The drath are powerful, but some of the bonuses are pretty worthless like the Espionage and defense which pre 1.2 was considered not so useful. The numbers alone don't tell the full story because of that. The Altarian have pretty worthless Luck and Courage bonuses. Loyalty seems not so useful to me also. The worse seems to be Arcean and the Icionian, just looking at the bonues alone, there is no reason what so ever to choose them compared to choosing the Yor (bet

Tarbo: Well, since I have, say 4 starports out of 12-15 possible, the build queue removal is really a non-issue. These planets are more or less specialized on production. This is my way of controling bias towards social of military. The number of planets with starports. Most Super Projects or Achievements are built on planets without a starport, <br

Another early trade good that they like to build is micro repair bots, but that's not quite as critical.

Large is not worth it?? You kidding me? In terms of hit point/cost, hull space/cost , Large punks medium. Given a fixed logistic point ability, ditto hitpoint/logistic, hull space/ logistic.

aphrodesiac is actually one of the good trade goods/ galactic achievements that the AI build. Another one is xanium hull plating. They also like to build diplomactic translators....

Diplomacy and SCC are all, in my mind, really stupid ideas. From a game design perspective. They're like exploits, except that they're built into the game. It's explicitly designed to make it possible to take advantage of the AI. Yeah we have discussed this a lot, about how the AI should act in character, versus acting with the goal

I think I have to challenge the idea that no race would ever challenge you. I play on 'tough' and have customized my race for max diplomacy as well. I use this trick often just to cut down on my micromangment. I even waste a tile to put down an Omega Defense to boost it even higher. But the other races WILL on occasion call your bluff. Military

All this vitriol and all over one statement. calm down richrf, you'll go grey before you time! Right back at you "believer"!

I suppose the point the OP is making is that given the same RP production (say you got your super NLCs producing insane amounts of RP), it is way easier to win by putting them into tech victory as compared to putting them to work into weapon techs for a conquest victory because even though insanely powerful weapons compared to the opponent pretty much gurantee a win, it still takes additional production and soldering techs to pull it off. I'm just interpreting btw, not my opinion.

Yeah it's pretty powerful. I was trying to break it, some people advocate using cargo hulls and stuffing it with weapons rather than small hulls But assuming the formula for projecting military strength is still (Attack +Defense + hit point)/ 10, for most reasonable weapon tech levels (up to around harpoon), you are better off with using small hulls. Even though cargo hulls offer 55 hull space compared to 26 for small hulls, you need to make up (10-1) = 9 poin

AOW:SM had potential, but the main and best part of MOM which was customisable wizard and wide varity of spells was lost. Think Race customizaton in Galciv2 but worse by 100 times. MOM did it best I think, followed by MOOII then Galciv (reasonable amount of abilities but all generic +X bonuses are boring).. then AOW2 (wizard skills that you could later research??? so much for unique game play).

Seriously, if someone can name a strategy game (apart from chess, go, etc.) remove Go, the best ones are about club player standard.. <T

Fanboy? me? Thats just too funny man. But I will admit to being a beleiver, and its panning out, what we want gets made and thats cool. Fanboy, believer.. whatever... semantics.

As I said many times before neutrality is a long term strategy, while evil is short term. Evil has to use the weapons it gets early, or netural will win. As for Good, well, let's hope the diplomacy thingie helps. I don't understand why Netural has the morale bonus and Good the loyalty bonus, if you ask me the loyalty bonus is fairly useless. I would give Good , both the morale and loyalty bonus. I would also give the bonus against invasions to Good (good pe

I would prefer the AI to consider the cost of all the techs in between. They already spot when you try to trade them Laser I and Laser II together so it can't be that hard. Spotting if A is a prequisite of B is much easier i think then trying to value the sum of all the prequisite techs. Anyway I think you are in effect asking the AI

The thing about the special weapon techs for evil is that their advantages don't last, cos in the long run you can research better weapons in the normal line. So the evil race has to strike soon, before the netural race runs away with the game with NLCs.

Really, if a lot of people wanting major changes to this game involving manually controlled espionage, crazy micromanagement of planets, and tactical combat, they should give MOO3 a try and then they'll probably not want it so badly anymore. Actually all the features you mention were in Moo2! Heck in Moo3 you weren't supposed to do crazy microm

By that comment I mean you can achieve 1600 or even 1800 by studying tactics only. From my observation of players at that level ( I used to mentor some of them), they are stronger than say the 1200s almost 100% due to tactics not positional play(= strategy). They make less blunders, miss fewer 2 move tactics etc. . I just don't imagine getting any better conside

Have to agree with Netural then Evil then Good. But i suppose Good becomes important at the tougher levels when it's critical that you need the AI to like you? Evil is better in the short run , but in the long run the power of NLC is going to finish you. Neutral also gets a huge boost thanks to the free upgrade tiles. An often overlooked effect of this is you don't just get the tiles free without terraforming, but because your planet class improves after this, yo

Spin control center helps a lot to project military strength, at maschositic it won't put you to first, but it will keep you from last place. Races that have the same alignment with you will tend to be friendly, work at trading with them to further impove relations, and you can then ally with them and trade for their weapon techs. If they are attacked, you can easily refuse to join in without much penalty.
