I generally turn it off if with a switch if I won't be needing it in the next hour. Saves electricity and heat.

I could be wrong, but 3d rendering (directx,...) is disabled by default on Win2003.( (for security measures) You have to enable it.
Perhaps CTRL+N? Never used it.
edit: access denied Fleets are mixed on speed, usually hullsize since the larger hulls tend to have some more engines in place.
Playing dreadlords mostly on gigantic galaxy and though AI In the early days: mixed research of bonus techs (+X social production,...) and speed techs (surely ion and normally impulse). During that period the speediest cargohulled ships have my preference (colony, scout, constructor) and a cartonboard type of ship (cargohulled, tons of weaponry but no engines) as it has just to be a mean sitting duck. Early fighters: medium sized with 2-3 engines, armed to the teeth with spare defence
I'm still playing DL, since I haven't a credit card like Visa.
The pirating has some positive side-effects: demo (you can play longer than 5 minutes, will it run on the pc?) bringing interest in unknown games (wow, didn't know such game existed (galciv)) mostly no cd-required (not everyone has 5 drives if he/she decides to have a diversion) I'm still catching up with budget titles, too bad I don't have visa. I wonder where all the co-op games went, duelling cosy with your friends, either in racing (wacky wheels),football (fifa99),be
Nice story
Have you tried copying the files to your local harddisk? Either there is something wrong with the cd or with your hardware (memory, cable). If you have broadband you can install it straight from stardock central.
Happy New Year from Belgium!
That would be a nice twist, the allocating power. I'm against reducing speed to 10, speed 20 quite satisfactory but at 10 your ships move a snail pace at the risk of being outdated if the planets are quite seperated in gigantic galaxies.
Thanks for the various efforts. Gonna try it tomorrow
Mine is currently xp2400+, 1 gig ram & radeon9700 and it still plays smooth
A compelling story. Can't wait for the following one.
What was the most dreaded event you encountered? Mine was that a whole star system got colonizable in the middle of the best enemy's territory. Second one was that the Torions found an artifact making them stronger every turn, luckily they were reduced to 3 star systems at that point.
I have it too. Surely noticable on the larger PQ. Playing 1.3 beta2. First time I play neutral.
Also make sure you upgrade the 512mb ram to 1 gb for extra comfort.
Perhaps a bug/feature Being curious I tried counting how many planets my fellow competitors had. Sometimes when I add a colony (from the enemy) to the trade table it sometimes add 2 colonies (mostly of the same system). Example: click Ares, Click Andromeda,Click Bond I (adds Bond II) to the list. Do I click too fast?
Hello, Have you tried the new video drivers from nvidia dating 23 june 2006? Have you tried reinstalling the game?
The balooning/memory leak is a confirmed bug in 1.3 beta 1. Which version are you playing?
In one of the posts it was mentioned that you'll have to start a new game with beta2 to prevent the memory leak/balooning.
You will have to find out which type your graphic card slot is: PCI: really old pc's AGP: just aged out in favor of PCI-Express A nice read on what graphic card is recommended (still from 2004): http://www.tomshardware.com/2004/11/10/thg_graphics_card_buyers_guide/ The geforce mx series (also GF 5200, ATI 300) are actually serious dumbed down geforce cards (lacks modern transform & lightning,...) To play a "modern" game you need: a good graphic card
What worked for me on abundant world was: Military: 2 engines, fill up with weapons. I prefer the largest hull since they last longer. Colony & constructor: one module, fill up with engines. Rely on military/resource starbases to extend range. Scout: even mix between engines and survey modules (level 2) Transport: min 2 engines, max troop modules In coarse galactic I've got beaten because my research was way slower. Get atleast impulse drive. Moving slower makes
Citizen Johnny, There should be a file sig.bin in your Galciv2 directory. Rename it. Goto Stardock Central Goto Galvic2 Rightclick and choose activate without logging (or something alike) Now your game should start properly
