To be honest DA doesn't seem to add a lot. Probably the planet environment thing will affect game play most. Don't know enough about asteriods to hazard a guess on how they will affect the game. The spying thing sounds like what's in Moo2/3 where you drop spies to attack and defend with specifc tasks. I suspect unless spying is beefed up and becomes more effective, it won't be a very significant part of the game (like most 4x games). The other stuff like dynamic setup of AI/di

Hmm I typically don't do betas, but I tried the patch and did Macohistic, medium map, I won after some struggle, I don't know if this means the Ai is better, worse the same, or my own skill level has improved.

Up to 1.2, the difficulty levels remained the same in terms of the bonus/penalties given , though they all played better as you patched them due to AI improvements. It's much more confusing in 1.3 Instead of merely adding new levels (two) in between maschoistic and sucide and one between easy and normal with scaled amount of bonuses, This happened. <td class="mb-Body

The Arcean on paper sucks. Same home planet size as Drath. They Only have a special of logistics 7% bonus, which Drath has as well on top of a shitload of other extra abilities. Drath has Ion drives + Xeno Industry theory vs Arcean Hyperdrives + xeno communication +xeno economy. Drath have a slight/big edge in tech due to ion drives. Xeno comm is fairly insiginificant, for xeno industry vs xeno economy, I prefer xeno industry at the sta

Sure we agree. Pretty much 1)High priority of correct type Industry/research 2)Medium priority of correct type (depends on type of world) Morale Food 3)Low priority of correct type Influence.

Well i tend to ignore bonus tiles for influence and morale. Particularly influnce bonus tiles, i seldom if ever build embassies, building influence starbases are more effective i think. Morale bonus tiles are fine, but, again not a big deal. Typically, i can get close to 100% if not 100% approvl by just building one normal morale building anyway. Compared to research and manfu bonus tiles which i almost always use the correct type. Food bonus tiles are the mos

My experience, which is heavily validated at Painful difficulty but not so much at Suicidal, is that if I have any military at all (and am not simply churning out crap ships in a desperate attempt to survive a sudden war), I win. It's over. That sounds very accurate to me.

Why be Good? Because it is *GOOD*. What kind of morals hinge on purely utilitarian concerns!

The criticism is of the ability to explain science, not of the actual science. One of the major problems science has is trying to explain its discoveries to the common masses, which is what results in a lot of misinterpretations and even results in the occasional piece the people do understand that comes to cause trouble for science for several years. <br

" One well known problem for AI is the "frame problem". It is known that humans, when faced with a particular problem to solve, somehow manage to consdier only a relevant subset of all the information stored in memory; thereby weeding out a vast store of irrelevant information. All efforts to duplicate this process with AI have, to date, failed." <br/

I never said that. A lot of people assume. Part of what makes these discussions fun is letting them keep their assumptions. People like to read more into a post than is actually there, and I'm sadistic enough to play with their perceptions. You never said that. LOL, except you go on to imply that in the very next paragraph. <TABLE c

I was speaking more on the origin of life on Earth, some of the causes of the Big Bang, the whole heat death of the universe thing... Each reasonable, but each requires faith to actually believe. If you have no faith in science, they won't make sense to you The origins of life on Earth is still up for grabs in certain respects yes. Ditto

No, I'm not trying to suggest that religion is better than science. What I am saying is every day, science becomes more and more like religion in that you have to take more and more on faith and pray their assumptions are correct. I would say that the scientific method does depend on a small select number of principles that would be what Kant

Okay, why are people using one disproven theory (Einstein's) to argue about another disproven theory (Newton's)? Einstein's Theory of Relativity itself was disproven when his basic equation was modified to allow for negative numbers. This, in turn, eventually led to the discovery of antimatter. And yet, ever since then, everyone talks about Einstein and uses his theory as

And don't forget that this unpredictability shouldn't be completely random: an ally declaring war for no reason without being well prepared to backstab you fast won't improve the fun factor of the game. Of course. The problem right now is that while the AI takes into account military strength other factors such as alignment, trading and particu

Heh, reminds me of a chess proggie I bought once that when cornered would suddenly pull a lost piece back into action. I can still see the phantom pieces floating back onto the board to beat me.... What type of lame chess program is that? Any halfway decent program can spank 99% of human chess players without cheating.

I would like the Ai to be more unpredictable. In some/most games the AI expects completely crazy and unpredictable, even if you ally with them, a few turns later they can declare war for god knows what reason. A lot of people don't like this, but let's face it, we human players act like this too a lot, we make an ally but have no qualms about turning on them when it suits us, even if our relationship is good. In comparison The AI in Galciv2 is so friendly and loyal and pre

One thing you notice is that after the scientists got a black eye with newton "laws" being disproved, they refrained from calling Einstein's successor theory a law. Ah that would be a very bad example for the point you we
