I as having similar problems late last year. There is a good chance that it is the Power unit as Kryo suggests. The reason that the PSU is so often the problem these days is that we keep adding more & more extra drives etc and they all eat power so it is using more than the original spec called for. So do not just replace it, upgrade it too. As he also said it could be another hardware issue.

Uh, last time I looked you could buy ships already. But I do like the idea of independant corperations etc, just what to do with them ?
As I understand the trade bonus for space stations only applies while the frieghter is within its influence, so a slower frieghter would spend more time within such influence zones, so it should be more profitable IF you have such bases.
I recently played a game where the Thalians colonized a huge section of the galaxy and were looking quite dominant in some ways. The AI went bonkers tho', they maxed out shield tech really early but little else. They had dozens of planets yet only about 10% of them had a ship to defend them but the ships had 40-60 shield defence. How is this relevant? Well despite me having dozens of ships to their handfull the military strength calc showed them as superior. When i noticed this I quickly dum
Please dont get me wrong. I was not suggesting getting the mine was bad, just that you need to be careful with it if you get it early.
Exactly so defences on ships is better financial sense. I am currently late game with ships 40% weapons 60% defence ratio and I hardly ever loose a ship against some prety nasty enemies.
I recently blew a game on masochist level. I found a planet with a precursor mine (7xbonus) and 2 precusor workshops (3x bonus). Whooohooo I thought, build on those. I blew my entire economy. Ended up not being able to research or build sqwat - game over- get drunk- fall asleep- wake up in a pool of drool. On the other hand... In my current game I took a similar planet off the Torians, who had, sadly for them been the least powerful etc race of all. Now why were they the wor
Oh come on... If you have little or no military you are just asking to be attacked and on masochist level the AI can eat you up quick unless you have a few good fleets and that wont be easy when the AI has such huge bonuses. Better to act bigger than you are with the spin control centre with good no engine ships in orbit. Play for time to get decent weapons, hulls engines miniturization & logistics and defences plus with a bit of shrewed play maybe some allies. Then go on t
I was never able to get BoTF to work on xp. I instaled another drive with win98 to run that, Star wars rebellion and Moo2. I think we will see a LOT of this happen in the mod community given time. Just be patient
Yeah, thinking about it Stars was very advanced for its day so far as game play, tech trees etc were concerned. Pats graphics but that is really just eye candy anyway. Pity Stars Supernova Genesis never made it. It looks as if it would have been great http://pc.gamezone.com/gamesell/p14382.htm
I agree, it has saved my butt quite a few times, as have the evil weapons and good defences but do not make a habit of relying on them. They are a stop gap at best as they are expensive in comparison to more advanced techs which will fit the same firepower in a hull at about 60% of the ship cost. Build some to get you by, research whatever else you urgently need then move on along the tech tree.
I am playing the latest beta and it occoured to me how upset those guys who just cram their ships full of weapons and engines but no defences are gonna be come their 1st fleet action in 1.2. Wish I could see their faces. well they where warned weeks ago
Did you guys know that if you have some decent diplomacy and build the first combat vessel, even if it is only 1 attack, that gives you huge leverage as you are way out in front in the military graph. You can ask any race you have met for a tech and 9 times out of 10 they will give it willingly, even miniturization or logistic techs. Dont bother asking twice tho. As for tons of crappy ships, well that works fine on lower levels but on masochist, you need decent ships and a spin c
Big assault ships is the way I go ,3k or 4 k preferably per ship in fleets. chances are you will take the planet and end up with a heathy (2k +) population that will grow quick. If you do happen to end up with just a million or so survivors it it often useful to land one of the transports for a few turns while they get on their feet.
I think any multi player game of Galciv2 would be a disaster. Kiddie you are playing in Nebraska or wherevere will reaslise 20 minutes into the game that you have an edge and dissconnect. Waste of friggin time.
That is what I like about stardock. They listen and give answers. All hail stardock
what are the chances? i went into the game right after seeing this post and right away I got this event (or at least one with this graphic) It was about the drengies being nicer but they were still evil after the event oddly
The NRA has a solution to the barking dogs problem! Yeah good idea
wish I could vote to kill the Terran alliance... Not that I hate the humans.. I just hate the look of their racial leader, Face like a salesperson who'd do anything to sell you their product and exploit you in any way they can LOL That is a graphic representation of their diplomacy bonus <img src="http://images.stardock.com/g
If the Ai is so bad...why cheat?
Seems a lot of people are already . I had not thought about it till my current game.(masochist -large) I thought I was doing well pumping out a fast colony ship every 2 turns, 10 colonies in the bag but I seem surrounded. So I thought I would look up how the others were doing...a few 10-15s but whoha the Altarians have 40 ! WTF
My main problem at the moment is the bloody dogs across the street barking like a stuck record. Hard to concerntrate on the game. Do you think something can be done in 1.3?
You can never find a piece of string when you need one and now we have lots....or not as they aint found
the "wrong" type of defence achieves a square root of its proper defencive value. Interestingly as someone pointed out the square root of 1 is 1. I think you must always play it by ear. Look at what your enemies are using and research and build appropriatly praying that the all use the same stuff hehe.
I cannot help feeling that in the future the OP will watch a sci fi movie on tv or read a good book and feel the itch to play again. What else is there that compares?
