I'll just say again that I like trading for other races' unique techs. Not all of them, by any means, but it is something cool about the specific game I am playing that I have the chance to develop a set of techs that I can only get from other races. It adds to the uniqueness and fun for me. So anyway, I'm against "no trading for unique techs."
In my experience, the AI fields its own designs rather than the core designs that everyone gets. Indeed. I don't think I've ever seen an AI build a stock ship more than 20 turns into a game - every ship they build is a custom design of one sort or another. If anything, they design new ships and upgrade entirely too often. I occasionally blitz an AI when I find a good chunk of their fleet helplessly upgrading on my doorstep.<b
I knew there was one more request: 5. Make a few more default ships, in particular, for the early game. Not only would this be handy, it would help make the AI better, since the AI would be more likely to use the tactics we use... The ability to make custom ships is t
Dark Avatar is required to play this one isn't it? So how have you managed to play this one without having the last one? He could have just not ever played DA. Played DL until just now and picked up the DA/TA pack.
Exactly. I actually played DA once a week ago and then tried the Beta and never went back. And I agree that the Kyrnn's special ability is rather lame too (although I
This is my first expansion for Gal Civ 2 -- I completely skipped the last one. I love the way the expansion is going. Anyway, here are the places where I would like change: 1. I really love playing on planets with special bonuses -- it makes the worlds feel more unique and interesting to me. In fact, having boring planets is by far the leading reason for me to restart the game. I would like a slider on the initial screen to increase (or decrease) the special bonus squares. <br/
I don't entirely disagree. However, I like that sometimes there is some really cool tech and only one guy has it and the only way I can get it is to be friendly towards him and offer him something really good. So perhaps some more of the unique techs should not be tradable, but not all of them. What if almost all of the tradable unique techs were "we do not want to trade this right now unless we great a great deal." That would make them attainable to someone who has an interesting plan
I've just been getting back into the game. I really like the direction this expansion is taking -- I always felt like what the races needed was more individual flavor. Anyway, I have been playing as the Iconians and for a very long time I couldn't add more than one +X% to research/economy/production module to my starbases. I think I was only able to once I traded for some technology (I couldn't tell which one, since I had just traded for a number). Am I right that the Iconians can't do
I would like to occasionally see some long term advantages to doing the good thing. If you save some bit of the local flora or fauna, occasionally that should have some medical benefit (plus to population or ground combat). Or if you save some insignificant race, they should occasionally give you a big gift in gratitude. Similarly, occasionally doing the bad thing should occasionally backfire -- wiping out the insectoid race destroys the ecosystem, reducing planet quality by %50 or some such.
Okay, so maybe the game isn't broken, but I, for one, think it could use some more character. The races all feel really generic to me. That said, I think it is a good game but it could be improved, no doubt. Anyway, even if it is the best game in the world that doesn't mean they shouldn't try to improve it. The idea of turning off the unique powers sounds like a reasonable one to me. That way it wouldn't break anything in a permenant way -- just turn it off if you don't
I would like some ability to make strategic choices about the battle (but I wouldn't want a realtime tactical battle). Perhaps something like: retreat, cautious (lower randomness, some loss of combat ability), normal, aggressive, risky plan, kamakazi. -- David
So on a couple of posts (including one of mine) there's been talk of giving races unique abilities. I think it would be good to brainstorm about possibilities. I'll lsit a couple -- hopefully people will add others/motifications. Yor: somehow factories produce population and they have no farms. Perhaps they could have an additional slider on the economy screen for what percentage of the factories are going towards population. Iconians: Dedicated to scholarship: they can
I think the AI is quite good in a lot of respects. I certainly find the game more challenging than Civ 4. But there are some quirks so I'm pointing them out. One thing I like is that it seems the developers really want feedback from us. -- hintikka
I admit the invasion is worse than the planet map. I think a good still picture of a land invasion -- or perhaps a sequence of frames -- would be much better. What I would like for the planet map -- or somewhere on the planet screen -- is something more evocative of the planets. Is this a jungle planet? Give the planets more personality. Right now I'm likely to think of the planet as that number 12 in the corner. I'd rather think of it as the place where I have research parks bu
In my most recent game the Arcean were in the lead (in a painful game) and in good shape for an influence win. I was heading for a technological win. The strange thing is that the Arcean didn't research any of the easy influence techs. -- hintikka
Some aspects of the game look good -- the universe map is nice, the starship battles look alright. But two things look like games I played 15 years ago: the map of where impvovements are on each planet (reminds me of a computerized version of Risk I had 15 years ago) and the land invasion screen. What I'd like is something that brought more of a sense of what the planet actually feels like and that seems a bit more like an actual battle (honestly, it reminds me of ant war -- I played th
Thanks!
I don't get how the planet quality bonus works (the racial ability). Can someone explain it? Does it improve the planet from the beginning (in terms of number of squares)? Does it improve the bonuses on the planet? Does this happen as the planet is developed or right away? -- hintikka
The point is that defender doesn't have a weapon. But they had weapon technology and simply never built ships with it. The one year thing explains the problem -- that's way too long before building new ships! They should do it every time they get a new weapon/armor technology. -- hintikka
I just played the first campaign. I developed lasers and attacked the Dredgin with small ships. They only had defenders so I beat them without a scratch. Then they proceeded to only build defenders for the rest of the game! And they had Laser up to V !!! I was playing on tough. -- David
Can you have multiple economic starbases helping the same planet? So if, say, one planet had all of your trade routes could you surround it with economic starbases with the trade bonus? -- hintikka
Is there a way to have new ships built already launched? This is almost always how I want the ships and invariably I forgot to launch one and it sits in port for a number of turns, slowing me down. If there isn't a way, this is an option I would dearly like added. -- hintikka
Some more thoughts: You never see your picture after the creation process. I would like a more constant reminder of what I look like. , The planets feel very generic. I'm not asking for Civ-4 levels of graphic beauty, but something (still artwork?) to make it seem more exotic and wonderful. Perhaps giving each of the races some sort of unique ability that goes against the rules in some way. Factories work as farms for the robot race... Kamakazi exploding ship
So this seems like a fun game. And I like these Civ-esque games. But it isn't really drawing me in the way that I would expect. I think that one thing is that it just doesn't have much atmosphere. When I first saw the different races I didn't want to play any of them -- they all felt really generic. I wish there were one page histories of each of the races. They should be more unique, more fun. They should be wild and crazy. Or tame. But you should really feel like you are playing a sp
Anyone know of a mirror for this patch? I find downloading directly from the site insanely slow.
