You cannot place an agent on the initial colony improvement or on the the Civilization Capital. In the Planetimprovements.xml file there is a new tag for Dark Avatar which is "CanHaveAgents" and can have a value of 1 or 0. So if you wanted to keep people from putting agents on farms you'd just have to change that value to 0 for all the farm improvements. I personally like the idea of agents coming in and "poisoning the wells" so to speak. I feel like it gives them a bigger role than just low

Thanks! Very interesting info. So if I make a huge ship (for example) on a blank hull and it does not reach its "max size" it will appear smaller than other huge ships?

I love the new "blank hull" in DA. I've had trouble figuring out how big the ship I make is going to be when it appears on the game screen. How does that work? It seems like ships are scaled based on their hull-size attribute, regardless of how "long" they are in the ship design screen, but I also seem to get ships that are a lot smaller than they ought to be when I use the blank hulls. Any tips on how to predict how big a ship is going to be as I build it?

I experienced the same in my first and only game with Beta 2. I was playing as humans, medium galaxy, abundant everything, against the drengin, the thalans, and the krynn. Before I even got the "journey begins" pop-up there was a pop-up with the krynn getting a manufacturing capital. Did they get to go before me and buy it on their first turn? I've always assumed the human player always went first, but maybe that's not the case.

Just was playing the Beta 2 build and had to look up a phone number in another program, so I alt-tabbed out of Dark Avatar. I was probably out of it for about 10 minutes. When I alt-tabbed back the music came on but the screen went black. After a few minutes a little window came up and said "invalid call". I used to task manager to force quit DA because it just hung on the black screen with the music. I think I remember something being said about alt-tab switching being a problem wi

Great thread! I had 5000 RP's on my tech capital in my last game as the iconians and I thought I was doing well! It was on a medium map with only one research resource which I did not own. But this stuff is impressive, especially the 20,000 RP planet. Mumblefratz - you must be able to research the whole tech tree in one turn with research production like that. Do you play on very slow tech rate?

I can imagine it's difficult to get the AI to do what you want, even when what you want them to do is both theoretically and practically feasible. Two questions: is the pop up with the information about what the Korath are researching a debug feature or a new espionage interface? And I almost don't even want to ask so as not to cause any more headaches, but any luck in using the same marvelous bit of code to change how the AI evaluates the colonization techs for trade?

I run the game on a 3 year old laptop with a Mobility Radeon 9000. I basically have to play zoomed out to tactical level all the time and the battle viewer is a slide show, but the game itself is still fun. I usually play medium maps, but have been able to finish games (enjoyably) on gigantic.

The one thing that is not a bug is the fact that the read tiles didn't disappear. The neutral bonus has been changed to upgrade all green, yellow, and red tiles when the appropriate tech is researched (but without having to spend the social spending and time on habitat improvement, soil enhancement, and terraforming). In my opinion this is actually a little more balanced.

I've moved up to 3 modules per transport (based on a cargo hull) and the rest engines, with a life support module or two thrown in to fill out the space. But be ready: in Dark Avatar engines are already bigger and more expensive in the first Beta and looking to stay that way or get even more so. It seems like 90+ move transports (like I had once in a game I played as the Yor) are too hard for the AI to defend against and the developers are trying to make engines a premium to calm things down a

I did not know about the miniturization bonus on higher levels. Any chance of someone (whether from Stardock or who just someone who knows) posting exactly what the advantages given at higher levels are?

I almost don't want to ask because I'm pretty sure that the answer is no, but I just have to know: Is there any chance that Stardock is planning to add separate military populations to Dark Avatar? I know I read a post in which Frogboy (or Draginol, I can't remember which and I can't find the post now) talked about wanting this feature but not being able to put it in GalCiv2. When one of the Dark Avatar previews included a line about being able to build "barracks" able to cr

It seems like the consensus is building - better to improve the AI than salvage the Epic generator. It's definitely a neat idea, but as SleekDD said, it's also quite an ambitious project, too ambitious, I would have to say for what you get out of it. Unless you put more work into in than the entire GalCiv game it would necessarily be unnatural and repetitive (at best). But as other posters have said, the "event log" could still be salvaged, and more useful, in my opinion, than even t

I don't know if this feature was announced, but I sure was surprised when I noticed "Newest" "Old" and "All" tabs on my planetary improvement list. So instead of having to start new planets with Enhanced Factories I could still build basic ones and then upgrade. Definitely adds to the micromanagement but also cures the "factory-phobia" that always had me putting off factory upgrade techs until later in the game. Also, as I conquered / influenced other civs' planets I noticed they were using o

My first (and only) game was me as the Terrans against the Krynn, Korath, Torians, Drengin, and Noldor (a custom enemy with Feanor as leader and Beleriand as homeworld...). It was on tough. As I quickly became the dominant civ (aided in part by the plague to which no one else bothered to research the cure - eventually I just had pity on them and sold the tech to everyone else) my civ was flooded with agents. Pretty well placed ones too. At one point I had 21 agents on my planets. I just tri

Superspy does work for the AI, in any case. I was just playing against the Krynn and I could not place spies on their planets.

I also noticed that the AI was not researching the plague cure. After a while I felt bad for them (and wanted at least a minimal challenge) and so I sold it to them all. Interestingly enough, they were not overly interested in buying it from me either - they just gave me the same money they would have for any other moderately expensive tech.

TONS OF FUN! Very slow compared to dread lords, but in a good way. There's just always fun stuff to do. I haven't even fought yet, and it's been as much thinking as some entire DL games! A few cool things: apparently picking neutral only unlocks the yellow and orange squares, not the red ones. Interesting... I know we're not supposed to post the Epic Generator stuff, but I can't even find where to turn it on or look at it... On the "Ship Intelligence Report

Marcathonas - let's not get into a Tolkien debate... But by the Third Age "Sauron" or "Gorthaur" (earlier "Thu") had changed a lot since Luthien sang down the tower and freed Beren or Huan fought him as a were-wolf. Of course it's true that Elendil and Gil-Galad were able to overthrow Sauron in personal combat, albeit at the cost of their own lives. Unlike what Peter Jackson shows in the movie, the Silmarillion seems to say that Sauron was "thrown down" before Isildur cut the ring from his han
