might make espionage more viable as you can scout an enemy fleet of dreadnaughts being prepared to invade and send in a strike force of mass fighters to leave it in ruins before they are at full strength.(sort of like pearl harbour). The h
What i was getting at was that larger ships would have to use different weapons in order to stay balanced, eg some huge mass drivers for making holes in big ships and some lasers for dealing with smaller ships. This could lead to more than one line of research in each weapon catagory, for example the missile catagory could split mid way into those with big warheads and those which are quick and clever. Equally the laser tree could end in the doom ray and maybe a lighter anti fighter sys
Actually ive recently seen more specialised hulls in alternate reality mod but im not sure that it works properly. As far as the other ideas go id say they are only possible by redesinging some core files. The main thing id like to happen is for the smaller designs to play a role later in the game so that fleets have to be balanced and battles look like they are real.
He's right, like i said before, the draw allowed the ai to keep the planet but damage was still done to quality.
After playing for a while i started to become bored with the battle system, it seemed so unvaried with three attack varients and three defences. Although i personally think that direct control in the battles is going too far it would be better to see fleets doing more than wobbling so heres some suggestions. Firstly it would be nice if a race could have the option of specializing in different hull sizes rather than just rushing to build the biggest quickest. For
I read a post once from someone asking whether a failed invasion would result in the loss of planet quality, and the answer was no of course but recently i invaded a planet and it produced a perfect draw 0-0. As you might expect the invasion screen said "invasion foiled" and i didn't get the planet but strangely enough i recieved some dialouge afterwards saying that the quality of the "captured" planet had been reduced (due to the invasion tactic). I would of put th
The minor races have normal ai but cant use colony ships. This basically makes them unable to fight competitively in a normal game but to compensate they have a 100% economy bonus. This means that if you give them an extra planet early on they will not only be able to keep up but their extra economy bonus should give them an advantage. Id be interested in how you could manipulate them effectively in game though. You'd have to ally early on whilst your still stronger but by
