Make it a cheat code if it really must be in, disable it for Metaverse games.

edit: okay I see a bunch of people already pointed this out... I'm going to read other posts before replying in the future... oh well I'll leave my response below anyways.
One feature that I've concluded we should put in is to let people set the pacing of research any time they want within game. In a single player game, if I want techs to come faster, I should be able to do that. It's not cheating as it affects all players equally. [/qu
My girlfriend doesn't have internet, so when I lent her my Spore CD she couldn't use it because it had to be activated. Now I have to find a crack just so I can use my legitimate game at her house.
Honestly I hate pirating software, but developers these days constantly release buggy, unfinished games that often don't work or run poorly on certain systems. I'll almost always pirate a game before I buy it just to make sure it's going to work. Even then I still get screwed; my pirated version of Spore never crashed once but the legit version crashes every few hours.
Thanks for the explanation.Hmm. I can see population pushing Morale down. But I would think that that would be mitigated by the overall environment. That is, yeah, the planet has a huge number of people on it, but if the planet is a PQ 30 (practically a Garden of Eden), with lots of space to spread out over, it wouldn't be like living in a sardine can. Furthermore, I would think that if you hit your population ceiling where people aren't allowed to have as many children as they like,
I will say in terms of time to money spent ratio, WoW is far and away the best value entertainment. I saved so much money when I was playing WoW just because I wasn't spending money on movies, alcohol or going out.
The reason WoW is so addictive is because once you've invested a certain amount of time into it you feel compelled to keep playing so that the time and money you've already sunk into it doesn't feel wasted. It's a part of the human psyche which has been exploited by Casinos for decades, just with Casinos it's obviously a lot more about money than time. Like gambling though if you set yourself a limit, you can enjoy it responsibly. With WoW I think the best limit is: "I'm
A game doesn't need multiplayer to have longevity, I think the reason why people think that is because it's the COMMUNITY that gives a game such longevity - and it's much easier for multiplayer games, obviously due to their nature, to build up such a community. A community gives people a reason to keep playing, because all of us love to share our experience and compare our games and abilities. Why is it that a game like Donkey Kong, a single player arcade game that's over 20 years
Actually the whiners in the forums are a very vocal minority of hardcore gamers, the majority of which are busy actually PLAYING the game and if they do post it's often constructive and not inflammatory, with the best interests of the game at heart. In the end if a game is not balanced and the developers don't show an interest in making it so then most of the competitive gamers will just leave for another game instead of whining about it, again it's a very small percentage that will activel
I like the patch myself, sure there's a bit of imbalance but I like the tougher AI settings and the faster game options. The black market is still better than before, it fixes the exploits at least - they just need to jack up the price of metal and crystal a bit more and it will be fine.
Stardock has proven that making something easy to steal doesn't equate to an incredible increase in piracy. They have proven in my case that making it more convenient to buy than steal means a gained sale, even if stealing was easy and far cheaper.
I think that's a really good point, the fact is for someone earning a steady income who isn't tied down with a family, 40-50 bucks isn't all that much to spend - it's a couple of rounds of drinks really and if you're sitting at
Yeah after reading the reviews I grabbed sins and haven't regretted it, it's nowhere near as good as galactic Civ, but it's a nice little game and has a lot of potential, they just need to tweak the balance a bit and improve the pacing in multi player.
I thought some of the commentary on Stardock was interesting. In particular, the supposition that Stardock gamers are a different breed and that the distribution model that works for Stardock would not work with FPS gamers.
I thought that argument was a load of BS myself. I play FPS and RPGs as well as RTS and TBS, the reason I've bought Stardock's products is a combination of them having great games, having great support for those games and being anti-copy protection. <
I had similar issues with SDC at first, I just grabbed the game via bit torrent and used the CD keys I got in the email. Having said that I've had no problem updating with SDC and will surely purchase Sins of a Solar empire this way if I like the demo.
I think the reasons for not giving the AI diplomatic victory are as follows: When a human player wins in a Diplomatic Victory I think story-wise it's still presumed that the universe continues after the game is finished with all the civilizations going about their merry way and living in harmony with each other. So conversely even if the AI "wins" a diplomatic victory everyone else including the human player should have the freedom to keep going about their business without the uni
Hi guys, I was just wondering if anyone knew whether research bonuses from either mining Starbases or ability picks are counted towards research focused from factories, or whether it's just applied to the research generated from labs. In my current game all my research is coming from factories and focus, but there's two research resources nearby and I'm just wondering whether it's worth it to build them up. Also, in the same game, I've got 3 morale resources. Is it worth
Nice write up. I'm tagging this for future reference.
Actually, just to be nit-picky, I would say that Myst has the clicky-puzzle-type-game genre dominated about as well as StarCraft has the RTS genre.
I dunno most people I've spoken to about that genre never mention Myst, it's all about the old school Lucas Arts games. Sam and Max, Day of the Tentacle, Monke
The game is definitely easier with tech trading on, however tech trading is really, really, really boring and I usually turn it off for that reason. What really irks me about tech trading is in order to get the most out of it you have to trade each tech individually. For example you won't get nearly as much cash for trading 10 techs as a package as you would for trading each tech 1 by 1. And because there's no way of sorting techs by value or any other means except alphabetical yo
Obviously if you're not into Multiplayer RTS games then you won't enjoy Starcraft for much more than the time it takes to finish the campaign, and you'll probably prefer other games. However, while one can't compare Starcraft to non-RTS games directly I think it's important that Starcraft has dominated its genre far more than any game ever created, it's for that reason that I would find it hard to disagree that SC is the best game ever made. Starcraft is by far the best m
Surely the correct answer should be "when it's done", that means if it's not ready then it's not ready whether that's December, January, February is irrelevant. Let's not turn Stardock into one of those companies that releases buggy, unfinished games just to meet deadlines. Besides it's no loss to the players if it doesn't come out until next year, we can still play the beta. Stardock may lose money in the short term by waiting but one only needs to look at the success of compa
Wow I can't believe someone dug this thread up. Just so you guys I was a noob when I wrote this strat and you should check out the one turn per ship strat I wrote for a better starting strat. like others have said you don't really get enough planets peace
I tried it the way I normally play and it didn't make a lick of difference. But I've heard if you build pure offensive ships it's quite good. That said, it only works when you attack first, so if you take out an enemy fleet and there's other enemy fleets around then you're screwed becasue your ships won't have any defence and will get owned by the computer fleets.
MMOs are ingeniously designed to exploit a weakness in the human psyche. Everyone that plays them gets addicted to some degree. This is somewhat true for all games, however other games actually have an ending. Without closure there's nothing to stop people from playing, just an endless supply of goals. The worst thing about MMOs is the more you play, the more addicted you become so the more you play. Eventually in game acheivements mean more than real life acheivements, and the fr
It would be cool if you could put more than 1 construction module on a constructor - then use those multiple modules to get multiple SB upgrades with 1 constructor. Personally though I'd prefer it if upgrading a starbase was like mining asteroids. IE it didn't consume the constructor, just took time to upgrade. That way you wouldn't have to build 100s of constructors every time you wanted to make a starbase.
