My only beef with the Dread Lord event is that they will only speak to you when they want to.

Question: [B]When is it a memory leak; what size is too large for memory usage?[/B] My game used to run using 800-900 MB of memory. As of the 4C update, it now runs as much as 1,589 MB (1.6 GB) - during a game of immense size. My turns take a few seconds, although I do end up with video issues at this size with 'explosions' being nothing but a white square.

Oddly enough, you can have custom races appear within the limitations of the existing races. As an example, I have been saving slight modifications to the Terran and Yor races as I tweek the game. While not entirely custom, they appeared as opponents when I randomized who I was facing.

I have noticed that as the game progresses, memory issues affect the jewelery and the textures. IN one example - all of the textures for the jewelery disappeared, leaving lots of hard point indicators flying in empty space.

Hi All - Again - if this is a repeated post, my apologies. I tend to start more games than I finish or conclude. This gives me a chance to understand the variables, which alien tech to trade for, and of course to design new ships. When I start a new game, and as tech develops, old ship designs show up as being available. Nice feature from the original game. There are certainly times and locations where a fulled-loaded starbase is an asset. In most cases though, they're expensive targets later in the game. Early on to mid game, they are a must - especially within your own empire for trade, production and research bonus's. I am hesitant to use military bases, except to bolster the defense of my larger systems. My thoughts go towards a better offenses and defenses. I have to admit - the Creativity factor has altered how I play a game. As an example - with creativity, racing to the end of one tech branch is relatively easy if the steps are large. Selecting to develop Democracy, 40 turns, was achieved in 9 turns. Federation selected at 90 turns, completed in 14. Selecting the smaller steps and branches of the tech tree did not see the same benefits. 9 turns = 9 turns etc. Only these lower steps creativity had little noticable effect.

Hi All - I'd like to see perhaps three new elements: 1a.) A stationary observation post. It would not affect influence, and might only have defensive systems. I'm actually enjoying the new economics & support requrements. 1.) Generally, I try to develop in stages matching the same level industrial advance to one with trade. Each world with 2 industrial advances and 2 financial. Do this slowly, as a very high industry improvement will actually stagnate your growth as it takes forever to build. This also manages your expenses for maintenance. 2.) Trade is a DO OR DIE elmenent. I trade techs, even at a loss to get them early. Shoo

Thanks for pointing out the threads - I avoided the pirates issue because I have not had problems with them (except 1x). I'll read up on that immediately. In a funny way - I like the 'technology burst', except that the current AI's don't capitalize on it. Maybe the minor races find a hidden stash of Dredd technology... So far, I've limited Vista to running client (web) demos, and email. kept my dev tools on an XP desktop. However.... Other than navigating to where I want a file to be stored (Vista's design is NOT that intuitive), I am beginning to like it.
