Sounds like a great way to make small ships pointless!
Kingmaker
How exactly does one make an offering system when surrendering you takes you out of the game. I can't imagine a system that works better than the current one, unless they just adopted a fight to the last man system.
I think carriers are pointless until tactical combat is implemented.
oh the infamous realism arguement. Which applies in a game where there is FTL flight. Muliple humanoid races, and shitloads of planets to live on. how about this, if components don't get larger, huge ships could make themselves immune to 1000's of small ships pretty freaking easily. Why cant they divide their firepower, modern ships can.
Ummm a poll is meaningless without an answer of WTF will carriers do exactly?
Jonathan the reason you are in the tiny minority is that most people don't micro management, frankly I think they should kill micro management as well, it would make it so I could make the jump to suicidal without wasting my time doing exactly what you do. Multiplayer would vastly extend the life span of this game. People just drool over tactical combat.
Your right, evil shouldn't have any disadvantage in the UP, they should also get no diplomacy penalty. I mean they really need to balance all the advantages the good ethic choices give you on ethical decisions right?
Yah JubJub they should have an evolution tech that turns you into a forum troll.
Because that is their freaking racial advantage.
Gamewise it was pointless. The idea is though that all those people got to survive. In Galciv when you conquer people you exterminate a large percentage of them, if I was a leader and I realized that I was about to get my ass kicked I would surrender to another country too, and not neccesarily my ally. I want to surrender to somebody who can protect me, and if I'm already losing the damn war why the hell would I surrender to somebody who couldn't protect me when the war started?
It's a pipe dream guys, tactical combat isn't going to be in gal civ 2. For gal civ 2, components have to be scaled otherwise smaller ships would be useless pretty much instantly when the enemy went up a size.
We expect creativity in our biology like we expect creativity in our physics. Within the bounds of what is known, exploring the limits of what is not. Yah and if you actually read what I posted in context you would realise I was responding to all the people who say that species should all be bi-pedal and similar to humans. <br
That's the worst idea ever, hey, lets have multiplayer where the experienced person has a massive insermountable advantage.
This is what happens when you have a poll without being able to rank your choices. My guess is a lot of diplomacy and political voters would take multiplayer as a second choice?
Guys they are not going to make a game that is incredibly deep strategically, and incredibly deep tactically, it simply doesn't happen. ROME TW was pretty simple above the tactical level, and was crippled by an AI that simply sucked at tactical fights. You think Stardock has the resources to make a game where you can ignore 50% of it and it will still be fun? ROME TW was a joke if you auto resolved.
Please for the love of god post in a readable paragraph format. I think Gal Civ 3 is going to look a lot morel like total war:space. A game can't have nearly as much strategic focus if you have to play out every single battle. So tactical is either going to have to play second fiddle to strategic, or dominate it... or possibly be like Moo with it's extremly simple mechanics, move, shoot, move, shoot.
*Sigh* not including any form of planetary bombardment was a active and intelligent decision by the designers. This includes carriers. You want to trash an economy with little losses? Send in a transport with only 500 people and use orbital bombardment, you probably wont take the planet but you will kill billions and leave it undamaged, for when you drop your transport with traditional attack and take it.
It would be cool to have ships auto named, but in terms of carriers.... What I would love is if the various Jewelry and graphics were only minimally connected to the actual function of the weapons. Why cant I have a phaser VII that looks like a phaser II? Why can't I pick the graphical representation of the engines? As for carriers. Why not have the ability to have generic "fighter" Jewelry that escorts your carrier, basically within the battle widow they fly around, but in
You get the tech bonus for that planet, I often hold off on my conquests early game to let the computer build it's various capitals, which come pretty early anyway.
I would just like to point out that flagships in real life don't give some sort of weird bonus to all craft surrounding them, you can take the best and the brightest aproach if you want... simply rename your most experienced bad ass ship "flagship" I like heroes in warcraft 3 as well, but Galciv is a very different game.
3 hours to "return realism" 2 months to return balance.
I for one am glad gal civ is missing a Unforgiveable, utterly unacceptable, horrifying thing. Who would want one of those in the game? Oh, thats not what you mean.
So I have made the jump from crippling to Masochistic... and I need some advice, Basically I am getting my ass handed to me on a pretty regulas basis. Crippling I can deal with no problem (this is all 1.11 by the way I don't want to deal with metaverse cames not being counted) Anyone who has made this switch got any advice? I'm having a brutal time of it here, the enemy AI's always seem to have more techs, and more ships.
You definetly have a point Dreadarchon, I guess I just wanted my killer space Teddy Bears. As for the soldiering thing, I find at the higher levels if I have lost the space war I'm sure not going to survive through the ground war.
Allowing negatives leads to some serious abuses that are really really difficult to control. Lets see I take a -10 to soldiering, -50 to defence (which I wont use,) +50 to attack (got to make up for that crappy defence) -10 to militarcy contruction. Use the points I got from the -20 to get the quick soldering techs that I need to counter. Hell take a -influence factor and never use it, so many ways to abuse in a game like this.
