I'm much more an exxxtreme fanatic of fantasy strategy games than science-fiction strategy games. I've played almost all of them : Master of Magic, all the Heroes of Might & Magic, all the Age of Wonders, all the Disciples, all the Warlords. I'm also a huge fan of the Stardock approach. I can't wait to pre-order the beta of that enigmatic sword-and-sorcery game. In what concerns the Galactic Civilization series, I s*ck. I just

My dad pre-ordered that TA expansion, and I tried it (beta 5) this morning. I created a custom race with the super-isolationist ability, in an « immense » universe (vast, with a lot of « scattered » stars & planets), with 6 competitors (on « normal »), to have some space & time to grow without interference. Look what happened : The universe generator put 6 of the 7 players in the same half of the map (the right portion of the losange), and put only 1, totally isolated
Gotta love NWN ... right ??? Eternal Winter Night : that's in the direction of my witchy tastes.

Whatever that means...I doubt that it is based on any scientific research in cognitive neuropsychology. It is just an opinion...formulated in an odd, t
I'm a 20 y-old girl. At the moment, I alternate between GalCiv 2 and Heroes of M&M 5, and between the forums dedicated to those two turn-based strategy games.
by Kosty Sunday, May 28, 2006 5:08 AM : I am a very experienced strategic gamer and have a lot of historical education and military experience and training. Oh...wow! We are soooo lucky that you take the time & trouble to grace us with your presence & wisdom.
The goofy Goodies should remain as they are now : weak & pathetic, easy preys for the Dark Side. And the same goes on this forum in what concerns all the timid nice-guys who feel the need to add to their posts : "Please don't flame me"... accompanied by those naive yellow smileys & their dumb thumbs-up.
by dthought Monday, May 22, 2006 7:42 PM : " [...T]he only way I could see around that would be to restrict saving to every X many turns [...] Well, don't reload if YOU don't want to...but don't make your personal ethical code a totalitarian Order for all players.
On the Metaverse, a racial victory is when you have won at least once with each and every of the default (non-custom) races.
Oups...you're right : I jumped the gun to do some easy humour on a pseudo-typo. He did write 1,7 GHz. [blush] Strange : the edit button vanishes after a while, so I can't go back and edit my previous reply, even though I could edit this more recent one.
" [M]y notebook is not top-of-the-line (PM740/1,7Ghz [...] " Well...if your notebook's processor runs at "7 GHz", you do have an above-top-of-the-line computer!
Mr Neural Jizz is soooo overtly ignorant & unfair, concerning GC2, that I cannot understand why you guys have taken the time & trouble to answer his obvious provocation.
just talked to dell for 3 hours and now its fixed and i can play all my games again "Dude, it's a Dell."
by Franco fx Monday, May 15, 2006 12:34 PM : "As usual the war monger gamers are starting to dominate this game and I suppose that is to be expected since they are the majority. I have played my last big map. I just don't have the patience to take out every single planet." I totalllee agree. This forum is too dominated by warmong

Avatar Draginol : " That is why in 1.11 we added a new option (which needs to be renamed) "Intense AI" (that's what I think it should be called later). If that's selected [...] " Where is that new A.I. option selected when starting a new game with version 1.11 ? Does anybody know ?
And even if a hack used the forum to send a covert credit-card number request...how could it find that number? If you do not store your credit-card info anywhere on your computer, there is no fish to phish.

I am very confident that Mr Wardell and his programmers could design & code a smarter warmonger A.I. for the higher levels of difficulty...but (correct me Stardock, if I am wrong) there is a question of economics to consider : Is it worthwhile, in terms of time & expense, for the Stardock business to invest in many personnel-hours of design & coding to satisfy a small minority of customers who insist on an extremely competitive gaming experience? I suppose that Stard
I am a new player, and I have trouble understanding this thread, especially since you guys do not seem to agree. For the moment, my basic concern is : If a planet is attacked, do all oribiting ships defend it at the same time, during the same battle? The logistics of fleet organization is less urgent for a new player, especially if one does not know how to obtain a "orbital fleet manager". I have not played a long enough game, yet, to see one of those on
Frogboy (Stardock) Monday, May 08, 2006 9:18 PM : The other thing players should do is keep upping the difficulty level. The A. "I". doesn't get any smarter then : it eventually "cheats" by getting quantitative bonuses. It's only a quick fix, a superficial substitute for lack of heuristic metaprogramming (no offense intended). T
Its kinda like Girlfriends Can't kill em, or live without them As a girl, I find that kind of off-topic, sexist sarcasm somewhat distasteful : grow up, kid...and join the IIIrd Millennium.
A "geforce 500 video card"?! Such a thing does not exist : be more precise, and indicate the card's driver-version number. Your drivers might be too old. I did experience a black screen (with cursor & voice, like you), but it was limited to the intro movie and the short in-game movies. I pressed the escape key and landed on the game's main menu : but later, the in-game movies were black. It was a problem with Bink video-compression . I solved it by downgrading the anti-aliasing, in th
