If you want to play any games, any at all, aside from GCII stay away from Intel graphics! What kind of games are you planning on playing? Just GCII? Or are you planning on trying more demanding games like UT2007?
Glitch
I like the idea, but I don't know that it's possible. You are, of course, welcome to try!
I've always been surprised at what can be made to run under the various emulators/APIs (Wine is not an emulator). If people can get Splinter Cell 3, with StarForce running with Wine, I think GCII should work too Of course, I don't know what the activation process looks at so there's no way to tell. I'd try it for you, but I'm a little busy this week. @Cari: My games are on a drive
Try looking at the Wine or Cedega games lists. Also, you could try VMWare... Looks like Cedega does support it, but it might not run well. Hmm... and I can't find the games lists for Wine. Best bet would be to try the free things first (Wine then VMWare) and if those don't work try Cedega.
One could argue that having the game on CD prevents you from losing everything should StarDock close up shop and disappear but, to be honest, you wouldn't be losing much And it's not like SD is going to go out of business any time soon. Either way is fine, it just depends on wether or not you want a CD.
Might also have something to do with the old version of the game. You really should update to 1.2
By not linking to your desktop Matt... Post the images on a filehosting service and link to that.
He's looking for a way to destory a world - without troopships. That's not possible as of now, but I think it's planned for the expansion. Sorry.
There's no tool that I know of, and opening the file in Notepad doesn't yield anything usable either. You might try opening it in a hex editor, but there's no guarantee.
$GalCiv2/data/$language/RaceConfig.xml Don't edit it in place if you play in the Multiverse tho, it will flag your games as cheating. Best bet is to copy the file(s) you've changed into a mod folder in the mods directory. See here: https://www.galciv2.com/mods/gc2modsdoc.htm
My god, do any of you whiners check the wiki site?! To enable this kind of thing you need to enable cheats and then hit ctl+shift+z Go here: https://www.galciv.wikia.com/wiki/Hot_Seat_Game
That's weird, and too bad. Oh well, we'll just have to hope they notice...
Isn't there a button to break alliances where the trade embargo button is for the minor races?
I've just been trying to up the max number of ability points a race has but I can't seem to get it to go over 10. The line
CustomizationPoints 13 CustomizationPoints
only give the race 10 points as far as I can tell. Is this something other people have tried? Has anyone had any success with this?
There are more recent Omega drivers available, and GCII detects them just fine. Make sure you really do have the most recent, and make sure it's a clean install too (no older drivers left). I've also run into this bug (or at least a very similar one) when a Precursor ship event happens. It seem like sometimes the game can't find the appropriate ship class to create a ship, so it dumps you to the desktop.
Nope, straight up notepad. That's what just about everyone is using since the devs haven't released a mod kit w/ tools. Nor do I expect them to, they've got better things to do. Also the ability bonus limit is going to change to 6
Correct, as of yet there is no way to trade whole fleets. You just have to break them up and trade the individual ships.
I don't know if the devs are still reading this thread, but I've noticed an error in the docs. When talking about modding Ability Bonuses it says that the maximum number of options is six. I've updated my game to 1.20.035, and the max I can get the game to display is four. Is this an error in the docs, or has the code just not changed to reflect them (the docs)? Edit: Emailing CariElf too.
True enough, but they could at least give us a method a sorting the components (price, size, damage/defence)...
But he wants the AI not to build it at all. The tech thing sounds like the best option to me.
I've noticed this too, although my machine doesn't get that hot. Maybe you need to check your cooling fans?
#3 is correct. Makes sense if you think about it. If it added tiles to every planet, especially those you capture, you would end up with an infinite upper limit.
Edit: Sorry, wrong thread. Great idea, going to be bloody hard tho
As to the max pop thing, have you tried building way too many farms on a planet? Planets have their own cap - you would not be able to get the pop to grow to 100B on a class 4 planet, even if you could build enough farms. Maybe that's what that number means... For your second point, you do realise that you can change existing structures into other ones right? Just build your planet according to the way it is now, and change it afterwards if you need to. I agree this would be a use
