Multiple Economic Starbases

Can you have multiple economic starbases helping the same planet? So if, say, one planet had all of your trade routes could you surround it with economic starbases with the trade bonus?

Yes multiple economic starbases stack.
The Trade modules increase the value of the trade while the mini-freighter is inside their sphere of influence.
And again they stack.

trade bonuses and economic bonuses do stakc and yes you could surround a planet with them

Does it make a difference if you put them in the middle of a freighter route? I have been doing that, I wonder if it helps.

it doesn't matter where you put it, as long as the trade route is in it's sphere of influence.... however, the longer the minifreighter remains within the sphere of influence the more money you get.... so putting the starbase on top is still the best option

Wait, people use economic starbases to make money? Is that actually worthwhile?

I only ever used them to produce resources. Giving a cluster of worlds near a sector border +200% in all production is never a bad thing, particularly when half of it is free

do production and research stack aswell?

Yep.

Personally I don't find trade routes all that worth the bother. But if I have time in the game, I'll send freighters out from my production planet (or cluster of planets) and chuck the trade modules in the economy starbases I have for the production bonuses.

U can have an economic base with all trade modules (60% increase in every trade route, 3 modules) and all resource bonus fairly easy. The 60% increase is not to be sniffed at, 10 routes coming from the same planet making 50 bcs, means a bonus of 300bcs per week, nice, thats 800bcs a week from trade, even better

Personally, I don't like stacking rules.
It enocourages starbase spamming and lots of micromanagement.

It would give much better gameplay if it would not stack (then players would puit bases in such way to minimize overlaping).

Well there is supposedly an upper limit to the number of starbases you can build, based on your Logistics (I have never seen this limit so ...), and there is a hard limit to 4 starbases per sector, so its not like its unlimited "spamming starbases".

Cheers,

There is an upper limit on starbases I think (I saw it when fiddling with the Maps). However, it is not linked to logistics. Your logistics limits the number of stabases you can build before paying, and how much starbases cost after that.

Well, for me economic starbases are a gamewinner. Find a big planet, turn it into a research colony, make it the Tech capital, fill it with NLC's, surround it with economic starbases ( 4 per quadrant you should be able to get 12-16 if the placing of the planet is good), research production so you can upgrade all the economic starbases to give 33% boost each of research and production to the planet...and presto...once fully covered with NLC's the planet is cranking out 4-5000 research points....game over!

I've just started using stacked starbases in my latest game, wicked!!

thanks for the heads up guys.

In my latest game (Sandbox - large - Abundant - Masochistic) I'm way behind the other civs, militarily, but I've got Battlecruisers with nuff defences kicked out every few turns ( thanks again).

It was a quiet galaxy for a long long long long long long long long time until the drengin got Picked on by all the races. They died in less than 5 months as everyone had doom lasers. the Dominion of Korx fell shortly after that.

By now i've swept the galaxy and know all its secrets and my Espionage has hit high level. Its time to snoop...Bloody farms on red researfch tiles, yellow research tiles left bare. 300% manufacturing bonus playing host to embassies. From the seven remaining civs the total number of planets that i might have built myself would be about 10. It bugs me that the Ai Planetary improvement sucks so much, especially now that ship building AI is brilliant to say the least.

The Drath are second most powerfull after the torians, and they have just declared war on me. My two Battle cruiser fleets have just made the first foray into enemy territory and picked clean about 8 planets worth of defenders two fleets of battleships and a few economic starbases. And I need to press end turn to find out how much damage i've done...Hope its better than I think it is. I'm going to need help defeating them, but so far only the Thalan have come forward with a fleet. Thank you you overgrown worried looking praying Mantis, God love Ya.! Unsurprisingly they died straight away.

I'm not really worried as I'm on ultimate unvulnerability and all they have is ecm3 to counter my quantum torps. Hee hee.
