V1.1 beta 3.015... Gigantic galaxy... 6 races... normal Altarians put an influence base right in the middle of my empire. This is weird because it's how I defeated them last time. I decided not to be passive despite their 120 to 30 ship advantage. I had mass drivers, shields and chaff. I lost the first 5 battles but they were Pyrrhic victories for the AI. After upgrading my fighter design to include ECM along with better guns

I've seen the same thing. When your espionage gets high enough, look at how their planets are laid out. I had a crazy situation one 1.1 beta 3.014 where my neighboring Altarians suddenly became incredibly influential because they build 3 cultural exchange centers on each planet in the area. Punks.
Regarding 1.1 beta 3.014... In a gigantic galaxy with six major opponents, the game made the following errors after 5 hours: --Espionage funding suddenly disappeared --Unresearched parts of the research tree disappeared Probably a bunch of other things also. I played 4 more turns. Alliances showed up after Interstellar Government was done so apparently the game was still aware of the tree. I suspect espionage wa
ah... I missed the second part of #33 that you were responding to. I don't see how you could offer video drivers either... however, since the video card world is split between ATI and nVidia, perhaps links to both companies or just one depending on the card detected. BladeVenom's idea sounds decent. It's not practical for Stardock to provide drivers because they update almost as quickly as Galactic Civilizations 2.

Frogboy, The DirectX at install is implemented after the game itself is installed. Usually a dialog appears, "DirectX9 is required for optimum performance, etc. etc. Would you like to install Directx9 now?" Or some variation of that. The other way is to make it an option in your splash screen if the user clicked "no" at install and the detected version is lower than recommended. Peace
In 1.1b2, I scored 10,280 on a tiny map against two races. Flipped over to check the metaverse and didn't submit... geez... I hate cheaters/exploiters. Ladies and gentleman, whichever category you place yourselves into, THIS IS A GAME OF CONQUEST. Even if you are building and trading, you should still be focused on conquering opponents whether it's cultural or brute force. At least in the Metaverse. Leave the obs

The problem seems to have gone away in the latest update v1.1b3.014
Maybe because I'm updating regularly... I don't see it in the latest v1.1b3.014. As for Mr. $6k Alienware machine, you either have a 30in LCD and a color laser printing press or the luxury of cash. Either way, cool. Overkill but cool. For the next machine, remember that no retail PC company has an original bone left in their bodies. Alienware uses Antec cases. Nothing fascinating about it except for the money they get.
Your circle of friends won't buy it? No problem, trollboy. Just realize that you and your five fingers don't qualify as a "circle of friends." What you're really upset about is that you can pirate the retail version but you can't get the updates. Tough luck.
Since I'm just getting a handle on GC2, I'm not looking for GC3. Upgrade cycles are becoming quite large for the average user. People don't have the time, patience, money or logistical ability to simply buy new equipment for games. Stardock is manufacturing diamonds with every sale. People will keep it because the game is 15 years old and always getting better. Stardock will be there with that kind of record. No "home of the underdogs" for GC2. This has staying power. P.S.: see
Since the entire civilization doesn't flip at once, I wouldn't expect to get the tech until all planets flip. I was thinking that because the freighters are tracked by planet, perhaps the tech can be as well. The planet that flips gives everything that originated from the planet--Trade, research, military. While it's fun to battle, I'm finding it tough to get ready with logistics, weapons, engines and defenses. That stuff takes a LONG time to assem
Because I got the trade goods and not the technology, there's a possibility that the "no tech trading" prevented me from acquiring technology from the cultural conquest but that's just speculation. We won't know unless somebody from Stardock checks it out. I didn't see any regarding this on b2 or b3 change list. This thread will probably get washed away in the sea of newbie confusion.
In a small map(v1.1b2) with two opponents, I decided to take down the Altarians by cultural conquest in the hope that I'd get their military and technology. All I got were a couple of trade goods. It was a complete anti-climax to my master plan. Conquer opponent #1 by culture then turn around and slam opponent #2 with a nice bloodbath. That should be the point to cultural conquest but it isn't. So what happened? Is this a bug? Can we get oppone
Crackhead.
I didn't know the Galactic Guide Book existed. Thanks for the warning. I personally like the Galactic Stock Exchange. Money keeps the AI drugged and at bay.
Yes but their government will complain and/or fight. Make sure your diplomacy skills are high.
Not sure how many gamers are playing this with voice dictation software. I'm probably the only one. Still, this is worth mentioning for future reference: Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords is extremely friendly to DragonDictate which means, by extension, that it is friendly to gamers with disabilities. As a developer, I see it as smart design. You obviously didn't screw around with stuff that didn't call for it. Some games will compl
