So doing extraneous stuff makes you better? I mean let's face it, you're a numbers machine and probably one of the very best that play this game. My curiosity simply lies in how I can achieve a several hundred thousand point game without doing the SB array crap or that kinda stuff. I guess my first problem lies in the fact that I mostly do medium sized galaxies when I'm not ZYW-ing. I may not be godly like you, Neilo, Motti, or the other dominators (even including some of those strange
then that demonstrates that it is extremely likely that I can out produce and therefore win against someone that is unable to do the same.
Fine. But why do it, aside from the only possible explanation, which is to boost your score?
Yes the construction of such a thing is artifical but the productive capacity required to build such a thing quickly is *not* artifical.
Again, fine. But why do it, aside from the only possible explanation, whic
For a while there, I played the one or two planet strategy on large maps. In them, I'd rush buy labs and research sensors and engines first. Build 2 or 3 survey ships and try to get as many anomalies as I could. Once I got Warp Drive, I'd switch to the yellow techs up through Total Majesty. Trade is also a good one, since it boosts diplomacy and costs so little in time.
How long would you do this for? How many years? Wouldn't the AI's start breathing down your neck for no
A "top player" is one who specializes in artificially jacking up their score? Interesting.
Vogar had a question mark at the end of that, and I think he's implicitly questioning the validity of the statement. I don't think he meant to say "this is the case".
I was only kidding with my reply. I wrote that really late at night and I was in a very weird mood. I thought it was the funniest thing in the world at the time. I was laughing uncontrollably as I typed it. I wasn't drunk or drugged out or anything. In regard to killing in games, I believe that it's causing a desensitization that can result in the conditioning of people toward violent acts. I'm currently reading one of the most fascinating books I've ever read, written by an Army R
Depending on what difficulty you're playing on, you should either get aggressive and conquer some mofos, or ctrl N. I'd try the former first, because it'll be a learning experience. Like in business, you always wanna be growing. And the econ is kinda like a simplified abstract of business. You grow or you die.
Good god, rename this thread to "Treasure Trove". I played a game last night with the goal of influence flipping as many enemy planets as I could. From stuff I've read here, it was happening so frequently that it almost felt like a joke. I never liked doing that, I thought it contributed to influence victory. But hot damn does it take a lot of invasion micromanagement out of it. On this all abundant medium galaxy, I finished the game with 1.25 trillion people. And stupid me, I was evil
Wolfenstein 3d But I don't remember if Hitler appeared in the original Wolf 3d or the Spear of Destiny.
That's original Wolfenstein. That shows him after you blast him out of his "Mecha-Hitler" suit. Speaking of hitler, I was in Washington DC this past April sight-seeing and long story short, I came across a fricking Neo-Nazi rally. I flipped them off and yelled things like "HITLER ONLY HAD ONE BALL!!!" and other colorful things. Some of the nazi's even laug
Nice. I love the concept of 40k. I could never afford to buy many dudes, and on a scale from 1-10, my artistic ability is a -4. Plus, there were so many cool factions I could never choose one and stick with it. Space Marines are just bad ass, Tyranids are super cool, Imperial Guard have sick tanks, Eldar are really cool, Khaos is what I played when I did, and Orks are a riot. As Phazon said, feel free to post pics of your models. I love seeing other peoples' talent on their army. I
Also, which profile pic shows up in the forum? I tried one for both and neither showed up.
I noticed the icon thing with Loupdinour. I was reading something that he had replied to and his pic was gone, and I was like weird he always had one. So I was reading another thing maybe 5 minutes later, and I saw another of his replies and his picture was there. Funky!
Not to dis Brad's beloved Michigan, but it is known as one of the highest tax and least business friendly states in the U.S. Businesses have been leaving the state in droves, leading to its highest in the nation unemployment rate.
Lol try living in new york. And I'm not talking the city, I mean the whole actual state outside of it. (not long island either).
I thought profit for a company is defined after expenses and taxes are taken care of.
This is defined as PAT, or profit after tax, which is the amount you walk away with after all expenses including taxation have been deducted. And Kryo is correct (cuz that never happens ;)) , there's tons of companies that use 1099 workers without it being some dirty underhanded thing like having an off-shore headquarters or something.
Look through the options menus, there should be a checkbox 'remove functional components on upgrade' (or 'keep') and check it accordingly.
I didn't know about that, and it has bugged me for over a year lol.
Even veteran played have questions or may have never noticed a certain check box before.
lol I'm not quite a veteran, but this held true for me :D
Probably correct and to a large extent I view this as a positive rather than a negative.
Yeah I agree with you there. Something I'm curious about is this: I see people with scores in the several hundred thousands per game. Are these games indicative of using these score-boosting methods, or because of a massive, planet filled galaxy? (or both) Let's say TA game, gigantic galaxy, all abundant. 8 year completion, no artificial score inflation, conquest vi
It would be nice though if the AI would ever build these, or any other one-of-a-kind ethic specific building. i ALMOST saw an AI build that neutral structure that gives income from other neutrals' tourism income.
At the higher difficulty levels, they build them quite often. Before the end of the first year, I've seen races build diplomatic translators, the Restaurant, and sometimes both. Also Tir-Quan and aphrodesiac. I work to acquire these plants ASAP.
I've always felt in the back of my mind that the number of ships I had was a determining factor in my military score, but I never had anything to back it up beyond my "hunch". What you're saying makes sense. Perhaps the reason #/ships is factored in is to lessen the gains from strategies such as the 1/1 starbase-magnified smaller ships. As I mostly play small or medium galaxies, my idea of a good military rating is around 30,000, nowhere near millions, so there isn't as substan
Can you actually get a near-dead civ to give *all* their worlds for peace? I've never tried that, and it would sure suit my play style better than destroying them utterly.
I've done this 3 or 4 times, with the most planets gained being 4 against the drengin. What also works with this, is being a lot more powerful militarily (and wiping theirs out), and also trading them really good techs too. This isn't always necessary but it helps. They won't be able to do anything with
Now post-fix coupled with the 'pink blob of doom' strat the AI seems to enjoy, they are an influence machine
I haven't seen them act any more influence-y than any other empire. I have not witnessed a pink blob of doom that acts more aggressively than any other *insert race color* blob of doom. Perhaps this is a phenomenon observed on larger galaxy sizes than I play.
Wow 3 gigs of ram? Not bad. Could be a driver issue. Try checking to see if you have the most updated version.
If you looked up "steaming pile of feces", there would be a picture of this post next to it.
There is no good and evil? So if I think raping children is an evil act, that's just my silly point of view?
Nice work. I never got why Thalan MCC use was so talked about, and not any other race using it. This goes back to like DL and DA.
Although apparently I'm stealth evil because my alignment icon in my medals isn't showing up again. I guess it's because the best trick I have pulled is convincing you I didn't exist. Edit: There it is. I played a ZYW with Korath and it showed up. Perhaps it glitches due to my custom race usage.
Inches pleaseexplain why EA is evil to freeman.
Uhh, I dunno. Cuz Battlefield 2 was boring? My post was in response to Neilo's cats in cages pic.
