I've run into a few fleets, your best bet is to steer clear of them if at all possible. That is, unless you have some bonuses, 2 fully upgraded military mining bases worked for me. Then it's killing time
Glitch
I've noticed this a bunch. Especially noticable on Terran style ships.
I've noticed this too, I think it has something to do with setting up a custom race and then patching the game. At some point I think they changed the number of points you get :/
You can't zoom out far enough on a gigantic map... I see the OP's point, but I think the devs have more important things to do than printouts. Besides, the planets in range for colonization are going to be visible when zoomed all the way out, and the ones that need invading have colours around them on the mini map.
My laptop's LCD has a native res of 1400x1050, and that's the res I'm playing at. None of the drivers, be they ATi or Omega, report the screen res properly - they only report the default VGA out res... My pagefile is 1.5 GB, with RAM totaling 1 GB. I'll get that SmartException thing, now I just have to play until the random event spawns again. Aw, shucks... <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Laugh.gif" border=
It's in the graphics config section afaik. I haven't had the problems you are refering to, but then my machine is more powerful. I worry about your video card tho - I'm surprised that the game can run on 128k of graphics memory. Methinks the unit you want it MB, not kB
Well there are the ships that bring you your tourists (invisible ships I might add!), maybe they booked passage on those. Yes, all 19 million of them
Happened again. Don't know if this post made the main page the first time, so here it is again. Different game, different setup but the same error - crash on a Corvette event. Yeah, you have to have the Universal Translator, but it does work even with races that you haven't (and couldn't) have seen yet. I was hoping you could contact races that weren't even on the map, ie: the 10th race that's left out when you play as a custom civ, but it doesn't work Sure is useful tho <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/
Just for fun I was going through the manual, and I noticed that there are hotkeys to contact the other races (ctrl+0-9). I tried them out and, surprise, I was able to contact everyone. The bug comes in when it's the first turn and you haven't even moved your ships yet - and you can still talk and trade with the AI! I don't know if this is a bug or not, come to think of it. It sure is useful though, you can trade with the other civs for their starti
If I remember correctly the stated chances are 5-10%. That's pretty low, and it depends on how it's calculated. If the game selects 5-10% of the total tiles on a planet, you have a pretty good chance (depending on the planet size and how built up it is) of not hitting anything. If it takes that 5-10% from the built tiles, then we have a bug. For the record I have not had minis destroy anything afaik.
Debug Message: Main Shell terminating normally Oh really? Might want to reboot after this puppy. Good job
I've noticed this too, they seem to have this 'convert the heathens' attitude towards those who are not of the good alignment. Best bet is to beat the crap out of them when they get around to you, and either finish them off or let them go. I've noticed that you only have to beat them once and then give them peace and they should leave you alone, assuming that you aren't allied with someone else that they're going to attack <img src="http://images.sta
I agree w/ Draginol; while it is nice to have multiplayer for those who want it, a 4X game should concentrate on single player. I, personally, don't play multiplayer because of my experiences with other games - none of which were positive. Plus, the way this game is designed it would be a real drag to play, waiting while the other player finished off his ship in the shipyard <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Laugh.gif" border=0 A
9 times out of 10 my game crashes to desktop upon spawning a 'Ranger' or a 'Corvette' event. I'm running the latest beta (.018). Latest drives for everything, I think. The sound driver looks old, but it's the latest I could find. If someone knows of a more recent one please post it! I've also noticed that the video drivers are a couple months out of date - the Omega guy has only recently updated his (the vendor hasn't updated since 2002). I had m
Build a Spin Control Center and then drop some small or tiny hulls with the cheapest weapons you can get into orbit. That'll keep your military rating up there, as long as they don't leave
I kinda like this idea, although I'd add an option in the invasion to wipe the aliens out instead of letting them surrender. Good idea either way, but I'm not sure that StarDock is going to implement it b/c of all the extra micro that would be required.
I've also noticed that the AI can't win an alliance victory even if they're allied with everyone. Apparantly they can only win by conquest and influence.
That's really weird, I've never gotten any minor races in any of my games before I updated to beta 4. Then I started and gigantic map with nine races and I've run into 5 minor races so far; there may be even more in places I haven't been yet!
I've been able to do this with lots of AIs. My last game I had higher tech than everyone else, and when they started a war I asked for surrender, all of their money and all of their planets and they gave them to me. This happened to the Iconians, the Yor, the Arcaceans and the Dregin all withing a few weeks! I do like that they are, in effect, surrendering, but it seems kinda funny for a civ to be handing over their only planet(s)...
Just updated to B4, and I've got the bug too. Odd thing was it didn't pop up until after I had colonized 3-4 planets. Thanks to Moosetek for the governers trick, lots easier than doing it planet by planet
I would prefer the traditional method, although that's not going to stop me from getting the expansion. I also wouldn't mind a download, in place of a CD, but that's pretty hard on the dial-up users. I suppose the question of which to do might come down to this: Are you ready to release the expansion? I mean, if the thing isn't ready by the end of September, then there's no point in releasing it in time for the holidays. In fact, that mi
I've gotten entire races (on cakewalk) just for a peace treaty
I've been playing against the simplest AIs, just to get a feel for the game. I've found that if you're sufficiently ahead, you can ask for ALL of their planets. I ended up doing this to the Dregin, Iconians and the Yor all within a couple of turns. You'd think there would be a rule that the AI would keep at least one plaet
I don't think you'd have to demolish first. AFAIK you can upgrade any building to any other building.
