now, that is a lot of advices! it's a shame that most of them are useless, not to mention those that are simply not true I don't think it's that bad, but some of the advise given strikes me as none-optimal at least the way i play. As a first time player, I would have loved if someone told me <TABLE cellpadding=8 widt

Let's all laugh at a strategy guide from someone who can't beat the game on 'Tough'. Well I suspect the poster can probably beat tough it's just a matter of belief. If you think you can't do it, you can't. . Do

Personally I find it hilarious that on one hand ,the 'God' people are willing to accept the belief in an entity that they have no shred of evidence for, and on the other hand demand on 100% proof that evolution is true. I suspect the anti-evolution people won't accept any proof or evidence, unless we build a time machine and go back in time to show them with their very eyes that it is true. Probably even then they would question the validity of time travel etc.. My question to anti-e

I was going to write a long post ripping some of the more questionable advise apart then i read this. I have complained about this and my complaint was dismissed with "the AI is supposed to be dumb until you play it on 'Tough'". Well, I can't play it on tough, and neither can you if you need this guid Is this true? You can't win at t

First off it just add more complexity to the tech tree (its hard enough to decide what to reserch next already thank you) . Personally I think it's a good idea to give you headaches in deciding what to do, the more strategic options the better. <br/

Ghengis Khan - Won - we still know how brutal he was. Atilla - Won - we still know how brutal he was. Stalin - Won - we still know how btutal he was Pol Pot - Won - we still know his story. The idea that history is written by the winners has some merit, but it hinges on the assumption that there is no outsider to observe or care.

I would say GC2 needs work on informative tooltips. I would like to be able to mouse over ship components and get their stats displayed!

I have noticed this before, however a lot of this is due to researching technology that increases your influence. I have NEVER noticed the AI research any of these technologies beyond the first tech (some ambitious AI have been building cultural exchange centers when I conquered them). In my opinion, the AI needs to place more emphasis on these technologies rather than fil

I got my butt handed to me the first few times on Normal too. Mostly because I didn't understand the economy very well which is probably the trickiest part of this game. It's no doubt the reason why the AI's seem so overproductive comparatively speaking. Yes, the AI's main strength is that they can micromanage spending + military/social/resear

I don't need a full civilopedia per say, with all the useless trimmings, but it would be nice if the tech tree that we have showed more details. Would it really hurt for the tech tree to show exactly some of the stats of the ship components such as damage (weapons) or speed (drives) or size (hull)? There just isn't enough functional details available in game. I didn't know ship components varied with ship hull sizes until i read this forum! It wasn't in the manual, nor was it in game

ok...so i've tried to see the "AI has so much production is doesn't have to properly develop it's planets" angle I think this is not the major reason. After playing some more and paying attention, it does this a lot on tough too, where there are no bonuses. <TABLE cellpadding=8 width="95%" align=center bgColor=#FFF

Play at intelligent, then come back and report if it does that too. I suspect it might, but you need to play at least intelligent level, before people will take your complains about AI seriously.

That's the wiki explaination too. But as hashed out already because of the way components size scale with hull size, the way mininturization works now and lead to BIGGER components. Which is very strange. If only component sizes DIDn't scale with hull size, then we would avoid this problem

From reading the forum it seems many/most? people like to play with large maps. I myself have played 8 games with medium maps, 2 with small. Is it true the AI plays better in bigger maps? I was always under the impression that the AI was tweaked with medium maps in mind. The number of opponents also is a factor of course, the more there are, the more crowded it gets regardless of the size of the map. My experience with medium map, 1 opponent - You get

it is a lot more challenging and fun on large+ maps with abundant everything:- the more cash/planets the ai get to play with the more efficient they become. I would play on gigantic but my poor computer slows down way to much to appreciate the game. I cannee get more power captain Larger maps I think are easier to player for the human player. B

Why the heck do you need tax rates to be so high at 69%? You need to build up your economy, I recommend going for Star federation, you will be rolling in dough, even with amazingly low tax rates.

I'm not sure this is the right way to look at political parties. You are assuming that the base cost that SD assigned to race picks are correct. More example I'm sure the Espionage picks are definitely over valued pre 1.1. . Please remember I get 10% of the research for free, and that is like I'd also have a 10% econ bonus! <br

Also it seems that there are 'criticals' which the lucky attribute affects, so there's something else going on..

From whether attacks are 0 to max or 1 to max... I believe the developers over many, many things but not my own eyes. I have never seen that happen and I'm quite sure that no-one else has either since we haven't had a single bug-report of 'Ships not always firing in combat'. And here shows examples of ships not firing in combat...<br

I disagree with admiral, I always go for advanced governments, even when going for conquest. The economy/research etc advantages are HUGE. Normally switching to them, moves me from barely afloat to rolling in dough status. When the $$$ comes rolling in and it does when you have 25-75% economy bonus, it's easy enough to lower tax rates, so your approvals should be high enough to do whatever you want.

This is one of the things I struggle with. I know that my computer opponents have absolutely no problem producing the latest and greatest ship as soon as the tech is available Actually, the AI only updates designs once a year or something based on developers posts. Most human players update a lot more often even if they dont update designs afte
