Sounds like something weird is going on with your game. If one of the AI players is 2x the next highest player in military, then he definitely should be quite aggressive with unfriendly civs. In my games, the AI isn't shy at all about starting wars.

Kingwood also has point in that the AI civ leaders don't have much of a personality. I'd like to see a bit more moral consistency from the AI, myself. It's not absolutely necessary (the game isn't a RPG after all), but it would be nice. To the other poster trolling him, of course this game does a reasonably well defined system of good and evil. The player experiences it every time he chooses a moral dilemma.
You're wrong. You HAVE to bump for it to show. Your fault, not forum. What difficulty are you playing on? The AI's are very different. Heh. What kind of sense does it make that you HAVE to bump a first post in a new thread before it shows up on the board??? <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/
Multi-player is a nice option, but I hardly care if it's not included in a strategy game like this. I even have good friends that I can play these games with. We are fairly well matched in ability, and share the same tastes in games as well. We hardly ever do play these games together, however. When we get (virtually) together and decide on a game, it's always something relatively short like an RTS or FPS. More in-depth games like GalCiv2 just take far too long for multi-player.
This is the first 4x game that I have ever played and so can't comment on the OP's points regarding MOO. But has anyone tried out the following game..... Space Rangers 2: Rise of the Dominators Link Even though I have the the above review I still value the opinions of the people on this board before I
Believe me I wanted to destroy Atari for what they did to MoO3. I so wanted to like that game because of MoO2. I still occasionally try to play MOO3. With a little bit of time, I think it could've been a GREAT game. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Mad.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmidd
Nothing is worse than a buggy game. Makes you swear off a particular company, if it's bad enough. So I can understand how you feel. It's also really annoying when a company doesn't seem to care or acknowledge serious bugs (like crashes). Can't say I see that here. They seem to be on the ball and are apparently hard at work making sure the bugs are squished. I've had a few crashes here and there, earlier, but the last couple of patches are pretty
I've only played about 5 complete games, only 3 metaverse games. Seems like random events have become more rare for me too. Have also noticed a lack of minor races. (In fact, the last two metaverse games, out of only three, had no minors at all throughout the entire game! And the "no minor races" option wasn't selected.) Could have something to do with the new patches, because I started using the betas after my first metaverse game.
Pretty sure there's a way to "abandon colony" in, I think, the summary screen. Not sure why anyone would do it though, since the computer would probably send out a colony ship almost instantly anyway. I've never sold or traded any of my planets, but whenever I try to ask for a computer's planet, they seem to value them very highly. Could be worth a decent amount of credits or tech to an AI if you want to give it away.
I've been playing GC2 for only a couple of weeks now... In a few ways -- tactical combat being one of them -- MOO2 is still a better game than GC2. Overall though, GC2 is the better game. I'd love for the expansion to include tactical combat. The game just doesn't feel complete without it.
I'm fine with the number of planets. I can hardly manage the number of possible planets now, on the high end. I would like however like a much bigger map, with more dead space, and tighter clusters. To use an example from another game, the current possible maps (no matter what settings I try) all seem to be like a "Pangaea" map in Civ4. All the Civs feel like they are cramped against each other, with no 'natural' borders. In Civ4 one of the best t
Thanks for this. Very interesting.
I can't get rollover info on techs, and since I'm far from memorizing them, that means either vaguely guessing, or alt-tabbing to check a file, or leaving the diplo window to look at the tech tree. This at least you can do. Right click on the tech and you'll get a pop up with some of that tech's effe
I'd love to know that answer to this one too. I'm always afraid to attack without a proper casus belli and DoW first. I don't want my reputation and alignment to take a hit...
Wow! Thanks to all of you, esp. Iztok for answering all of those dumb questions! Have no idea how much that helps me. Was having an impossible time figuring out the economy of this game. Thanks again!
I'd settle for a Pirates! like update. (Haven't tried getting it to run since I upgraded my Win 98 SE box.) Really, MoM was incredible -- top 10 game of all time material, easily.
New to the game here. I love it so far. Just have a few questions and need some advice. (1) I think I understand the basic idea behind planetary improvements. Your factory doesn't supply production but rather supplies the capacity to convert income to production. (Hope I'm right so far.) Now, does a planet's facilities only use the income of the planet itself, or does it draw from a global pool of income? (2
