Wow. Brilliant, if somewhat unpolished, storyline here. I would love to see more of these stories or plot elucidations - and not just in the Galactic Civilizations games, either. You have me hooked (I was already hooked, but nevertheless); keep up the great work!
Shadow
I haven't noticed them when I play, but that's probably because I don't look for them. I do notice them on the battle screen, however - maybe you just need to zoom in really close to see them.
Does it still say the same PQ after you first check on it and discover that it doesn't have the right amount of tiles, or does it change to reflect the new value?
Who cares if Brad's a money-grubbing capitalist, Stardock still makes great games They have my money as long as they continue their excellant business policies and keep producing high-quality games
I find the story of this game very interesting and wish (people always find a way to sneak pet peeves and wishlists into compliments) that it could have been elaborated/lengthened a bit more. This kind of story would fit better in a book or series than a video game, but nevertheless, it was very good. By the way, what year was it when you finished the final level (which was bugged - the Dread Lords' planet didn't have any sort of manufacturing facility or even an initial colony on it, s
Perhaps if you set the starting conditions to the following you could slowdown the colony rush: ~Habitable Planets = Rare ~Planets = Occasional ~Stars = Occasional ~Size = Gigantic ~Star Formation = Scattered or Loose Clusters ~Reserach Rate = Slowest This would ensure that there would be enough planets for a good game, but the stars would likely be far-flung enough that you need some life support to reach them, which would take a lot longer to research than norm
That's probably because you're at war with them and they generally have an overwhelming military advantage.
Wounded in Action, I believe, is 'earned' when you lose battles - I am not sure how many. Gandron - medals are badges you get in your signature when you fulfill certain requirements. You can get medals for various things: being in the highest-rated empire, posting 5 games to the Metaverse, having an ethical alignment of 'Evil' in a majority of your games, etc. Perhaps another member can post a link to the medal page; you can move the mouse over any medals you see (I should have a few in
Until they fix it, it would be best not to research Invention Matrix or Discovery Sphere until you have developed most of your planets (trade for Discovery Sphere later).
It is generally a good idea not to research farming technology before morale technology. If you are an obsessive micro-manager, you can build farms on the tiles (which will then save you another 1-3 tiles from their bonus) and then just cancel the upgrade when you research the technology. I generally build at least one advanced farm on all of my planets that have a PQ of 7 or higher. It means the planet can usually pay for itself, unless it is my research or industrial capital. <br/
No, no, first they attempt to appeal to our 'humanity' in the last scenario briefing (that was a blind shot - I have never played any other Galactic Civilizations game, and apparently didn't play the game or mission where the Thalans were explained, but whatever) Do you know what would be really hilarious? Pick 2 minor races, give them a few planets each and some high-level technology, and c
My first choice would be Society (www.societygame.com, if anyone is interested [and you should be]), because I have never played a high-quality MMO-RTS before But that is already a given (ie being worked on right now), so my vote would go for a Fantasy 4x Strategy. I am not sure how many people are aware of Society, though - hopefully, awareness will increase as we get closer to its launch date
The new website looks great Its cleaner and easier to navigate, too.
It would be somewhat unrealistic for a missle, bullet, or laser to travel several lightyears in a single week to a target area (not to mention accurately hitting the target). Although I suppose it is also somewhat unrealistic for a starbase to assisst in a battle multiple parasecs away. It would be cool to add a line of modules that allow it to attack nearby areas, but I think starbases' main role should remain supportive/passively defensive.
It would both work and not work. I am pretty sure that having such a planet so deep inside your own territory would not cause other planets to convert to your empire. However, such a planet would yield a very large number of Influence Points if fully developed - my suggestion would be to build 2 farms, 1 morale booster, 3 Cultural Centers, and (if you have extra tiles for soil enhancement) a Political Capital, Stock Market (to take advantage of the high population) and as many more cultural cent
For the Production and Research values dropping to 0 - did you drop into debt, or have a Treasury of less than -500 BC, right before that happened? For taking over half of the galaxy - do you mean they colonized half the galaxy or that their cultural influence bubbles extended over half of the galaxy? The latter one wouldn't be that hard to achieve - it happens almost every game I play, except for very large galaxies. For that matter, were you playing on Small or Tiny galaxies? <
Buying ships outright (ie not waiting for a few turns for the production costs to decline) can be devastating to an early economy. I would recommend against buying more than 1 or 2 colony ships - it is far more effecive to buy factories instead. Don't stop at researching Trade Centers! I usually try to continue directly to Stock Markets. If you can research these, your economy should stabilize itself. A key is to balance Approval, Taxes, and Overall Prodcution Spending. At the start o
Or make the engines MUCH more expensive (I believe Hyperwarp only costs 10 BC or so - you can pile them onto cargo holds for extremely fast and cheap ships).
It was on the CD case for me, as well, on the front side.
You get those for various things you do on the forum - I believe the categories contain awards like 'Most Comments', 'Most Posts', etc.
Well, the Dread Lords had almost finished off the Arnor when they used the pocket-universe device and sucked almost all the Dread Lords off into another dimension ...
Because they are supposed to be 'Minor', not 'Moderately Aggressive', Races. They are prevented from colonizing, I think, under the assumption that the other races who have been exploring into space for a while, like the Arceans and Drengin, have had countless millenia to refine their colonizing ability, whereas the Minor Races are, for the most part, at 20th century Earth technology levels or lower. Their role in the game is to add flavor/originality and provide a possible trading partner,
I try never to trade Xeno Ethics, at least early to mid game, because of the incredible bonuses it brings. But the AI will EVENTUALLY research Xeno Ethics, if only because it finishes researching everything else. But I believe it assigns Xeno Ethics a lower priority, possibly because all the computer AI's are basicaly *set* in their alignments and aren't programmed to recognize the benefits it would provide them (aside from influence and diplomacy bonuses), assuming a random event doesn't turn t
You are playing v1.2, right? I just played a game where I built Galactic Privateers and then got in a long war with the Iconians (I built the Privateers before the trade routes). The ships would come up next to my freighters and try to attack them (I know they tried because it kept autofoucsing on my freighters, like they were about to go into a battle), but they were never able to engage the freighters. The Galactic Travel Guide is in need of serious work - it should probably be remov
My advice would be to crank up the difficulty level (the converse of what you would expect, but, as stated above, it helps your allies quite a lot and doesn't really affect the Dread Lords, since they can already kill everybody without help), build swarms of fighters with as many weaponas as you can fit. I wouldn't bother with defenses, because even with a massive hull with maximum miniturization it isn't possible to get the level of shielding required to stave off their attacks and remain offen
