Not doing a colony rush and just planning on invading worlds is dumb and will get you killed on the higher dificulties
I respectfully, and strongly, disagree sir. I play the vast majority of my games on suicidal, and it does work. I have several AARs throughout this site that I did over the last year and a half where I illustrate how to play this way. It works for map sizes up to large. For larger map sizes I have done it, but it is just easier to build a few
Would you mind explaining why you would do this? Were I in such a scenario, I would still think it worthwhile it to colonize the second planet, even if I don't build anything on it for a while.
I do the same thing, and while I don't know MottiKhan's reasons, I know my own. First, the colony ship is a cheap invader. When looking to quickly create a fleet of transports, the cheaper the better, especially if playing all labs. The space miner and initial colony shi
How about all PC games will be written in 8086 assembly code and will boot from their own floopy without any OS installed on the machine at all. Now *that* would be good news.
I'm with you here. I would pay good money to be able to buy a NEW computer that could still run my copies of Wing Commander IV and XCom - Threat Unknown. And Mechwarrior: Mercenaries, now that I think about it. ~ Wyndstar

I'm also on the MVC. Really, it doesn't seem like there are major issues that we need to address at the current time however... and the improvements Stardock has coming down the pipe for TA solve several of the concerns other people had. My guess is that the MVC will actually have plenty to do in about a year, when the interest in TA is starting to fade and GalCiv II starts to have less of an active following. Nothing in here seems serious. ~ Wyndstar

Two quick points: 1) I only tested the latest patch on suicidal. Results are skewed for that difficulty. 2) I only play with tech trading off. Only with tech trading off do I feel that I can properly gauge the strengths and weaknesses of each Race's specific tech tree. Q1 - any races too strong? The Terrans actually feel a little strong to me, whether as a player or when the AI controls them. They get all the advantages of the old tech tree, plus a few new tec

Good game neilo, I only tried once, but my hats off to you for doing this. I had problems getting enough population for my troops, even using mass drivers on invasions. With no Super Abilities I lost the ability to use spore ships, and it left me with a breeding problem... ~ Wyndstar

Ah, but I DID forget to submit it. Thanks for the reminder: Meh. I'm pretty sure I could do better, but I'm not going to try this one 20 times to see my best. I only had a single +300% tile the whole game... Still, its one win down for my team. ~ Wyndstar

Well, if anyone from Team B stops by here - I just posted some info for us in our private forum... so check there please. ~ Wyndstar

# of opponents does not effect score, sadly. You are graded on several things, but they are what YOU produce. Your tech production, your population, your income, your social production, your hp totals, your weapon totals... etc. There are no bonuses for beating multiple enemies, other than with more planets you can get more pop. ~ Wyndstar

Well, it is easier with spore, but not necessary. Neither of my AARs with zero year wins use spore, but neither is very high scoring. To read my YZW AAR for TA, read the first post here: https://forums.galciv2.com/172337 To read my YZW AAR for DL, read here starting with my reply #312: https://forums.galciv2.com/173068/page/13 I've never done an AAR for DA, or spore ships. Its easier than the two I did AARs for, though. Hope that helps,<br/

Wow, well I'm honored to be considered a possibility for the first draft pick... but you should think about the larger picture. I've only been on team B for two rounds and in that time we have gone from second to last right down to actually last place. I may not be as much of an advantage as you think. Team B seems to be largely absent from our private forum, which doesn't help much. I don't really want to be the new captain, because I like the flexibility to be able to play
The way the code is set up is that it will try to pull records for just the selected tournament. If it can't find any, then it just pulls the top scores so that there is still something in the list.
Well, there seem to be problems for me in both areas. First, in game. From the beta there are now 4 different tournaments I can select. If I select Rock and a Hard Place for instance and choose to play, in the lower left section of the screen I do get 10 "scores".
+ NEW: Tournament, Altaria Resists + NEW: Tournament, Arcea’s Last Stand + NEW: Tournament, Drengin Gambit
This is great. Are you going to have somewhere where you list the scores for each Tournament Scenario? It seems like all of them are currently getting mixed on the High Scores section, and the scenarios are all not equal in the scores you can get out of them. It would be nice to see a just "Rock and a Hard Place" and just a "Dreng

Well, I won't be doing any drafting... I'm not a captain. But I'm a little more opposed to the idea of a franchise player. That seems to promote less of a mix. Just have two draft picks per team. If there is someone you really want, pick them first. My input, ~ Wyndstar

The "explored" area shows up if you choose "blind exploration" on the initial game setup. Otherwise the entire map is displayed right from the start. To the top right of the minimap are a list of icons that can toggle what your mini-map displays. One of the icons looks like three overlapping circles. Clicking on this will show each empire's area of influence within the area you have explored. Hope that helps, ~ Wyndstar
I also went good quickly to save 60 BC/turnn on upkeep and for the diplomatic bonus with the drath, iconian and torian empires. Evil would have been preferable, but I couldn't afford to zero out my treasury
Yeah, this was a good idea. I thought about it, but never tried it. Generally when I got to XE with the Altarians in the games I did with them, I checked my economy to see what bonus I would get with the MCC, and it always seemed to pay for itself and more even when
This rule has been added to the MVL Rulebook under the heading of Honor System Addendum and reads as follows.
Fair enough. But that is a new rule for the next round. I carefully read the rules before I pulled my reloading game, and nothing covered the case of infinite reloads. Personally, I will just never do it again. I can't imagine I'll ever want to shave off two turns to a formula so badly again, and it turned GalCiv II from a fast-paced, exciting puzzle g

Yes, well, given Iztok's comments, and the fact that the round is over, I should probably talk about how I finally, finally managed that one year win (and then the two followup fast one year wins). I had many of the same problems with balancing a need for money and military while smashing out research. I was finally able to get it down to a science with the Korx, by using traders early to keep people off of my back so that I could conquer two empires unmolested, plus the Korx start off

Yeah, I agree that it shouldn't be released until it is finished. Stardock, for all of their success, is still a rather small company. And Frogboy takes a lot on his shoulders. Looking at his posts over the last few weeks across all sites, it is pretty clear that he is currently focused on Sins. That makes sense, it is a new game for them, and they want to get out of the gate strong with that project. I'm sure we will get TA eventually, and probably even a new beta before th

5. Yes, the AI spends all of their ability points. You do not "cheat" or give yourself any advantage over the AI when you spend yours. In DA, if you play against custom opponents, you get to "set" the ability points that will be used by the AI, and it will stick with your choices. However, on even higher difficulty levels the AI actually gets more than the base 10-15 you have access to. In this case the AI will spend these extra points as it sees fit. Hope that helps, ~
