Yes, the waiting time is not the issue, it's the cash upgrade that is the problem. Personally for me it's also a micromanagement issue. A lot of times you can't really squeeze in more with just one tech improvement. Also it is a waste of effort to redesign every tech improvement.particularly when tech research is fast and manfucturing is slow. I find myself designing Fighter II, Fighter III, setting my governers to change from fighter I to II to III, but in the

I'm pretty sure it's 0 to max. One of the developers mentioned it. When 0 damage is done or blocked it just isn;t shown. In the simulator thread, someone remarked that the developers look at the equations and said it was all correct, so all we need to do is to look at how the simulator runs....

I'm pretty new at this, but when you research a new tech (ion drive f.i) do you design a new ship and obsolete the old one or do you build the outdated hyperdrive and upgrade the ship when it's done? Not sure what you mean, but remember ships are built based on ship design. There is no autoupgrade where old parts are replaced with new ones. Yo

Attack 32, armor 140?? Small ships with defense 4-11 and attack 11-30? Are you a tech God?? Let me guess? Huge/Gigiantic maps? SERIOUSl tech in weapons and defenses? Sigh does anyone EXCEPT me play with medium maps? I thought it was the default! I've always played at medium maps and below, and for me i'm fighting wars with medium hull 100% filled with weapons, at *best* 16-20+ attacks. Once i hit 30+ attacks for large hulls, it's game over.

Honestly, I don't have any way of testing which of the below alternatives is correct: attack roll = 0 to (beam + missile + massdriver), or attack roll = (0 to beam) + (0 to missile) + (0 to massdriver) defense roll = (0 to matched defense) + integer(sqrt(0 to mismatched defense)), or defense roll = (0 to matched defense) + (0 to integer(sqrt(misma

I don't normally use life support, even on gigantic maps. I was going to post about that, but then decided it was my play style. I prefer a forward base of operations for a war, so I generally send a task force ahead of the main fleet to establish a star base or take a small fringe colony so that my range is extended. That also gives me somewhere close by to hide while I r

Some people seem to put a lot of stock into defense, but many don't like it. The problem as I see it is that there is some confusion about how the combat system works..... ISSUE 1: Attacking Ship with single class weapon vs defending ship with correct single class defense. Example: Attacking ship has Beam attack of 6, Defending ship has shield of 3 Question 1a: Is the attack roll from i)0 to 6 or ii) 1 to 6? Question

It's still wrong though. If someone has lots and lots of weak ships they're no match for a single powerful ship. Say one side has a 100hp ship, speed 1, with 10 attack, no defense. The other side has 10 ships with 10hp, 1 speed, 1 attack, no defense. I don't think you can take this into account. There's a limit to the amo

I crank up my tax spend rate to 100%. In my first game, I did not borther with building trade centers and stuff, and I quickly began bankrupt.... This is actually quite different from other TBS games, where $$$ is used only for speeding up production builds and maintaince cost, here you actually need $$ to fund industry and research. I was conditioned by games like cilization to go for research improvements and industry improvements mostly, while overlooking economy improv

I would go for the federalist too. There's no point in bunching up too many bonuses. Particularly weapon and defense bonuses which are less useful at the start. I like a small research boost, so I can quickly research transport troops...

Lets look at it logically. Right now with the comabt system as is, the AIs already have their hands full. If you were to change any of the fundemental rules governing combat, the AI would need to be re-written to take the new rules into consideration. Actually what the proposal does is to change the rules to fit the way the AI plays. <img src="

m pretty new at the game and I don't understand the concept of military production, social production and research. If I build a factory I get some kind of production capacity. If I don't use it, then it's wasted. Wasted military production doesn't waste BC, but social production does. Actually in 1.1 Social production (only for normal no

Don't research techs that take a LONG LONG time (anything above 8 turns for me) unless you really need it. Don't specialise research too deep into a tech tree, for most part a balanced approach is better, particularly for infrastructure techs. There is not much point researching all the way to stockmarkets or discovery spheres when you are stuck at base factories, since it takes ages for you to build stockmarkets.

I mean what does Farm built on a food production bonus tile have to do with low approval? It just means you have a high pop limit without the need to build more farms. The greater problem is that you have a high population growth rate due to inherent bonuses or high approval... I'm not a fan of entertainment centers, I don't think i build them at all. I usually just let my population grow naturally..(exception, sometimes I buy entertainment centers early in the game to gra

My favourite resource hands down is Economy resources. They tide me over my $$ woes, until I get the more advanced governments. Also they are always handy and useful throughout the whole game. Next is morale, but late game, I can easily keep my morale at close to 100% easily without this resource and with high tax rates. Research resources don't seem to do much for me not sure why, don't seem to speed up my research too much, though the full 30%?? should be significant??<br

Hmm I don't really care about pics and all that, but if you alter say Dregin in a game when playing it to a 'economy race', it seems that the abilities will not be reset in the next game. So if the Dregin becomes your opponent in the next game, does that mean they will use the altered stats?

6 Replies 6,283 Views

Actually I have done those kind of races too. It's way too easy to just kill them with your economy and population... Pretty boring, and I don't even build stock markets!! Star democracy et al, give me all the economy bonus I need really. Once I start getting profits of over 1K per turn, with spend rate at 100%., approval at >80%, I don't really borther much with economy, I start up the war machine.... Again I play with medium maps, the impression i get is most of you guys play with

I don't get it. Farms don't help in the speed of population growth right? I never build them until they reach the cap.

[quoteNot true, I've seen AI ships with 15 attack, 50 defense or the other way around, both in my first and only 1.1-game so] Not extreme enough.

* Mass drivers against heavily populated worlds, where 500 troops isn't going to win . As noted this hs no effect if you don't win. 200 BC is pretty steep though early game. I once bankrupted myself, this way in an early game with invasion techs. Also start using mass drivers at the end game, when i dont care what happens, just mopping up. *Standard - If I an win easily. Zero cost is good. *Mini soldiers - My default tactic, for big worlds that won't go down to standard tac
